Chapter 5827: Legacy’s Son!

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The Plain of Accord lay under a deep fresh fall of snow, and in its center, the snow was grey.

Noah came down onto the Firmament’s broad shoulder with Ling at his side and the Thinker’s great kneeling shape descending behind them. Golden clouds still hung in their ring above the Plain, every throne on them vacant, snow gathering on the seats.

And at the Plain’s center lay Poona.

What was left of her filled a hollow in the snow as wide as a village. The vast gleaming slime of every color that had sat on Moriarty’s table eating his pastries had been torn open, long ragged rips running through her from edge to edge, and along every one of them, crimson and violet and gold and blue had gone to grey, as though someone had dragged claws through a painting and taken the paint with them. Her one enormous eye was dimmed to the color of old ice and cracked straight down its middle.

The Fiend had taken his time over killing her!

Many had already gathered. Moriarty stood at the edge of the hollow with his cracked spectacles in one tentacle, green still bleeding from his seams, the Legacy’s Immense Ones around him. Beyond them, in widening rings, stood Progeny and Provenance Lifeforms from every mountain, Keepers in their simple robes, Achilles with Rose wrapped in his cloak and the frost on his shoulders staying frozen, and hundreds more Noah did not know, all looking at the grey thing at the center of everything.

Behind him, the Thinker set his great knees down at the edge of the Plain and bowed his head. The last time he had truly left his mountain was a long time ago. He had left it now, for this.

And in the periphery, the auras of other Immense Ones watched with heavy eyes. A few of them turned toward Noah as he came down, and a few of them were hard!

Then a voice from somewhere in the skies.

"Was he not their focus?"

Another voice. |"The Fiend and others walked into the old man’s mountain for him. Poona was merely collateral for their plans."|

...!

Noah heard every word calmly.

He walked to the edge of the hollow, passing close by Moriarty, and looked down at Poona. She had saved him once before. He felt it, sharp and sentimental!

With the Gold Without Pupils, he looked at her across every branch his eyes could follow, every way the ambush in Moriarty’s study might have gone.

He dreamt!

In some, the dome held longer. In some, the poison bloomed faster. In some, Moriarty moved first, or the Fiend did, or the Verdant Regard hesitated at the last.

In every one, Poona stepped forward!

She took her true form, filled half the study, and burned her Immensity to a wall of living color. And in every single one, as the wall went up, she was smiling!

On the outside, Noah’s face stayed still. His gold eyes stayed calm. But the Human in him pulsed as anger and grief came pouring up through the crack, and kept pouring.

You have better understood the emotion side of your humanity as with your evolution, your emotions grow infinitely as the happier, loving, angry, lustful, fearful...any extreme of emotions you experience will experience infinite growth and only further elevate your power.

...!

Noah’s eyes pulsed as he looked closer, past the drained colors and the cracked eye, down into the deepest place in what was left of her, as he had once looked into the Warden’s chest.

Something was still there!

It was faint, almost nothing, a flicker far down in the grey. Every Age of her Immensity had been burned to hold that wall. But at the very bottom, something was still unfinished.

A dream.

Poona was dead. Her dream lingered, faint, and still alive!

Noah walked down into the hollow, past the torn grey edges of the slime, while the whole Legacy watched in silence. Moriarty lifted his head. The Thinker’s beads went still.

He knelt beside her, laid his stellar dark hand flat on the grey, torn surface, and closed his gold eyes.

Under his palm, the slime was cold, and still, and far heavier than it looked.

His dream went down first, soft and blue-gold, sinking into the grey mass as warm water sinks into snow. It found every place where her Immensity had been burned out and scorched clean. And at the very bottom, where the last flicker waited, it closed around it, gently, and drew it up.

Poona’s dream came into his hand!

A kitchen. Warm, cluttered, bright with lamplight, somewhere deep inside the Legacy in an Age long past.

Pastries cooling on every surface, on the shelves, on the windowsill, piled on plates along a table far too long for any kitchen to hold. Flour in the air. Noise everywhere. Every Immense One she had ever talked to sat around that table at once, arguing and laughing and reaching across one another for the last of the honey cakes that burned with Immensity.

Moriarty, younger, his spectacles whole, trying to read at the table and failing. The Ashen Cantor singing badly on purpose. The Keeper of the Unbroken Vow pretending not to eat. And at the head of the table, an empty chair, carved and plain, with a cup of tea set in front of it, still steaming, waiting for someone to come home and sit down.

