Chapter 4 – You Even Want To Turn Me Into A Pig?

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

The expectant look in Charle’s eyes disappeared instantly, “You’ve never heard of it…”

For some reason, when he saw those two eyes, Jiang Wu felt that the way that the dragon cub said those words made it seem as if he was the uncultured one. Charles felt that the situation wasn’t looking too good, and he was at a loss for a while. After thinking about it, he still felt uneasy.

What if this dragon and that old locust tree were working together to fool him?

He only fell into the sea, how could the world as he knew it completely change [1] upon waking up? This kind of situation was really difficult for him to accept.

They must be trying to trick a dragon!

The little dragon cub’s eyes moved around, and his gaze carried a faint trace of hostility when he looked towards Jiang Wuyi again. He was easy to read, and almost all his thoughts were displayed directly on his face. Jiang Wuyi could tell what he was thinking with just one glance. He calmly put down his teacup and said in a low voice, “Want to leave?”

Charles was startled. This dragon could read minds!

Jiang Wuyi’s lips curled slightly, “You broke the barrier of my Divine Dragon Springs. It’s only reasonable to say that that’s a crime deserving of death…”

  ”Become… A pig!”

[T/n: Charles misheard. “Crime deserving of death” sounds similar to “become a pig” in Chinese.]

The little milk dragon’s eyes widened, and his pitch of voice rose by a few degrees. He was so scared that he sniffled a little, “You even want to turn me into a pig?”

  This was too vicious!

Just as vicious as the witches in those story books!

  Jiang Wuyi: …

Jiang Wuyi was silent for a while, and calmed himself down by silently reminding himself in his heart that the other was uncultured, uncultured, uncultured! Then he said, “I want your life!”

Charles heaved a sigh of relief, and then reacted to his words. This threat seemed to be even worse than the previous one, and he immediately took a few steps back.

Jiang Wuyi saw this and said, “But because you’re a dragon, I can spare… Let you off for the time being.”

The dragon cub was slightly skeptical, and he hadn’t let his guard down around Jiang Wuyi yet. He still felt that it would be better to run away quickly.

Jiang Wuyi felt tired and didn’t want to waste any more energy on talking, so he stood up, “You can temporarily live here for now. I still have to think about what you’re going to do to make it up to me.”

Charles was full of grievances, “Hey, how should I know how your barrier broke, you’re being too unreasonable!”

  ”Unreasonable?”

Jiang Wuyi acted like he had just heard a joke, “I’ve always been unreasonable.”

He was about to head outside after he finished speaking, but anger flared up in Charles’s heart and he immediately grabbed onto Jiang Wuyi’s sleeve fiercely.

It wasn’t until Jiang Wuyi turned around and a pair of pure black irises looked over at him that the little milk dragon felt a little scared again. He swallowed back the anger-filled curse words that he was about to say and blurted out, “You… You, then what’s your name?”

The little dragon cub’s voice was originally soft and sticky, and as he tugged at Jiang Wuyi’s sleeve in a panicky way, he looked very pitiful. His words were dragged out and the tone was lengthened, like a child who had just learned to speak.

Then Jiang Wuyi thought about the words that he’d used before, and how his accent was always weird, and his pronunciation wasn’t very clear. Jiang Wuyi didn’t know whether he’d been stranded in this place for too long, or if this little dragon cub was just too loveable, but his usually emotionless heart softened a little, as if it had been gently poked by someone.

Jiang Wuyi thought that this kid was pretty cute when he wasn’t biting people.

So he pulled back his sleeve, unhurriedly tidied it up, and replied, “Jiang Yan.”

Charles perked up his ears, “Jiang Yan?”

Jiang Wu nodded, then turned and left.

Charles was the only one left inside the bamboo house now. The little milk dragon walked to the door, saw that Jiang Wuyi was gone, and felt that it was strange.

  He just… Left like that?

The little milk dragon’s eyes lit up, and he saw this as an opportunity to run away. Just as he was about to transform into a dragon again, he saw a pale pink ball roll in from outside the courtyard and crash into the doorpost. The ball fell apart.

