Descartes did not break his concentration on the two flickering figures. He kept his hands raised, his unfathomable eyes fixed on the immediate space before him.
"I...used to be a caretaker of a Lineage of Provenance Lifeforms," Descartes replied.
"I saw firsthand how Those Who Remain could be when such beings ever sent a wisp of their aura down into the lower realities. It is a crushing, absolute weight."
The old philosopher lowered his hands slightly as the flickering of the two students finally stabilized.
"I know how impossible a rebellion is. I was only a caretaker. But the lowliest things always stand the chance of being the strongest. Erwin here was only a peasant, and look at him now. He drew me the most as his master was also proficient in paradox. Under my guidance, I actually plan to have them become extremely sharp swords of paradox. We will use them to cut across much of what is coming with me."
...!
Noah looked at Descartes silently. He gauged the words.
A caretaker raising swords. It was an act of extreme, calculated defiance. He looked at the two paradoxes recovering on the rusted ground. They were biological weapons being forged in real time!
Noah nodded.
"Existence is vast, and we all have our moving parts," Noah said calmly. "Your words inadvertently allowed me to arrive at an epiphany earlier. Existence is give and take. Do you want anything from me?"
...!
Descartes fell entirely silent. He looked at the ruined sky of the Dimensional Cabin. He calculated the weight of his own request against the capability of THE True Human Emperor.
He eventually lowered his gaze.
"Could you bring me a corpse of a Provenance Lifeform in the next few days, months, or years?" Descartes asked quietly. "I have use for it, but I know the ask is a heavy one."
BOOM!
The request struck the air with massive conceptual weight!
Why would a philosopher want the corpse of a Sovereign?
It was a highly logical request, even if the procurement of such an item was statistically impossible for nearly any other being.
"A few days will likely be sufficient," Noah replied, his tone perfectly even. "Are you heading up or down?"
He asked Descartes if they would move toward the front or the back of THE Dimensional Provenance Train.
"We will go down," Descartes answered smoothly. "Our power can paradoxically rise whether we go up or down. But down is a bit more manageable. It was the reason why we came down into this Dimensional Cabin in the first place."
Noah nodded.
"Then I will find you again to give it to you," Noah stated. "It seems we must rush out of here before any dogs start sniffing."
...!
Descartes nodded calmly. He stepped back, allowing his two disciples to stand.
Noah looked at THE Primordial Paradox. He extended his glowing blue-gold hand.
The boisterous anomaly stepped forward and met the gesture, and the physical collision of their palms occurred.
Noah analyzed the kinetic transfer. It was a localized human greeting. Previously, he had felt the weight of camaraderie and shared battle during this gesture. Now, he observed the collision of atoms and the social programming of a primate species. It felt entirely different..but as a human, he still felt good having something that could be called friendship!
THE Primordial Paradox seemed to have also sensed this change as he smiled lightly.
Noah lowered his hand and turned his endlessly blue eyes toward Erwin.
"You are unique, even with our past history," Noah said to THE Living Paradox. "Information is paramount in existence, and you are THE Information Paradox. You have the potential to be grand. That is only if you make the right moves. Good luck."
Erwin nodded slowly, his eyes wide as he looked at the terrifying, blurring figure of the True Human Emperor.
Noah did not wait for a response.
He turned his back on the three of them and began to float upward, moving toward the distant, shattered doorway in the sky that led out of THE Serenaros Dimension, towards the forward sections of THE Dimensional Provenance Train!
He looked down at the far corner of the ruined blood-sea. Mahishasura was still kneeling on a floating chunk of rusted metal, bleeding and utterly subdued.
He would be leaving Mahishasura as a biological sensor. This Descendant would remain behind as a tool just to see what arrives here!
Noah reached the upper boundaries of the sky. He did not take an army with him as he took only the massive, hovering Dream Construct of THE Sundered Scion that floated obediently behind his shoulder.
He pushed through the torn fabric of the sky and stepped out into the crushing dark.
---
<Vasiliou Elseworld>
Across the continuum, in a hidden Warren where THE Argent Loom barely reached, his other body was arriving somewhere far more interesting.
The storm of ancient golden light released them.
Noah’s feet settled onto a road of fused white gold, and he looked up, and he began to see wonder.
A city climbed the sky in front of him.
It rose in concentric tiers from a wide golden plain, seven ringed levels stacked one atop the other against the face of a white prominence, each tier walled, each wall gated, each gate offset from the one below it so that no straight line ran from the ground to the summit.
Towers stood along the ring-walls in unhurried intervals.
At the crown of the highest tier, a fortress of massive drum towers and long halls sat heavy and red-gold in the light, its roofs steep, its windows tall and dark, a seat built by beings who understood that the appearance of patience was itself a weapon.
And behind the city, a mountain floated.
It hung in the sky with no chain and no foundation, a golden mountain the size of an Observable Existence!
Power poured off its slopes in slow, continuous falls of stellar blue-gold essence, sheets of it descending for miles before thinning into the air, feeding the plain, feeding the city, feeding the light itself.
The pressure of it reached across the whole valley and pressed gently and endlessly on everything below.
Noah processed the architecture with detached precision.
The city was a fortress, and that was the first anomaly. A Provenance Lifeform generated its own standing and owed nothing to siege or scarcity.
A civilization of such beings did not need ringed walls and offset gates. Walls, for them, were either memory or message.
Either this lineage had once been besieged badly enough to build in stone what they no longer trusted to sovereignty, or the entire city was a statement aimed outward at visitors, a sentence written in fortifications.
It was...showy.
The second anomaly was the count.
His perception swept the tiers, and lifeforms answered it by the thousands.
Thousands.
Signatures burned across every level of the city, moving along the ring-roads, gathered in the courtyards, seated in the long halls, and each one of them was a one with a Provenance!
Not soldiers drawing on a master’s power.
Every single signature generated itself, a self-sustaining sun in miniature, and there were thousands of them arranged in tiers up a mountainside.
He had met three Provenance Lifeforms in his entire existence. Thalia. Rosalia. The scraps of a voice within THE Aurate Collar.
He had reasoned from that scarcity that the species was small in number!
He revised the model without sentiment.
A voice arrived directly inside his mind at this time!
’Welcome to Vasileia, my Provenance. The Elsecity of my lineage. Every Provenance Lifeform of the Vasiliou line that still exists is somewhere on those tiers right now, and some of them are about to have very strong opinions about you.’
She stood beside him, her hand finding his, and the mental message continued with an edge of dry affection.
’I know how you can be. A bit hard headed. More than a bit tyrannical. You look at a room full of ancient beings and you begin thinking which of them to offend first. So let me take the lead here, just at the start. You defend your women, I know. But I can defend myself. And I can also defend you.’
...!
