Chapter 3 – It’s All Because The Kid Is Too Uncultured

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

Seeing that the giant beast in front of him that had claimed to be a “dragon” didn’t move for a long time, Charles felt a little uncertain. He was currently running on an empty stomach, and his last bit of strength had been used to summon fire. If the giant beast were to try and swallow him in one bite, he probably wouldn’t be able to make it far before being caught.

The more that he thought about it, the more scared he became. The little milk dragon [1] lowered his head and slowly started to inch away…

  Sure enough, he should run!

However, Jiang Wuyi’s huge body quickly disappeared, and before Charles even had time to react, he felt himself falling downwards. His waist was immediately caught by two hands一and he landed on the ground while being carried by Jiang Wuyi.

Jiang Wuyi drew back his hands, took out a handkerchief, and wiped them.

The two were standing close together, and it was only now that Charles realized that the person in front of him was actually a head taller than him. Although he wouldn’t have been hurt from the fall, the polite little dragon still instinctively raised his head and said, “Thank you.”

Jiang Wuyi didn’t speak. He stretched out his hand and lifted up the stray strands of hair that were covering Charles’s forehead, then leaned forward slightly and attentively observed his dark red horns. When Charles saw him approaching, he immediately started to struggle.

Getting pressed down like this and having his horns be observed really hurt his pride!

”Hey, you’re not allowed to look!”

Charles was surprised to find that, even though it was obviously just a hand that was lightly placed on his forehead, he couldn’t break free for some strange reason.

Jiang Wuyi naturally ignored him, and even poked the tip of one of the little horns with his hand, “Interesting.”

Charles understood what he said, and puffed up his cheeks in anger. He threateningly reached out a hand to hit him. At first, Jiang Wuyi didn’t care. He had placed a restriction on the little beast’s body, and as long as he didn’t lift it, Charles wouldn’t be able to touch him.

However, the development of things didn’t quite go as he’d expected.

That layer of the restriction was hit by Charles a few times, and was unexpectedly broken very easily. Charles was so angry that he bit down on Jiang Wuyi’s wrist at once.

But Charles had forgotten that his human-shaped teeth weren’t very sharp, so although he used great strength, he only managed to leave behind a faint teeth mark.

The eyes of the old locust tree [2] widened completely and he took a breath of surprise, “Daren [3]!”

Jiang Wuyi was surprised, but he showed a slight smile. He was already dressed rather nicely and had a handsome face, and his smile added a different kind of amorous feeling to his appearance. He reached out and tapped Charles’s horns again, and Charles became thoroughly unable to move.

  ”Where did you come from?”

Charles had been feeling a little panicked after biting the other, but when his horns were touched again, he was so angry that his eyes turned red. The little milk dragon wanted to spray him with a faceful of fire, but then Jiang Wuyi’s terrifying aura rushed out again, and he faltered, “…The Phaedens Sea.”

Jiang Wuyi raised his eyebrows, “Sea?”

The old locust tree walked over, circled Charles a few times, and shook his head, saying, “Little kid [4], you must not lie. This old man has lived for thousands of years, and I’ve never heard of such a place before. Us adults are in a good mood today, so if you are honest, and seeing as you are still young, your life can be spared.”

His tone was displeased, and though he said a lot, Charles didn’t understand too much of it, but he did understand the meaning of the word “lie”. Charles immediately looked at him in anger, “How did I lie, why are you all accusing me of lying!”

Jiang Wuyi didn’t say anything, he only raised his wrist and stared at the tooth marks there. The old locust tree stepped forward, took out a mirror from his sleeve, and with a light push, the mirror flew on top of Charles’s head.

Charles was looking up suspiciously when he heard the old locust tree ask again, “Kid, say it again. What are you and where are you from?”

The little milk dragon mulled over it for a long time before he finally managed, with difficulty, to figure out what he was asking. He impatiently started struggling again, “I said that I’m a dragon! From the Phaedens Sea!”

As his voice fell, the surface of the delicate mirror rippled like water, slowly revealing the word “true”. This not only shocked the old locust tree, even Jiang Wuyi became a lot more spirited.

It’s just that, besides Jiang Wuyi… How could there be another dragon in this world?

  And it’s even such a strange-looking dragon?

As the two people pondered over this, Charles took the opportunity to break free of his restriction again, turned around and ran. Just as he was about to transform into a dragon and fly away, he was caught by the collar of his shirt and pulled back.

He looked back angrily, and sure enough, it was Jiang Wuyi.

Jiang Wuyi hauled the little milk dragon back, looked down at him and asked, “What’s your name?”

Charles felt uncomfortable getting dragged back, but he could only stare at him and said, “…Charles Lean.”