It was actually a chubby little boy who looked to be around eight or nine years old.

The child rubbed his head, as if he’d been hurt, and grimaced in pain as he sat down on the ground. When he saw Charles, he jumped up excitedly and ran in circles around him.

”You’re the new little dragon! Your name is Charles, right?”

Charles was so annoyed by his running, and he said fiercely, “Stop circling me, or I’ll bite you!”

The child really stopped running around, and Charles finally took a clear look at his chubby face and plump belly. The child walked up to him with a smile, “I’m Taoerxian [2], Daren asked me to keep you company. Charles, do you like to drink?”

  Charles shook his head.

Alcohol was a very common thing in the Noah Continent. He had tried many different kinds in Robs Sea City, but he didn’t like any of them. There was only one wine that tasted good, and it was a very precious grape wine that had been brought by a divine envoy from a distant place.

As he thought about that, he asked, “Is there any grape wine here?”

Taoerxian shook his head, “No, but there’s the fruit wine and peach blossom wine that I brewed. If you want to taste it, I can take you to dig for it.”

Charles was immediately interested by his words, “Dig? Where?”

Taoerxian said, “In the peach blossom grove by the lake. I brewed a lot and buried it all there. The old locust tree and Daren also like to drink it, but it’s a pity that there aren’t many fairies and spirits here in the Divine Dragon Springs. If you like it, you can go and get some anytime you want.”

Any thoughts about escaping were instantly forgotten by the little milk dragon. He squatted down and looked at Taoerxian with a smile, “Let’s go now!”

Taoerxian didn’t dillydally and immediately took him to the peach grove. The little milk dragon followed step by step behind him, acting even more obedient than when he’d been tied up with the rope from before.

The mountainous area here was filled with creeping vines and undergrowth, and the pavilion that was situated atop the cliffside was hidden among the trees and shrubbery that were scattered like stars. It was impossible to tell it apart from its surroundings if one didn’t look carefully enough. Jiang Wuyi and the old locust tree were currently sitting at the peak of the mountain. Through the round, carved windows of the room, they could see one big and one small figure heading towards the peach blossom grove.

The old locust tree was amazed, and shook his head, saying, “He’s really just like a child.”

Jiang Wuyi didn’t say anything. The old locust tree looked at him and asked, “Daren, what are you planning on doing with him?”

Although his pale golden robe was gorgeous, it was designed in a complicated fashion and was somewhat of a hindrance. Jiang Wuyi slightly adjusted his sitting posture, and when he heard the old locust tree’s question, he casually said, “He’s a dragon.”

”Apart from me, he’s the only other dragon in the world.”

This sentence hit the old locust tree’s heart like a heavy drum, and asked with fear and trepidation, “Daren… Are you going to get rid of him?”

Jiang Wuyi wasn’t surprised that he asked this. After all, if it weren’t for him, the dragon clan would still be prosperous and have many descendants in the present day. So he remained patient and shook his head, “Though he’s a dragon, he’s different from the ones belonging to my race. He’s the only one, and it would be a pity because he hasn’t done anything wrong.”

The old locust tree liked the little dragon, and he breathed a sigh of relief. He asked tentatively, “Then what does Daren mean by this?”

Jiang Wuyi finally couldn’t resist taking off the complicated jade ornaments from his belt. He wanted to put it down but wasn’t really willing to part with it, so he played with it in his hands, “I’ll teach him first.”

After he said this, he couldn’t help muttering again, “I can’t understand anything he says…”

The old locust tree mulled it over in his heart and realized.

Daren intends to raise the little cub!

With heaven and earth’s blessing, there’s still hope for Daren’s legacy to be carried on!

The old locust tree was instantly in high spirits as he thought about this, and his eyes were full of affection as he looked in Charles’s direction.

As for Charles, he followed Taoerxian all the way into the peach blossom grove. When he saw that Taoerxian had stopped walking, he poked the little fatty’s face with puzzlement.

