Chapter 1834 The Luna's Howl

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Although both of the Lunas had already decided on their course of action, knowing what needed to be done and actually executing it were two entirely different matters. They had refrained from engaging directly in the chaotic fray for several tactical reasons.

For one, they were acutely aware of the sheer, devastating strength possessed by Kai, Gary, and Unzoku. Even in their empowered states, their raw skills and lunar magic would be next to nothing against the physical juggernauts currently leveling the theme park. They were strong and maybe could last a few seconds but aiding them was another question.

More importantly, getting injured now meant they would be utterly useless when the time came to break Gary and Kai out of their feral states. They were preserving their strength, hovering on the periphery like silver ghosts, waiting for the one perfect moment to act. Ideally, Kai and Gary would have managed to neutralize Unzoku on their own, leaving the Lunas with the simple task of guiding the Alphas back to sanity.

Even that in itself would have been a tough task.

Instead, the situation had spiraled into a three-way nightmare. As Marie and Xin hesitated, they watched in horror as Gary delivered a massive, bone-crunching fist that caught Kai right in the jaw, sending the silver wolf sprawling into the dirt.

Out of everyone in the arena, Kai’s True Alpha form was taking the most punishment. While he was technically faster than both Unzoku and Gary, the hyper-aggressive nature of the Apex form was proving to be his downfall. It stripped away his strategic mind, leaving him as a creature of pure, relentless offense that constantly overextended itself.

It wasn’t the same as when Kai’s Apex form had fought against Unzoku, and perhaps it was Unzoku’s presence that was changing all of this.

“If we don’t go in soon, Kai is going to die!” Marie cried out, her hands glowing with restless energy.

“You know we have to time our skills perfectly for them to have any effect,” Xin countered, her eyes narrowed as she tracked Unzoku’s movements. “Don’t worry. I’ve been watching him. Unzoku the way he is, he does anything that gives him the best chance at winning; he won't be able to resist an opening, he's too greedy!”

Xin’s prediction proved correct. As Gary hoisted both of his massive, flaming hands above his head to deliver a finishing blow to the grounded Kai, Unzoku saw his chance. He lunged forward, driving a condensed fist of red aura directly into Gary’s exposed stomach. The impact forced Gary to double over, breathless, and in the chaos, the feral Kai snapped his jaws shut, biting deep into Gary’s leg.

Unzoku was already winding up for the kill, his hands glowing with a lethal density as he prepared to crush Gary’s skull. Simultaneously, he swung a heavy foot down, aiming to cave in Kai’s chest. If there was one thing they knew about Unzoku, it was his insatiable greed; he wanted to eliminate both of his greatest rivals in a single, decisive moment of vulnerability.

That was the moment the Lunas had been waiting for. They charged.

“NOW!” Xin shouted, her voice echoing with authority as she and Marie opened their mouths in a synchronized, haunting melody.

[Aegis Howl: Emits a magical howl that boosts nearby allies' defenses and reflects a portion of incoming damage at the time of the howl.]

As the sonic wave of the howl shook the very air, Unzoku’s fist connected with Gary. However, instead of the sound of shattering bone, a strange pulse of glowing energy erupted at the point of impact. The force was reflected back with violent intensity, striking Unzoku squarely in the chest. The reflected power was so great that it forced the progenitor to stumble back, his eyes wide with shock.

Because Marie and Xin belonged to different packs, their powers resonated with a unique frequency. By waiting for the exact moment when Unzoku attempted to strike both of them, they created a feedback loop that made it feel as though Unzoku was being hit by the full weight of his own monstrous strength.

Dashing into the center of the crater, the two Lunas placed themselves directly between the two snarling Alphas. But the danger wasn't over. Gary, lost in his Nocturne Apex rage, didn't recognize his Luna. He swung a fierce, fire-wreathed fist toward the two Lunas, caring nothing for who or what was in his way.

“Now!” Xin shouted again, and Marie pivoted instantly to meet the strike.

[Silver Eclipse Barrier: Conjures a shimmering barrier of moonlight that can absorb both physical and energy attacks. Once broken, it explodes, blinding nearby enemies.]

They cast the skill in unison, projecting a dome of swirling silver light. They knew the shield wouldn't hold out against a True Alpha’s strength for long. As Gary’s fist smashed through the barrier like a wrecking ball through glass, the dome shattered into a million shards of incandescent light. The Lunas leaped to the side as a blinding, white flash consumed the plaza, searing the vision of everyone present.

This was their window. Because they hadn't wasted their energy earlier, their timing was flawless. As the blinding light stunned Unzoku and the two Alphas, Xin lunged toward Gary and Marie toward Kai. They made physical contact, acting as a conduit for the violent energy to escape the Alphas' bodies.

When the spots finally cleared from Unzoku’s eyes, he looked at the center of the arena. The four magnificent, mystical creatures that had been radiating world-ending power were gone. In their place stood four exhausted, trembling humans.

“Hahaha... Hahaha!” Unzoku’s laughter was a cold, jagged sound as he loomed over them. He looked at their weakened states, no Apex forms, no transformations, just flesh and bone. “It looks like I’ve won this one after all.”

Stretching out his hands, the red mist began to coil and swirl with renewed vigor. This time, there was no legendary medallion and no monstrous forms to stop him.
