Chapter 1829 A Transformation

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

There were two critical observations Gary had made during his recent, brutal interaction with Unzoku, and both of them weighed heavily on his mind as he panted for air. First, he realized that despite landing a direct, devastating impact on his chest, it was Unzoku’s arm that had taken the brunt of the explosion.

There seemed to be a hidden mechanic at play, a way for Unzoku to manipulate the kinetic energy of a strike and shunt it toward his extremities. By moving the destructive force away from his vitals, Unzoku was making it nearly impossible for anyone to land a finishing blow on his heart or head. The second thing, and perhaps the most discouraging, was that regardless of the severity of the wound, the damage simply didn't stick.

All of the progress Gary had made was being systematically erased. Small-scale attacks and glancing blows were smothered instantly by that strange, oppressive red mist before they could even draw blood. Every hit had to be backed by powerful intent and every ounce of his available Qi just to leave a mark. It was a stark reminder of the uphill battle they were facing. It made Gary wonder, for the first time since the fight began, if there was truly any way to win this fight.

‘I have three last resorts that can provide more power than the attack I just used,’ Gary calculated, his eyes tracking Unzoku’s every micro-movement. ‘There is the active skill on the war hammer, but using that would drain the strength of every Howler currently fighting in the park. They would be left defenseless, and so many lives would be lost in that instant. Then there is the True Alpha form, and lastly, my Golden form. All three carry immense risks, and right now, I don’t feel like Unzoku hasn't been softened up enough.’

If he was going to gamble on these ultimate skills, he had to be absolutely certain they would either kill Unzoku outright or leave him in a state where he couldn't regenerate. Using them too early would be a death sentence for everyone in Tower Land.

Gary jumped back, his feet skidding across the cracked concrete as he tried to stay just out of Unzoku’s reach. While retreating, he swung the war hammer in rapid, circular motions. Large, orb-like projectiles of Shadow Ash flames erupted from the head of the weapon, screaming through the air before crashing into Unzoku’s body.

The sound of the impacts was deafening, a series of concussive booms that echoed off the abandoned theme park rides, but they seemed to do next to nothing. Unzoku stood his ground, the flames washing over his red-tinted fur without scorching it. Then, with a burst of speed that defied his size, the Werewolf leapt forward.

In a moment of pure instinct, Gary triggered his skill to intercept the incoming threat.

[Infernal Roar has been activated]

A massive wave of conical flames erupted from his position, and he swung the hammer down from above with a bone-crushing force.

Unzoku’s reflexes were peerless. One hand shot up, catching the head of the hammer mid-swing and halting its momentum. His other hand lashed out like a viper, grabbing Gary by the waist. With a guttural snarl, Unzoku slammed Gary into the floor with enough force to shatter the underlying foundation.

The mental notification from his system flashed red, showing that Gary had lost a massive amount of HP in that single transition. It made him wonder: if he had never consumed Harvor, never devoured the mythical beast from the Warden, never absorbed Sin, and didn't have this specialized armor crafted by Lupus, would he have even survived that one hit? A lesser werewolf would have been liquefied by the pressure.

As Unzoku loomed over Gary, preparing to deliver a follow-up strike, another figure blurred into motion. Kai jumped onto Unzoku’s back, driving both of his swords down and piercing deep into the back of Unzoku’s neck. For a brief second, the area around the blades started to freeze over, but the ice was quickly burned away by the red mist.

Unzoku reached back to swat the nuisance away, and Gary used that split-second distraction to shove the head of his hammer into the center of Unzoku’s stomach while simultaneously kicking upward with his powerful legs.

The force of the repelling strike exploded, allowing Gary to roll away and regain his footing. When he stood up, wiping a trail of dark blood from his chin, he found Kai standing by his side.

“Thanks,” Gary rasped, his voice thick with the iron taste of blood. The previous hit had clearly caused internal damage, a sensation that Lupus had also experienced despite his incredible shield.

“The way we’re fighting now, Gary... it isn't going to work,” Kai said, his eyes never leaving the monster before them. “I have an idea. I don’t want you to go all-out yet, but is there something you can do to keep his full attention on you? I need him distracted, maybe even pinned down, if only for a moment.”

“I... I can try,” Gary answered, his fur bristling as he prepared to go back in.

“Then we’ll try together,” Kai said. He began to initiate his transformation into his full Wolf Form, but as his body shifted and expanded, the weapons in his hands began to react as well. Lupus had mentioned that an active skill was embedded within the blades, a trait that allowed them to adapt to the user's requirements.

Perhaps it was because of the mental image Lupus held while forging them, or perhaps it was the weapons responding to Kai’s specific Werewolf class, but the swords began to change shape. The blade with the jagged, serrated teeth shifted and wrapped itself over the front of Kai’s maw, covering his snout in a gleaming, armored mask of razor-sharp steel.

The other sword transformed and fused with the top of his head, becoming a large, spiraling, horn-like object that shimmered with elemental energy. He looked like an ancient, armored beast of myth.

“Stay calm, Gary,” Kai growled through his new metal maw. “If we coordinate our strikes, we can win this.”

MWS is close to the end (Will End this Month), so I have decided to go down to One Chapter per day. This will allow me to write Legendary Blood Hunter in the meantime. So once MWS ends, Blood Hunter will be released on the same day!