  ”Why’d we stop?”

Taoerxian stretched out a hand and conjured two small shovels out of thin air, “Take one, you can dig anywhere under these trees. There are around seven or eight types of fruit wine, along with peach blossom wine and locust blossom wine [3]. Whatever you dig up all depends on your luck.”

Charles had lived on Dragon Island since he was a child, and although he’d been to the city by the sea, he was still a dragon after all. He’d always lay low for fear of being discovered by the divine envoys, and he’d never carefreely played around before either. Not surprisingly, his interest was provoked this time, and he grabbed a small shovel and ran into the woods.

It wasn’t easy to finally find someone to play with him, and Taoerxian smiled so much that his eyes couldn’t be seen anymore. He followed him and went to dig for wine jars.

Charles was happily digging away, puffing and blowing as he wielded his shovel. Before long, he’d already dug out seven or eight jars of wine. Taoerxian saw that he still wanted to dig for more and immediately stopped him, saying, “Stop digging, these are enough. Let’s see what they are.”

So the little dragon cub squatted happily by the wine jars, watching intently as Taoerxian opened up a jar. This wine wasn’t very old, and though it was fragrant, it wasn’t too strong.

Taoerxian scooped some up with a small spoon and gave it to Charles for him to taste. Charles smacked his lips. He could taste a faint fragrance of flowers in his mouth, and a strange and burning sensation spread out from the tip of his tongue.

At first he felt that it was a little overwhelming, but after considering it carefully, he decided that it was a very rare, excellent wine. Charles was instantly full of curiosity towards the other jars as well, “It’s delicious! What is it?”

”Locust blossom wine, it’s very fragrant right?”

Charles bit the spoon and looked eagerly at Taoerxian, “I want to drink more.”

Taoerxian put on a magnanimous appearance and patted his chest, “Then let’s take this with us and go catch some fish in the lake. There’s a type of spirit fish in the lake that’s particularly tasty, and it’ll come out nice and crispy when it’s wrapped in leicao leaves [4] and roasted. It goes well with wine!”

The little milk dragon almost drooled when he heard this. He bounced with joy as he moved the wine jars with Taoerxian, and then they went together to fish in the lake. Charles couldn’t be any more familiar with catching fish, and he turned back into his original form of a dragon. It didn’t take long for him to catch about a dozen fish.

This was Taoerxian’s first time seeing this kind of dragon, and he looked at him for a while in amazement before picking up the fish on the ground.

As the sun set, smoke rose up from within the small courtyard of the bamboo house.

Charles stood by the small stove as he sampled each wine one by one, holding on to it happily and refusing to let go. Taoerxian skillfully cleaned up the fish, wrapped them in leicao leaves, and placed them onto the small stove. The fragrance spread out instantly, and Charles’s eyes locked onto it immediately.

Due to his birthplace, he’s always loved to eat fish, but in Noah Continent, humans seemed to prefer the meat that could be found on land. Only the poor ate fish to survive, so Robs Sea City actually wasn’t that prosperous. The types of food available and methods of preparing food were few and far between, and because he also had to hide his identity, Charles had never eaten anything really good before.

His favourite food was the fish he’d caught himself. He would casually roast it with fire and thought it was delicious.

However, the fish in front of him had a tangy scent that was different from the ones he’d eaten in the past. What he didn’t know was that because these fish always lived in the vicinity of a dragon, they had absorbed the dragon’s vital energy. Their bones and marrow had already been cleansed and renewed, which was why they’re so plump and delicious.

Taoerxian finished roasting a few and generously handed them over to Charles. He said happily, “It’s rare to find someone to eat fish with me. You should eat more, I’m best at grilling fish.”

Charles found it strange, “Jiang Yan and the old locust tree don’t eat with you?”

”Daren has the body of the Dragon God, how could he be a glutton? The old locust tree doesn’t need to…”

Taoerxian paused halfway through his sentence. He seemed to have realized something, and was so frightened that he almost dropped the fish into the fire.

