Chapter 5675: Vasiliou! I

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Noah turned his endlessly blue eyes from the city to the woman holding his hand.

Every measurement he held of Thalia Vasiliou had been taken during a catastrophe. There was the day she fell out of a white pool, bleeding on his grass.

There was the hour her edges flickered, causality collecting its toll. There was the moment she wept because he did not remember her.

All of his data came from her worst hours.

Here, she was home, and whole, and merged!

So he activated THE Protagonist’s Omniscient Regard. For the first time since the pool, her existence answered him.

Thalia Vasiliou

VERITAS: 99

PROVENANCE: 99

POTENTIA: 99

PONDUS: 99

(Current values are weakened. The toll of movement across Dimensions and Time continues to suppress the True standing of this existence.)

He read the panel once. Ninety-nine, four times, and beneath the columns a parenthesis stating that the numbers were a floor.

The woman whose hand sat warm in his stood thirty points above him on every axis while actively suppressed. Her true standing lived somewhere he had not yet learned to measure!

He had gotten himself a powerful woman!

He thought of THE TRANSFINITE VERSE and THE INEFFABLE VERSE when he looked at these numbers.

What was one hundred? Was one hundred where the shore ended and the Verse simply began? Did an existence at one hundred stop touching THE INEFFABLE and start standing inside it? Was the woman beside him one point of suppression away from a different order of reality?

He did not know!

Rosalia turned around.

Her unreadable eyes went to their joined hands, to her daughter’s fingers laced through the fingers of a supposed First Tier vessel, and she shook her head once, slowly.

Mothers had performed this motion for as long as daughters had chosen someone they did not approve of. Rosalia performed it too! Then she waved her imperial hand.

WAA!

The road was gone soon after. The three of them became streaks of light, and Noah observed their trajectory with mild interest, because the streaks did not bend toward the climbing tiers of Vasileia or the red-gold fortress at its crown.

They arced past the entire city, toward the mountain behind it.

They stood on bare dark stone at the mountain’s foot. Above them, the falls of essence descended without sound.

Ahead, spanning the base of the mountain from end to end, a boundary of solid golden light rose out of the ground in a single sheer curtain, taller than the city’s highest tower, its surface moving with slow internal currents that had not stopped moving since before the rulings were weighed.

Stellar gold trees grew across the approach in quiet groves. Their canopies burned softly with the essence the mountain shed, and the light came down through the branches and lay on the stone in slow-moving patches.

Among the trees, spaced in silent intervals before the boundary, Provenance Lifeforms floated like statues.

There were five of them. There did not need to be more!

Each one hung motionless above the ground, facing outward. Long shining red hair, loose past the shoulders. Armaments of white gold, plate and pauldron and long-hafted glaives, worked plain, without one ornament.

Beneath the armor their bodies burned, a continuous quiet fire of stellar gold Provenance rising off their skin, so that each guard stood inside a low corona of their own generation!

None of them moved. None of them looked at the arrivals. Their eyes remained ahead, on nothing, on everything.

Beside him, the warmth left Thalia’s presence.

"Mother." Her voice was level. "Why are we at the Provenance Vasiliou Elsemountain? Father and the others should be gathered in the Provenance Tower. That is where the Lineage receives."

Rosalia did not even turn around.

"Very few Provenance Lifeforms can enter the Vasiliou Elsemountain," Thalia continued, and her grip on his hand tightened by a measurable degree. "Even of our own lineage. The boundary admits extremely high Dimensionality, or a unique Provenance, and nothing else. It does not care for names. It does not care for blood."

She took one step forward.

"Are you trying to embarrass us, Mother?"

Rosalia turned then, without hurry. Her gaze passed over her daughter and settled on Noah.

"The least he can do," Rosalia said, "is be exceptional enough to enter a mountain."

HUUM!

"If he cannot do even this, then you have already chosen wrong, and it is better that everyone learns it at the door instead of in the hall. I told your Father and the Vasiliou Provenance Elders that I would bring you here. So everyone has gathered here."

She gestured at the boundary. A small motion, almost gracious.

"I sure do hope this will not be the last place your chosen is able to step into. It is only passing through a barrier and entering a mountain. A simple task, surely, for someone who is supposedly a grander choice than an Immense One. Right?"

...!

Noah listened to all of it with perfect calm.

Rosalia had moved the entire gathering from the Tower to the Elsemountain after her daughter defied her.

A mother, outsourcing her judgment to a mountain!

The theatrics did not interest him.

There was a preschool office, decades ago, on a small blue world that no longer existed in its original form, and he had stood in its corner. A teacher had slid a pamphlet across a desk. A tired woman who worked night shifts closed her hand around a small boy’s hand and said he was fine, and that she would take care of him, and walked him out into the parking lot sunlight.

Noah had watched the stakes on that cheap desk, and they were higher than anything in this valley, because the woman defending the boy had nothing else, and the beings gathered in this mountain had everything and were frightened anyway.

Ceremony was the tax long-lived beings paid one another to avoid saying plain things plainly. He had stopped paying it when he stopped keeping his worth in other people’s accounts. His worth resided in two hundred Decillion Provenance Telos Quarks, and every one of them was presently calm!

What he cared about stood on the other side of the light.

The Elders of an entire Vasiliou Lineage gathered ahead of him, behind a boundary that filtered existence by depth and uniqueness.

Somewhere past it were beings who remembered Ages the Records had forgotten, and the answer to the question he had carried since a matriarch first sneered at his so called First Tier.

What were the sovereign and the architect to each other, truly? Livestock did not receive favors. Rivals did not get harvested. The beings who had lived the answer were waiting inside a mountain to look down at him!

Noah looked at the slow golden currents of the boundary. He was not worried and he was not offended. He was curious!

...!