Lucy’s chair!

That was what Poona had dreamed. All of them, at one table, fed and loud and safe, and the chair kept ready.

Noah held the dream against his chest and carried it down past his skin and his constellations of dreams, down to the Tree. He laid the kitchen at the base of the endless trunk, where the first ring glowed, and dreamed it into...Immensity. As he had dreamed Ling’s. Through his own Dream, past the door, without asking the door’s permission.

The dream began to grow. Its lamplight deepened. Its warmth went down, layer under layer, Immensity filling it from below like a well filling with water.

The sky over the Plain of Accord split open!

BOOM!

Obsidian gold poured through a crack that ran from one horizon to the other, straight through the ring of empty thrones, down onto the snow, onto Noah kneeling in the hollow with his hand on a corpse and a dream cupped against his chest.

A voice only he could hear boomed out!

How dare you.

The dead are counted. The dead stay counted.

You would dare to dream what existence has ended?

...!

It landed on his back like the weight of every Age at once!

His knees drove into the snow. His crown of radiance flared, guttered, flared again. The constellations of dreams under his skin blazed and dimmed and blazed, and the obsidian gold ground down on him, searching for the place where he would let go.

He held the dream!

Bent over it as a man holds a child in a burning house, his whole body a roof, he let every ounce of the Judgment fall on him, and THE One Foundation took it and built it into floor beneath him. He kept it from the kitchen. He kept it from the chair!

Around the Plain, nobody moved, for what they perceived was different from what Noah percieved!

The Judgment pressed down one last time, then withdrew, and the sky closed behind it.

The Judgment has been withstood.

Judgment Debt: 3. Existence will remember.

...!

Noah raised his head, snow settled on his white-gold hair, and laid the dream back at the bottom of the torn slime, where he had found it. It sank out of his hand and settled into the place where her Immensity had burned out.

Then he spoke to her. His voice was quiet. It carried across the whole Plain anyway!

"Dream once more," Noah said.

He kept his hand on her.

"Under my gaze and brilliance... dream."

...!

The corpse buzzed!

A single deep vibration rose from the bottom, where the dream had settled, and then the color came back, one slow wave of it rolling outward through every drained stripe and every torn edge.

At the center, the great eye shudderd.

The crack down its middle sealed from the bottom up. The dull ice warmed. And the eye opened, clear and bright and fully awake, and fine glowing threads ran out of the depths behind it, across the snow, into Noah’s chest, into his Tree.

A new Immensity rose out of Poona!

It rose over the Plain, smelling faintly of honey cakes and lamplight, and every Immense One on the Plain of Accord felt it!

Kin Evolution: Poona has established a Dream Immensity.

Sap risen toward the First Bough: 38%.

...!

The slime gathered itself and shrank, until a small round shape sat in the snow in front of Noah, gleaming with every color, its one great eye blinking up at the gathered Legacy.

Moriarty and others showed extremely complex expressions as many eyes turned over and locked onto Noah!

What had he just done?! He revived...an Immensity?

Who among them could do this?!

...!

As for Poona, she turned to Noah and smiled brilliantly, and through her Dream Immensity he sensed her about to kneel to him before everyone. He quickly and sternly sent her a command not to!

She went very quiet.

Moriarty bent and looked at Poona with wonder. He then looked at Noah for a long time across the snow as he also sensed the somber gazes of many others, with other Immense ones showing hungry and interested looks by the dozens!

So he raised his voice, and spoke to the whole Plain.

"THE Legacy of THE Acharya of Immensity," Moriarty said, "has never named a Son. Not once, since Lucy founded it. She left directions that if and when the time came when the nights grew long and all doors closed, someone would have to be named THE Legacy’s Son. Someone who may be able to gaze past the treachery of the long cold and ensure the Legacy shines bright...till the doors are open once more!"

HUUM!

His crimson eyes stayed on Noah. "Before this winter grows any longer, I would like to propose THE Legacy’s Son."

...!

THE Legacy’s Son!

Nobody on the Plain spoke.

At its edge, THE Thinker at the End of Existence knelt in the snow with his beads still, and smiled his fierce almost-smile, and said nothing at all.

The snow fell on the Plain of Accord, heavier than before. It fell on the empty thrones and the gathered Legacy, on a small bright slime blinking in the hollow, on a Legacy beginning to prepare for the long winter ahead.

And it fell on the man its oldest scholar had just proposed to name THE Legacy’s Son as he was feeling his rising dream after doing the unthinkable!
