Chapter 3146 Great and Wondrous Powers

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Effie's Aspect Legacy had granted her a fragment of Life's Domain — which was not a fragment of Earth, interestingly enough — and helped her soul give birth to a lesser domain of her own, the Soul Garden, which was a domain of thriving and prosperity. Then, the fragment of the Divine Domain fused with her Soul Garden, imbuing it with exuberant, mystical vitality.

And when Effie attained Supremacy, her Aspect Abilities growing more potent or evolving, her lesser domain evolved as well. Now, there was nothing lesser about it anymore — it expanded, becoming the size of a continent. It was just that her Domain was located in her Soul Sea, not in the Dream Realm or the waking world.

As for her Supreme power, it was rather straightforward. It shared the augmentation of her Dormant and Awakened Abilities with all her subjects, albeit in a diminished capacity — similar to how her Ascended Ability functioned before for those of her warriors who saw her during a battle.

Now, however, the effect of her Ascended Ability was greatly enhanced for members of her Domain, making it far more profound and potent.

Those who resided and thrived in her Domain would naturally become its subjects. That actually was a great boon for the Human Domain as a whole, since far more people would be able to abandon the dying Earth now — it was as if humanity had suddenly gained a new Great Citadel. It was unclear just how large a population Effie's Domain could sustain yet, but it had to be substantial.

Effie was in a strange position, though, because her Aspect Legacy had suddenly interfered in the natural progression of her Aspect. It was quite possible that there would not have been a Soul Garden without it, and therefore, Effie would have possessed a different source element and would be able to naturally expand her Domain in a different manner.

In fact, it was quite possible that she still could, which would mean that she possessed a dual source element. They suspected that one of them was nurture and prosperity, while the other was warfare — the kind of warfare meant to protect what her Domain nurtured, that was.

So, it could very well be that those warriors who were inspired by her on the battlefield could also become a part of her Domain, even if they did not make their home in her Soul Garden.

That inner realm needed a name better than "the Soul Garden", by the way... and everyone unanimously agreed to forbid Effie from naming it herself. Otherwise, one of the most vital sanctuaries of humanity would have ended up being called something like "the Big Pantry", "Effie's Huge Soul Food Vault", or "Snack Quadrant", which would not be great for morale.

...Sunny thought that Effie's Huge Soul Food Vault was a pretty good name, actually, but for some reason, everyone had ignored his opinion.

Then there were Kai and Jet, whose Supreme powers were the strangest — which was not to say that they were weak. On the contrary, they were quite fearsome. Especially Jet's, whose power was probably the strangest and most frightening of them all.

Kai's source elements seemed to be... songs. Which was a bit confusing, considering that his Domain could not really be called the Song Domain, for obvious reasons. In any case, his Supreme power was a word. Kai was able to leave that word on a living being's soul as a mark... or a brand... thus making them a member of his Domain.

That could be done voluntarily or involuntarily, although Kai, of course, would never resort to the latter — even if it made it easier for him to bend those affected to his will, therefore opening an easier path to great power. The former, meanwhile, was more difficult to accomplish, since it demanded a certain quality from the person being infused with his Word.

Perhaps it was a natural affinity, or maybe simply talent. The point was, different people could draw different benefits from becoming a member of Kai's Domain.

The fundamental benefit they received was being able to share in Kai's Ascended Ability, which allowed him to reshape the world with his voice. Most people were incapable of achieving anything with that power, though — only those with the right predisposition could achieve more, even if it could not compare to the frightening extent of Kai's own Ability.

However, for whatever reason... that only worked when they sang. Simply speaking had no effect whatsoever, and coincidentally, people with musical and artistic inclinations had a better chance of being receptive to the Word and becoming powerful chanters.

Those especially talented could receive other boons, as well. Some chanters inherited enhanced vision from Kai's Awakened Ability. Some could even gain the ability to fly, although there were very few of those.

And to make things even weirder, the statement that most people could not achieve anything while chanting was only partially true. Yes, an average person would not be able to do much after becoming a member of Kai's Domain. But... for whatever reason... that was only true if they chanted alone.

If a large group of people did it together, though, their ineffective efforts fused, producing a powerful effect — the larger the choir, the more pronounced the changes. Sunny could not even find words to describe how bizarre that Domain and that Supreme power were.

He could somewhat accept an image of a talented singer augmenting their cohort with a good song, or disturbing the minds of their enemies with a terrible one.

However, imagining a whole army singing as they went into battle, and becoming stronger for it — that was a bit too much for him. Why couldn't people just get augmentations in the normal, natural way? Like being wrapped in living shadows, wreathed in radiant flames of someone's soul, or staring at the lavish figure of a hundred-meter-tall woman?

Actually, now that Effie was a Supreme, her Transcendent form would probably be taller than a hundred meters. Nightwalker's, Morgan's, and Kai's forms had become far greater, after all. Seishan's ability to transform people had grown more potent, while Jet could now turn into a far more voluminous wraith if she so wished. So, Effie would not be an exception either.

And speaking of Jet...

Her Supreme power was one all of them were still struggling to wrap their heads around. In fact, it remained largely unexplored, since it could only be truly uncovered in battle.

A few things were already clear, though. The most startling of them... was that Jet could not generate spirit essence. And, therefore, she did not really possess a Domain, either.

Instead, her titanic, shattered Soul Core served as a substitute for a Domain, its sheer size adding incredible weight to the tyranny of her Will. The larger it grew, the more potent her spirit became — and it had grown tremendously already.

Jet's Aspect Abilities must have grown more potent or evolved in some ways, as well. But without an army of Nightmare Creatures on the Ivory Island to test them, there was no way to truly find out how.

The only exception was her Transformation Ability, the change in which was evident enough, and her Awakened Ability — the one responsible for her being known as Soul Reaper, since it allowed her to attack the souls of living beings directly.

Now, however, it seemed to have changed in a mysterious way, allowing Jet to attack the spirit of her enemy, as well. Not only was she able to directly weaken the Will of her opponents, but she had become generally resistant to its effects, all but ignoring them at times.

Needless to say, that made her a harrowing enemy for those who had attained a high Rank and relied on the Will to defend themselves and destroy their foes. Just like even Saints were wary of Jet in the era when Supremes were merely a rumor, now, those of the Supreme and Great Ranks... as well as those above... had a reason to be scared of her, as well.

Jet was neither dead nor alive, but she was certainly a natural killer.

As for her source element, it was soul. There was no surprise there, albeit quite a lot of irony.

Observing the six new Sovereigns, Sunny could not help but sigh.

Such great and wondrous powers... but was it going to be enough?

He had a feeling that even if it were, it would be just barely.
