210: Mother’s counterattack?
210: Mother’s counterattack?
Arthur quickly left the facility before he ran into anybody who would have questioned why he was there at such an hour.
It wasn’t until he was half way through the door of his house that waves of nausea began rising within him, which caused the trip up several sets of stairs to be more challenging than they were prior.
But after briefly conquering the staircase, Arthur found himself in his bedroom once more, and without even mustering the energy to change his clothes, he slumped down on his bed, hoping that it would calm the nausea within him even slightly.
Unfortunately, his wishes had gone unanswered for several minutes as he laid still with his eyes closed and his head spinning, but he eventually fell into a slumber.
The nausous feeling of the world spinning around him had ceased, replaced with the tranquility of floating in a void of nothingness for what seemed like hours.
Within this time, Arthur focused solely on the black figures trying to climb into the Watt’s estate.
He reimagined one of them getting hurt, and his mother trying to teach him about plants.
But when the time came for visions to appear around him, he was unfortunately brought into a familiar looking forest clearing scattered with overgrown ruins and littered with corpses, the sight of black feathers falling from the sky over such a scene gave Arthur a sense of déjà vu.
“Wait…
isn’t this…” Arthur muttered to himself before turning around to see two people wiping the floor against an army of werewolves, a woman wearing a full suit of heavy plate armour and a man wearing a robe and carrying around a wizard’s staff.
“Warren and Merire…” He muttered before looking around once more, finding his old game character on his knees clutching at his throat as though he was choking, moments later his body vanished in a flash of light.
He turned around to see his friends once more, but as he did so, the scenery turned black, and he found himself in the void once more.
And after some more waiting in the void, a picture formed before him, the fence leading into the Watt’s estate.
“I’ve got you now,” Arthur said as his body floated in front of the criminals, he turned to try and get a good look at their faces while there was still ambient light from the street, but unfortunately they had covered their faces.
“Damn…” At the very least he could tell that one of them, the one giving the orders, was of asian descent.
Purely based on what little details he could see and the accent he spoke with while barking orders for the wounded criminal to stand and walk.
Once again his body repeated the motions of floating towards his mother and younger self, and the beginning played out exactly the same way.
“Donovan, is that you?” His mother called out into the forest after she noticed sounds approaching her.
Once the figures came into view, a shocked expression appeared on her face.
“Arthur, go run to Donovan and aunty.
Quickly now.” She ordered baby Arthur, while trying to keep as calm as possible to not scare him.
Arthur who didn’t understand, stood there staring at the strange men who had just appeared before them with a sense of curiosity.
“Who you?” young Arthur asked while pointing to one of the men.
Before anything else could be said, young Arthur was swiftly swept up in his mother’s arms, who began running through the forest.
The criminals ran after her, with various speeds, the slowest being the man with the injured leg.
Her movements through the forest were swift, she had avoided all of the roots that would usually trip up someone hastily running through the forest, which showed how familiar she was to the environment she was in.
A knife flew through the air, embedding itself in her leg, which caused her to almost trip over.
The pain caused her to flinch, and she almost let go of Arthur, but her maternal instincts suddenly kicked in.
But the pain caused her to stop running, as she could no longer concentrate on her footwork.
“Fuck,” His mother cursed, as she placed young Arthur on the ground once more, “Why did these bastards have to pick today to do this.” “I told you to run, Art…” His mother ordered once more as she kneeled down beside him, “Go tell Donovan and aunty that some very bad men showed up, alright?” “Mommy, you’re hurt.” The young Arthur pointed to the blood spilling from her leg.
Arthur’s mother slapped the child’s hand, which caused him to retract it and look at her in confusion before turning to run away with tears in his eyes.
“I’m sorry baby…” she muttered, before ripping the knife out of her own leg.
“Mommy can’t have you see this.” One of the criminals had only just ran out from behind a tree when a knife flew directly towards him, embedding itself in his left eye.
“Holy shit…” Arthur muttered to himself as he watched his mother launch a counterattack.
Unfortunately, at that point Arthur was forced out of the vision once more, but unlike the last time where he felt nothing but rage, he felt the slightest bit satisfied.
‘So she wasn’t murdered helplessly at least.’ He thought to himself, ‘I hope she did more damage to them…
But I guess I’ll need more of this energy to find out.’ Arthur suddenly jerked awake, and although he found himself coated in an uncomfortable cold sweat, he couldn’t muster up the energy to change out of his clothing or have a shower.
“I’ve used both of the engineers, who else can I harvest this power from?” He muttered to himself, before remembering the engineer who was comatose with a similar brain pattern to himself after his own lab incident.
“Right, there was one…
Her name, what was it?” “Oh right, it was Mallory Keres.”
