Chapter 5223: Vital Point“Even humans have fatal weaknesses. Do you mere demon trees think I can’t handle you?” He snorted coldly, his gaze sweeping over the trees. Suddenly, a faint gleam flashed in his eyes as he fixed his stare on the roots buried deep beneath the ground.
“I’ll see if you truly are impervious to blades and arrows!”
The moment the words left his mouth, his body flickered and darted toward the nearest demon tree. As he neared its trunk, the sword gripped in his reverse hand whirled swiftly. Channeling a powerful surge of sword qi, he thrust it violently into the earth.
A burst of sword energy erupted, sending earth flying. A branch snapped clean off, spilling milky sap. In that instant, it seemed as if the tree let out a wretched howl. The branches that had been lashing out at Shen Shiqi instantly retracted, and the entire tree withered rapidly.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The other trees swiftly launched their attacks, lunging toward Shen Shiqi. Realizing the roots were indeed the weak point of these demon trees, Shen Shiqi instantly sidestepped and spun, dodging the incoming branches while simultaneously severing the roots buried deep underground.
Xiao Junyan and Yun Qi, who were nearby, exchanged glances upon hearing the commotion and immediately rushed toward the scene. They had just emerged from a patch of carnivorous plants.
As they approached, they halted. The tree formation blocked their view of those inside, though they could see streaks of sword qi surging out from within.
“That sword aura looks incredibly powerful. Who could it be?” she wondered, blinking her eyes in curiosity.
Xiao Junyan observed the surging currents in the air and the dancing branches. “Probably another team leader,” he remarked. The sword energy was sharp and carried a powerful momentum, combined with the oppressive aura pulsing through the air. Only someone from the major families possessed such formidable strength.
The two didn’t approach but watched from a distance until the commotion gradually subsided and the swaying branches all wilted. Then, Shen Shiqi emerged from within.
“Huh? Who could it be?” Spotting him, Yun Qi’s eyes crinkled with a smile. She stepped forward, examined the trees again, and asked, “How did you make these demon trees wilt?”
Shen Shiqi, recognizing the two, gave Xiao Junyan a slight nod before explaining to Yun Qi, “This place is deeply unnatural. These aren’t ordinary tree spirits—they’re impervious to blades and fire. I had to sever their root systems to destroy them.”
Yun Qi listened, then circled one tree to examine it. Seeing milky sap oozing from its roots, she dabbed some with her finger and sniffed it. A sudden thought struck her, and she retrieved tools from her spatial pouch to begin digging.
“What are you doing?” Shen Shiqi watched her with mild surprise, teasing, “Could there be treasure buried beneath the tree?”
“I’ll find out by digging,” Yue’er declared, straining to dig.
Seeing this, Xiao Junyan stepped forward. “Let me handle it.” He motioned her back, then braced both hands against the trunk. Planting his feet firmly in a horse stance, he channeled his spirit energy. With a surge of force, he yanked the massive tree from the ground.
Yue’er’s eyes widened. “Big Brother Xiao, I never knew you were so strong!”
“The roots were already severed, so pulling it out wasn’t difficult,” Xiao Junyan said. After pushing the tree trunk over, he looked at the emerald-green object beneath the roots and asked, “Is this what you were searching for?”