”Weird and unpleasant to the ears.”

  Charles: !!!

Jiang Wuyi muttered this to himself, and Charles took a deep breath of anger. If it weren’t because his life was currently in the other’s hands, he’d definitely retaliate against him.

Realizing that placing a restriction wouldn’t work on the little dragon, Jiang Wuyi took out a silver rope from who knows where, and tied Charles up. Jiang Wuyi then threw him to the ground, adjusted his sleeves, and said, “Bring him back.”

After saying that, he turned and left. Charles felt that the rope was a little weird. The old locust tree stared at his little golden head for a long time, and finally couldn’t help rubbing his head with his hands.

”This Immortal-Trapping Rope will become tighter the more you struggle. Little kid, just behave a little better and you’ll suffer less. Let’s go.”

Charles felt that his hair had gotten messed up from being rubbed, and tried to avoid his hands, shaking his head. The old locust tree grabbed at an unused section of the rope and led him away.

They stopped when they reached a bamboo house.

Charles had never seen this kind of building before, and the things inside were also strange, just as strange as those two people. He also didn’t know where the giant beast from before had gone. Only he and this little old man were currently inside the house.

He didn’t know why, but Charles couldn’t muster up any feelings of hostility towards this little old man. In fact, he even felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity towards him, so he asked without thinking, “What race are you?”

The old locust tree smiled and poured him a cup of tea, and with a light tap, the Immortal-Trapping Rope disappeared. Charles felt that it was very mystical. He held up the bamboo cup and smelled it, and when he saw the old locust tree take a few sips, he blinked and asked, “What is this?”

  ”You’ve never had this before?”

  Charles shook his head, “No.”

The old locust tree touched his beard, “It’s tea. You sure are a weird kid. Daren even showed up as a real dragon in front of you, yet you still had to ask?”

”He’s really a dragon? But I’ve never seen a dragon like that before, how weird…”

Charles still couldn’t resist taking a sip of tea. He smacked his lips, thought that the taste wasn’t bad, and happily took another sip. He looked up at the old locust tree, “So are you also a dragon?”

The old locust tree immediately shook his head, “I would not presume to have the honour of being one. In this world, only Daren belongs to the dragon clan, and he’s the one true dragon! As for myself, I am just a locust tree.”

His way of speaking was difficult to understand. Charles was confused and could only grasp the key point, “The only one… There are no other dragons here?”

Charles was shocked and his heart tightened. There was only one dragon left, wouldn’t that cause him to get bullied to death by all the other races? Not to mention all those divine beings, they’d definitely never let a dragon live a good life!

”Where exactly is this place… Do you have anything like a map here?”

Charles had just figured out what race Jiang Wuyi belonged to, and now he felt bad for him. When he thought about the fact that there was no dragon clan here, he felt even more dizzy and confused.

A strong feeling of uneasiness lingered in his heart. The little milk dragon racked his brain, and decided that he should find out where he was first.

”We have a map.” The old locust tree sat upright, rummaged through his long, pale cyan-coloured sleeves, and took out a piece of jade. When he saw this familiar-looking item, Charles stood up and prepared to make a run for it, as if he were facing a formidable enemy. The old locust tree hurriedly waved his hand.

”Don’t be afraid, sit down and look.”

The little milk dragon sat down on the chair again, and saw the old locust tree casually throw the jade piece up. The jade piece floated in midair and cast out a map.

Charles’s eyes widened, and he couldn’t help sighing, “How amazing, what kind of magic is this!”

For a moment, the old locust tree didn’t know how to explain it, but Charles soon realized that something was wrong. He couldn’t find any familiar markings on this map at all, even the shapes of land and sea were completely different!

Charles circled around the floating map a few times, panicking in his heart, and looked at the old locust tree aggrievedly, “You lied to me again…”

The old locust tree saw that the little kid was about to cry, and was about to try coaxing him, when he saw Jiang Wuyi walk in through the door. He quickly lowered his head, “Daren.”

Jiang Wuyi waved his hand and said, “You can go.”

The old locust tree looked at Charles, hesitated for a moment, then turned and walked out of the bamboo house.

There were only two dragons left in the room now, one big and one small, both looking at each other in dismay. Charles was stared at by the other’s expressionless face, and as the uneasiness in his heart increased, he couldn’t help but let out a belch.

Jiang Wuyi avoided him with some disdain, and gracefully sat down on the main seat, “Tell me about where you’re from.”

Jiang Wuyi’s attitude when speaking was very different from that of the old locust tree. With a single sentence, one could tell that he’s a person of a high-ranking position who wasn’t easy to deal with, but Charles couldn’t tell. He only thought that this dragon was very rude, speaking to people like he was giving an order, which was very irritating.

