Chapter 1825 Tower Land (Part 1)

Both Kai and Gary had finished equipping the specialized gear provided by Lupus, the weight of the new armor feeling both unfamiliar and empowering. They were finally ready to head into the heart of the storm. Around them, the rest of the Howlers and their allies were scrambling into a fleet of vehicles.

Not everyone, however, was heading inside the cabins. Innu had already claimed his spot, standing tall on the reinforced roof of one of the lead SUVs, his eyes scanning the horizon. Beside him on other vehicles stood Blake, Crawley, and a handful of others who were specifically skilled in ranged combat or possessed the ability to strike multiple targets simultaneously from a distance.

What the others noticed, a small moment of warmth amidst the tension, was that Blake wasn't standing alone on his chosen car. He was joined by the Iron Masked Werewolf. Everyone in the inner circle knew exactly who was behind that heavy metal visor, and it was a poignant sight to see the two of them still working in perfect sync, preparing to face the threat together.

“So, is there a definitive plan?” Marie asked, her voice tight with the adrenaline of the coming slaughter.

“Not really,” Kai admitted, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. “Against someone as tough as Unzoku, who surrounds himself with a literal sea of wild creatures, the best thing to do is just charge in as quickly as possible. We can't afford to get bogged down in the outskirts. Me and Gary will deal with Unzoku directly. We’ll charge in fast and try to do as much damage as we possibly can until the right moment comes for me to use the medallion.”

Kai held the ancient item in his hand, his fingers tracing the cold metal and the placed it around his neck underneath the armour. It had worked on Midwak, but he knew the history of the artifact. He needed to use it exactly the same way it had been used in the legends, waiting for the perfect opening before the window of opportunity slammed shut forever.

“Alright then, but me and Xin will stay close behind you,” Marie insisted. “I know neither of you wants to use it unless it’s the absolute last resort, but if it comes down to it, it might be best if you both transform into your True Alpha forms. If that happens, the two of us will be there to help manage the fallout and support the frontline.”

This was a prospect that both Kai and Gary were deeply uncomfortable with. The True Alpha form was a double-edged sword, a primal force that was hard to control, and they didn't want Marie or Xin to get caught in the crossfire or targeted by a desperate Unzoku.

Once everyone was boarded, the convoy of nearly a hundred vehicles roared to life, a mechanical beast heading straight for Tower Land. They drove with a singular purpose until the rusted, creaking sign of the theme park could be seen looming through the mist up ahead. The group didn't hesitate at the gates; they drove through the overgrown car park and continued to push deeper into the ruins.

“Keep going!” Kai shouted, his voice barely audible over the roar of engines and the crunch of gravel. “Drive right through! We go straight to Unzoku! Don't slow down for anything!”

The cars revved their engines to the limit, a thunderous cacophony echoing through the abandoned park. It was at that moment that Unzoku, sitting at the center of his dark kingdom, could feel something.

He was still in the middle of his gruesome feast. His fur was soaked through with dark, crimson blood, and he was still chewing on the remains of his own brood. There were still a large number of Glutton Werewolves crowded around him, mindlessly waiting to be consumed to fuel his recovery, but their numbers had clearly diminished since the feast began.

“All of the Alphas have returned... and they are working together,” Unzoku muttered, a sickening smile stretching across his gore-stained face. “Traveling together in such a dense group... no matter what state I was in, I would have been able to feel their combined presence.”

Now that Unzoku was fully aware of the intruders, he issued a psychic command that vibrated through the minds of every beast in the park.

“Kill anyone who isn't a Glutton that has entered this park,” Unzoku ordered.

Immediately, the Glutton Werewolves turned away from their master and started to spread out with terrifying speed. They were jumping over the rusted tracks of the roller coasters, sprinting through the dilapidated shops, and crawling along the vertical sides of buildings like oversized insects.

The convoy burst through the interior gates, bypassing the old security checkpoints, and headed down the wide shopping street, the main artery that guests would have used to enter the park in years past.

The ambush was instantaneous. Gluttons started to leap from the rooftops toward the moving vehicles. Crawley reacted first, using his razor-sharp feathers like throwing knives, swinging them in wide arcs to intercept the werewolves in mid-air. Innu, standing on his car, threw his heavy axe in a spinning arc that cleaved through multiple targets before he caught it and threw another, landing a perfect blow on a werewolf’s head and killing it on the spot.

Blake was also timing his attacks with lethal precision, dodging the lunging beasts and slashing out with his twin swords in a blur of steel. Beside him, the Iron Masked Werewolf threw out a massive fist, hitting a leaping Glutton square in the chest and sending it flying backward through a shop window.

It wasn't all one-sided, however. Several Gluttons managed to latch onto the sides of the cars. With their unnatural strength, they effortlessly ripped the doors off their hinges, flinging them aside like scrap metal. The Altereds inside were quick to react, striking out at the invaders and forcing them off the moving vehicles.

Disaster struck for some of the convoy; several vehicles swerved to avoid the swarming masses and crashed into the storefronts. The Howler members inside survived the initial impacts, but as they scrambled out of the wreckage, they were instantly swarmed by a sea of Gluttons. There were simply too many of them; before help could reach them, their bodies were being ripped apart by the frenzied pack.

“Gary, don't think about it! Don't look back!” Kai shouted as they continued to drive toward the center. The other cars in the convoy were moving into a protective formation around them, acting as a shield to stop the werewolves from targeting the lead vehicle.

“We need to deal with Unzoku as quickly as possible so no more lives are taken!” Kai yelled over the chaos.

Gary nodded, his eyes fixed forward. Through the smoke and the shadows of the crumbling rides, they could finally see him. Unzoku stood there, surrounded by a sea of blood that pooled at his feet, his arms stretched out as if welcoming his executioners to the end of the world.
