The next morning, Liam made a strong decision and started working on some loose ends and outstanding orders. He had seen a big red flag the day before, so it was best to get out of there while everything was fine and peaceful.
He hired an attendant from the sect just for this purpose. Send him out on some errands and at the same time asked him to spread around that he was going to be leaving for another training session in a nearby world.
Everything was working out smoothly, and Liam was almost ready to leave, but coincidentally, on the morning he was planning to set out, his attendant came back with some unexpected news.
Apparently a new announcement had arrived from the top, and the sect treasure lands were opened, and all of the disciples would be allowed inside in another three months.
This sudden news made Liam frown a little. While he did not want to risk anything for the sake of new treasures or small trinkets, he also knew that this could be a huge opportunity. The golden cauldron elder talked about unlocking the stone tablet, and this could be a key opportunity in doing that.
On the other hand, there was a high chance that he could expose himself by participating in the trial.
"No. I should not be swayed." Liam firmly stood by his decision and was still sticking to his original plan of leaving the sect. There was no point in taking a risk, especially with that lunatic woman around. There was no telling what might happen.
However, right at this moment, the ancient voice of the golden cauldron boomed again. "Brat, you better not run away because of one measly girl. Do you think that such a young girl could possibly sense me if I don't wish to reveal myself? You do not have to be so paranoid."
Liam paused. The cauldron's words made him think. He knew from experience that he always had to be four steps ahead of everyone in order to survive but he did not want to take the senior's words lightly.
This was the first time the cauldron was encouraging him to do something. Perhaps there really was something inside the treasure lands that could help him a lot. It was a soft nudge but the push from the cauldron was still there.
Liam was not a fool to ignore the words of a heaven-breaking treasure. He considered the pros and the cons again and this time the pros weighed a lot more than the cons. It seemed like he had to take this risk after all.
When the attendant returned to the quarters, Liam once again sent him out to spread the information that he wasn't going anywhere. With that, Liam busied himself again in studying the rune and the soulweaver thread.
He spent the next few days in contemplation but he did not make much progress. While he had already hit the roadblock when it came to runes, the soulweaver thread sat like a stone in his soul space unwilling to budge. He couldn't understand it at all.
Liam decided to head to the records tower once again to look for some inspiration. Hopefully, he did not run into that person again. On the way to the tower, he coincidentally came across some people discussing loudly about a runic language class offered by one of the sect main core disciples.
The main core disciples were elders who had been with the sect for decades after decades and perhaps even centuries. These people had immense knowledge when it came to alchemy, many of them already at dao lord rank and dao monarch rank.
The class was also an open class that anyone could attend. The class was probably introduced in link with the treasure lands to prepare the newbies for the event. Liam decided to sit in the class and improve his own knowledge about the runic language.
The lecture hall was a vast, tiered amphitheater carved directly into the side of the mountain, its interior humming with faint formations that preserved every spoken word like an echo within jade.
Liam quietly took a seat near the back, blending in with a cluster of outer disciples and inner sect initiates, all of whom buzzed with excitement and nerves.
Moments later, a ripple of silence swept the room as the core disciple entered. Elder Sun Lei. He looked unassuming, no long beard, no flashy robes. Just a serene man with silver hair tied in a single loop and piercing eyes that seemed filled with wisdom. He didn't announce himself. He didn't need to.
He simply raised a hand and the air shimmered. A glowing rune appeared midair, composed of curves and angular strokes Liam had seen only in the oldest scrolls. "This," Elder Sun began, "is not merely a symbol. It is the crystallized memory of the universe. To read it is to remember what creation has forgotten. The ancient language of every type of energy."
Over the next hour, the elder walked them through foundational components of the ancient runic script, what are some of the basic runes, how runes play a role in magic and activation of spells and how one shouldn't rely solely on the system for these things and have to delve deeper into runic language to remove the system which usually acts like a moderator between man and magic.
Liam sat straighter at those words. Remove the system? That wasn't something he'd ever heard someone say aloud. Everyone else either relied on it blindly or treated it as a god-given layer of reality. But here was a Dao Monarch-level cultivator casually stating that it was merely an interpreter, a middleman between will and the world.
Elder Sun Lei continued, "When you write a rune, you are not drawing. You are invoking. Every stroke is an intent. Every curve, a channel. The system offers ease, yes but ease dulls the edge. Those who walk the path of true runescript will one day sever that leash."
