Chapter 1835 Howlers Retreat

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The moment the medallion crumbled, the last line of defense against Unzoku’s mental dominance vanished. The red mist swirling around his hands surged outward like a living tide of blood, enveloping both Kai and Gary in an instant. As the aura touched their skin, something deep inside their subconscious clicked, a predatory lock that Gary had fought against since the day he first transformed.

A searing, burning sensation raced through their veins, following the path of their nerves. When Gary tried to shift his weight or even lift a finger, his body refused to respond. It felt as if his muscles had been turned to lead, anchored to the shattered concrete by an invisible force.

‘I’m exhausted, which is probably why this is hitting me ten times harder than it should,’ Gary thought, his breathing ragged. After mastering the art of Qi and evolving through several high-tier forms, he had hoped he could personally resist Unzoku’s influence through sheer willpower. But whether his resistance had truly grown or not was impossible to tell; his stamina was red-lining, and his body was too broken to fight the hypnotic pull of the Red Alpha.

Gary managed to strain his neck, forcing his head to turn just enough to look at Kai. The silver wolf was in even worse shape. Kai’s muscles were bulging and flexing with such intensity that they looked ready to tear, but he was completely paralyzed, a statue of flesh and bone caught in a silent scream.

“Haha! It looks like my powers are finally working exactly as they should,” Unzoku taunted, his voice dripping with sadistic satisfaction.

The two Luna Wolves, Marie and Xin, didn't hesitate. Despite the overwhelming presence of the progenitor, they stepped forward, positioning themselves as a living shield in front of the paralyzed Gary. Their auras flared, casting long shadows across the ruins.

“No!” Gary shouted, the word scraping against his throat. “What are you doing? Get back!”

“If you can’t move, we can’t just leave you here to die!” Xin claimed, her eyes fixed on Unzoku. “We’ll fight him. We’ll figure out some way to win, just like you guys always end up doing for us! It’s our turn to hold the line.”

Gary watched them, a realization dawning on him. Xin and Marie were moving freely. Was it because Unzoku was focusing his entire mental reserve on suppressing two Alphas at once? Or did he simply not care about the Lunas, viewing them as minor annoyances to be dealt with after the main threats were neutralized?

“No,” Gary groaned, fighting the red fog in his mind. “You will lose your lives for no reason. If you can still move, then grab Kai and get him out of here! And not just him, tell all of the Howlers to retreat. Order everyone to get out of this park now!”

“On your own?” Marie asked, her voice cracking. “You and Kai have been fighting him together this whole time and barely holding on, and now you think you can take him on alone?”

Before she could finish her protest, Xin grabbed Marie’s arm with a firm, bruising grip. Without a word of explanation, Xin reached down, grabbed the paralyzed Kai, and began to run.

She had seen the look in Gary’s eyes, the look of a leader. She knew he wasn't telling them to retreat because he had given up; he was clearing the blast zone. Gary was going to use every single drop of energy he had left to take Unzoku down, but to do that, he needed to know that the people he loved were as far away and also try to save as many of them as possible from what he was about to do.

“Haha! What a foolish, pathetic effort!” Unzoku laughed, making no move to stop the fleeing Lunas. “You know why I don’t bother to chase them? Because once you are dead, they will have nowhere left to run. They are already corpses; they just don't know it yet. The only one who ends his journey here today is you.”

Gary gritted his teeth, a bloody smile spreading across his face. Using every ounce of his remaining strength, his arm began to move, slowly, jerkily, inch by painful inch, until he could hold it out in front of him. In a flash of sparks, the war hammer was summoned once more, appearing solidly in his hand.

“Don’t you remember what happened last time, Unzoku?” Gary rasped.

As he spoke, he focused his senses on the retreating Howlers. He could hear Xin’s voice booming across the theme park, her commands sharp and desperate as she ordered the pack to fall back. The Howlers were moving, the confusion in their ranks evident as they heard the panic in her tone.

“Wait, what do they mean 'run'?” Innu shouted, parrying a Glutton’s strike. “Is the fight over? What about Gary?”

“Something big is happening,” Austin added, looking back toward the Haunted House. “But I agree, we can't just leave him there!”

Despite the complaints, the majority of the Howlers complied with the order. Those who cared for Gary most deeply found it impossible to truly leave, following the retreat but keeping their eyes locked on the center of the plaza. Lupus, Slit, and Luzen refused to go far, leading a group toward one of the large, square buildings that housed an indoor water ride.

They scrambled onto the rooftop, joined quickly by Marie, Xin, and the still-recovering Kai. A swarm of Gluttons pursued them, but most of the mindless werewolves remained fixated on the two Alphas below. From their elevated vantage point, the Howlers looked down, aiming to witness the end of the legend.

“Gary... you’re going to win this, right?” Lupus whispered.

Gary didn’t know the exact positions of everyone. He hoped that, at the very least, they were safe from the immediate fallout.

“Last time, your powers didn't work on me, Unzoku,” Gary said, his voice gaining strength. “You went running with your tail between your legs then. And today... I’m much, much stronger than I was that day.”

‘If I’ve only got one minute of life left in this body,’ Gary thought, his Qi beginning to spiral into a violent vortex, ‘then I will use every second to make sure you are erased from existence.’

[Dragon Ash Lycan form has been activated]

[Celestial Resistance has been activated]

A brilliant, blinding golden energy began to burn around Gary’s body, clashing with the dark soot of his Shadow Ash fur. But he wasn't done. He reached out as his warhammer started to glow radiating with energy.

[Howling Eclipse Activated]

[The Weapon hears the Alpha’s Call]

[Power of the Alpha’s Pack is being transferred]

The air in the park began to hum with a terrifying frequency as the collective strength of the Howlers began to flow into the hammer.