Charles quickly caught the fish and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Taoerxian’s heart trembled, and he lowered his voice, “How can you call Daren directly by his name!”

Charles’s head was lowered as he ate the fish, “Why can’t I call him that? He’s the one who told me his name.”

Taoerxian was in a daze for a while before saying, ” …Right, you’re also a dragon. Apart from Daren and you, I’ve never seen any other dragons before.”

The two continued chatting and drinking, such that even when the moon had risen to the tip of the sky, the smoke in the air had not yet vanished.

Just like this, the little milk dragon settled down without much complaint, saving the others a lot of effort. It wasn’t until Jiang Wuyi was about to go to sleep, that he saw a pink ball suddenly roll into his pavilion, crying and bringing to him a complaint.

”Daren, help! Charles is chasing me and he tried to burn me with fire!”

The old locust tree heard the commotion and ran in. He quickly checked Taoerxian’s injuries, only to find that there was a big whole burned through his pink robe, revealing the inner lining and the tender white skin underneath, exposing half of his buttocks.

Jiang Wuyi raised his eyebrows slightly, “Why did he burn you?”

Taoerxian was choked with sobs, “He was drunk and turned back to his original body. He asked me if he looked good, but I had also drunk too much wine and I said that he’s not that good-looking. Then Charles became angry and kept chasing me and spitting fire at my butt!!!”

He was crying so much that his speech was slurred, with streams of snot and tears running down his face, “He fl-flew too fast, too fast! Da… hic, Daren, I really can’t run anymore!”

Jiang Wuyi thought to himself: Who told you to eat so much all the time, which other peach blossom spirits were as fat as a ball like you!

Before he got a chance to speak, a dark red dragon flew towards them from outside, hurtling a raging ball of fire directly at them.

The old locust tree immediately set up a barrier to protect the three of them. However, it was probably due to the fact that Charles was full of food and wine, so the fire that he sent out this time was completely different than the one from earlier that day, and the whole building was burnt down in an instant.

Clad in a layer of thin, inner-garments, Jiang Wuyi surveyed the room that was burned down in the twinkling of an eye. Beside his ears was the sound of Taoerxian’s woeful crying, and right in front of him was another drunken dragon cub. He took a deep breath. He raised his hand to stop the little dragon who was about to make trouble again, and lightly patted the dragon’s head. Charles immediately recovered his human form.

The little dragon cub grumpy wanted to walk forward, but missed a step and fell onto the floor. His face was flushed and his eyes were glazed over, but he still refused to give up and stared at Taoerxian, yelling, “I’m not ugly!”

  He felt so wronged!

  Long Long wasn’t ugly [5]!

Taoerxian trembled, “You’re not ugly, you’re not ugly, I’m the ugly one, okay!”

”You said that I’m not good-looking!”

  ”Wuwuwuwu I was wrong [6]…”

Jiang Wuyi closed his eyes, and felt that his head hurt a little.

Notes:

1. Completely change: Idiom meaning “heaven and earth turning upside down.”

2. Taoerxian: Translates to peach fairy/spirit. I’m guessing he’s like the old locust tree and doesn’t have a proper name (at least not that we know of yet). I decided that it would be easier to keep his name in Chinese. Also, the “x” in his name is pronounced with a “sh” sound lol.

3. Locust blossom wine: Once again, it’s probably not the flowers from a locust tree, but actually a Chinese scholar tree (Sophora japonica). It’s just that “Chinese scholar tree blossom wine” or “Sophora japonica blossom wine” is a bit of a mouthful, so for simplicity’s sake, I’m just going to refer to it as “locust blossom” (even though I know it’s wrong haha). The flowers of the locust tree and Chinese scholar tree actually look pretty similar too, they belong to the same family of flowering plants.

4. Leicao leaves: “Lei” translates to “radium” (“cao” is grass) and that just reminds me of the radioactive metallic element, so I think it sounds better in Chinese.

5. Long Long: The word “dragon” (lóng) repeated twice. It’s a cute way of calling him.

6. Wuwuwuwu: The sound of crying.