It’s just like those old dragons who once disliked him for being of mixed-blood!

So, Charles wrinkled his face and replied unhappily, “I’m from Dragon Island, and I’m really a dragon… Don’t look at me like that, I’m not lying!”

Thinking that he was in someone else’s territory right now, Charles softened his voice that had just raised a little, and said embarrassedly, “I had been swept away by the ocean waves… I found myself here when I woke up, and I really didn’t mean to trespass…”

A dragon being swept away by the waves was really too embarrassing. Charles was also young and took these kinds of things very seriously. After speaking, his fair face turned red, and his fingers were grasping his little cloak helplessly. He looked soft and obedient, appearing the complete opposite of when he had been angrily spewing fire and biting people before.

Jiang Wuyi understood when he saw.

This little beast behaved very capriciously, with his temper coming and leaving quickly. When he was angry, he’d bare his fangs and brandish his claws. When he felt embarrassed, he’d bow his head and blush, just like those newly transformed little monsters, not very sensible at all.

Restrictions couldn’t be used on this little beast either, and not even the suppression using his dragon’s aura seemed to have much of an effect, at most Charles would only sense a slight, dwindling force. If it were an ordinary spirit, it would’ve already knelt down and begged for mercy, rather than bite him.

Moreover… That Truth-Reflecting Mirror had already confirmed that he really wasn’t lying, he was indeed a dragon.

So Jiang Wuyi’s expression relaxed and he said, “What I mean is, before coming here, where’s your original realm located?”

Charles tilted his head slightly, “Realm?”

Jiang Wu nodded, “Just now I saw that there’s a hole at the barrier surrounding the valley, and there are many fish, shrimps and sea objects scattered about, but the Divine Dragon Springs is too far from the sea. Your origin is really strange.”

He paused, before continuing, “You should know that in the Realm of Profound Reality, from the Divine Court to the Demon Lair, and within the Four Kingdoms, Five Territories, and Eight Wastelands, I am the only dragon.”

Charles felt that this person seemed to be speaking a lot of nonsense, and he didn’t quite understand it.

Seeing that Charles still hadn’t reacted after a long time had passed, and that he had an appearance of wanting to say something but then hesitating, Jiang Wuyi sighed and took a sip of tea.

He felt that this was impossible.

Communicating with this little dragon boy was a bit of a strenuous task.

However, Jiang Wuyi was very curious about this little dragon now, so he could only put down his cup and exerted a great deal of effort to explain it to him again. Charles finally replied, “I’m from the Noah Continent, you should have heard of it before, right?”

  Noah Continent?

The little milk dragon spoke with an expectant tone, and he looked at Jiang Wuyi with eager eyes. Jiang Wuyi now felt that the dragon cub was a little more pleasing to the eye than before, but his expression was still cold and he said dryly, “I seem to be unfamiliar with such a place [5].”

After speaking, he fell silent for a while. He felt that this little kid probably didn’t understand, so he changed it to a more direct statement.

  ”… Never heard of it.”

With just four words, thousands of years of his cultural and literary accomplishments were swept aside.

Who let this little milk dragon be so uncultured?

While Charles was busy feeling disappointed, at this moment, he still didn’t know yet that Jiang Wuyi’s mind was currently turning, and that a cultural education class had already been arranged for him.

Notes:

1. Little milk dragon: I don’t think he’s actually, like, a milk dragon. I’m pretty sure the “milk” here is used to show his youth and naivety (he’s really young and milk is usually associated with kids, I guess?), and also because it’s a cute nickname.

2. Old locust tree: Previously translated as locust tree, but I think he’s actually a Chinese scholar tree (also known as Japanese pagoda tree or Sophora japonica), unless “locust tree” is just another name for that type of tree. Also, I don’t know if he has a proper name, or if he’s just called “old locust tree.” I could go with the original Chinese name, “Lao Huaishu”, or maybe “Old Huaishu” if that’s better? (Btw, if you’re wondering why there’s a walking, talking locust tree, he’s probably a magical tree spirit that gained sentience and turned into a human lol).

3. Daren: A title of respect toward superiors. Kind of means something like “Your/His Excellency”, but I felt that it would sound a little awkward if I used that phrase throughout the text, so I kept it as “Daren.”

4. Little kid: It’s a cuter way of saying “kid” in Chinese, it means “baby” or “doll.” Also, occasionally Charles will also be referred to as a “cub”.

5. I seem to be unfamiliar with such a place: The original literally means “I’ve never heard of it before”, but it’s a more sophisticated way of saying it… I tried to do the same in English lol.
