Chapter 5222: TrickyWithin the secret realm, Shen Shiqi also walked alone. Yet ever since entering this place, he had sensed the lurking dangers here. Therefore, even he dared not let his guard down.
“Not a single soul encountered? Where could everyone be?” He felt a slight surprise at this strange situation—not meeting a single person in the two days since entering.
Glancing around, he took out the communication jade and tried again. The previously silent jade finally responded.
Seeing this, he first attempted to contact the others. He discovered that while he could reach some, others were already unreachable.
As he bent over, holding the communication jade to inquire about others’ situations, he failed to notice the branches of the large tree behind him silently shifting. In that instant, they transformed like a vine, suddenly whipping toward him with a sharp whoosh.
Almost simultaneously, Shen Shiqi dodged aside in a flash, spinning around to look back. Seeing the tree branches whipping through the air, he raised an eyebrow. ” A tree possessed by a spirit?” His hand moved, gripping a long sword. Seeing the vine attack, he leaped upward, swinging his blade at the vine.
“Clang!”
Instead of the expected snapping of the vine, a crisp metallic clang echoed, sparks flying between the vine and the sword’s edge.
“Huh?”
Shen Shiqi stared in astonishment at the vine. As surrounding trees suddenly softened like vines and coiled toward him, he spun and leapt aside, swiftly retreating.
He drew a fire starter, channeling sword qi into a burst of flame that he swung downward. The flames shot out with a whoosh, propelled by the sword qi’s air current, striking the dancing branches. Yet, despite the blazing fire, the great tree remained utterly undamaged.
“Damn it!”
His heart sank, his expression darkening. This extraordinary scene made him realize the situation was dire!
Without hesitation, he turned and fled. As he retreated, the surrounding trees shifted, forming a barrier to block his escape. What made him gasp in horror was the corpse dangling from the tip of one of the moving trees.
“Hiss!”
He stared in shock at the corpse, which seemed drained of all life force. That man was one of his Shen family’s men, one of the twenty who had entered. Just two days ago, he had seen him strutting around, chest puffed out, boasting that he was worth two men. Now, he was nothing but a desiccated corpse…
“Whoosh!”
“Gah!”
In that split second of distraction, a branch lashed out, striking his arm with lightning speed. In that instant, he felt the splintered wood piercing his flesh, greedily draining his vitality.
Without a second thought, he seized the branch with his free hand. A powerful force surged through his grasp, snapping the branch clean in two.
Snap!
The branch snapped and retracted sharply. His face hardened, radiating an intimidating aura of lethal intent. He reached up, pulled the embedded splinter from his arm, and watched the dancing vines and the formation of trees blocking his path. A low, cold laugh escaped him—a laugh that didn’t reach his eyes, tinged with a bone-chilling chill.
“So, you’re no ordinary tree spirits!” His eyes glinted with cold light as he stared at the trees, as his grip on the sword hilt tightened.
