The swarm of insects continued their relentless assault, pounding against the karmic wall again and again.
One month passed, and then two, but the karmic wall was still unscathed.
Luo Chan grew uneasy. “Master, what if we can’t break this barrier?”
The droplet-shaped creature continued to be confident. “Continue.”
“Understood.”
Another month went by.
Inside the Tianyuan, defenses had been prepared long ago. The people were merely awaiting the swarm’s arrival.
Jiang Feng and others had tried sending out attacks from inside the barrier, but the karmic wall blocked not only the Nest civilization, but also the Tianyuan’s attacks. The two sides could both see the other, but they could not exchange any blows.
As for communication, that was simply unnecessary. Dialogue was not necessary for survival in the cosmos; one of the two sides had to be destroyed. That was the law of existence.
Far away, a single green lotus leaf continued to speed towards the Tianyuan. Lu Yin’s eyes were closed as he silently worked through the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm. He was still forty-seven days away.
From a different direction, two Night Pillars were also moving towards the Tianyuan. They were the Sixth and the Seventh Night Pillars.
The truth was that only the Seventh Night Pillar would offer any real support. This was the most that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse could afford to send.
That megaverse had recently fought a great war themselves, and they were afraid that Luo Chan might teleport the entire swarm of insects away from the Tianyuan and to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Thus, they were limited in how much support they could provide.
Sending the Seventh Night Pillar was already going above and beyond.
The Sixth Night Pillar had only been sent to deceive the insects into believing that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse considered the Tianyuan to be of great importance.
The Sixth Night Pillar’s forces had been annihilated in the Allsense Megaverse. Only a few people had survived, and they were too weak to offer any real support.
Luo Chan was constantly keeping an eye on both the Sixth and Seventh Night Pillars.
“Fifty days until reinforcements arrive,” Luo Chan reported.
The droplet-shaped creature considered the situation. “Fifty days… that’s enough. If we fail to break through this karmic barrier within forty days, I’ll take action myself.”
Luo Chan let out a breath of relief. “Thank you, Master.”
Days continued to slip by.
Countless cultivators in the Tianyuan were waiting for the war to break out, but as time continued to drag on, their morale began to wane. Many people had started to believe that the insects might never be able to break through, though none knew what power stood between the two forces.
Even Lu Yuan and the other top experts were uneasy and completely helpless. They had no idea how long the invisible power would continue to hold for.
Jiang Feng returned.
“How is it?”
“I can’t tell,” Jiang Feng replied. He had inspected the invisible barrier, but he could not discern what it was made of.
“If I had known that the bugs wouldn’t be able to break through even after so long, we wouldn’t have mobilized everyone so hastily,” Lu Yuan lamented helplessly.
Hongyan Mavis shook her head. “No one could have known.”
“Don’t worry. A bloody war will sober everyone,” Ancient God stated coldly.
Jiang Feng stared off into the distance, just as uneasy as the others. It was not that his resolve was faltering, but rather because he felt that there was an Immortal among the bugs.
He did not dare to voice his fears, as doing so would shatter all morale.
Regardless of whether an Immortal stood against them, they still needed to fight this war. There was simply no other choice.
As for the final outcome, it was hard to predict. There was no doubt that they could not defeat an Immortal, but where had the invisible barrier come from? Only an Immortal could possibly possess the strength needed to hold back the entire Nest civilization.
That meant that the Tianyuan also had an Immortal on their side, though no one knew who it was or where they might be. Still, since they had taken action, it indicated that they did not wish for the Tianyuan to be destroyed.
War would break out sooner or later.
Another month passed. Still on the green lotus leaf, Lu Yin stopped reinforcing the karmic wall.
He could have maintained it indefinitely, preventing the bugs from ever reaching the Tianyuan, but they would never give up. The Immortal with them would take action sooner or later, and Lu Yin was not capable of stopping it. The moment was drawing near. It was already so close.
Since there was no doubt that the Immortal would take action, Lu Yin simply stopped reinforcing the wall. He needed rest and recover as much as possible.
Without Lu Yin’s support, the karmic wall started to waver within just a few days.
Shan Xiao’s eyes lit up. “Master, we can breach it!”
The droplet creature remained silent.
If the Immortal who had placed the karmic barrier had continued to maintain it, it would have demonstrated that they had a genuine desire to block the Nest civilization’s advancement and also that the Immortal was prepared to confront a peer.
However, once the Immortal stopped maintaining the barrier, it would be possible for them to break through in just a few more days.
What did that mean?
Could the barrier have merely been erected to buy a bit of time?
“Luo Chan.”
“Master.”
“Is there an Immortal among the reinforcements from the other human megaverse?”
Luo Chan firmly answered, “No.”
It had noticed the Night Pillars, but it had not seen the green lotus leaf.
With Lu Yin present, the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm was able to keep the leaf perfectly concealed. Even without that, it was impossible for Luo Chan to observe the entire Aevum Inch.
The bug had only noticed the Night Pillars because the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had deliberately allowed them to be seen. The Night Pillars were making a conspicuous commotion.
The droplet creature stared off into the distance, lost in its thought as it peered at the megaverse before it. The fact that the Immortal had released the barrier indicated that it would not be easy for them to defeat this human megaverse.
The humans that it had observed before had revealed that much.
These humans had an expert who approached the strength of an Immortal.
Humans were clever, and the droplet creature had never underestimated them. However, the humans were certainly underestimating it.
It was not alone.
“Keep attacking.”
“Yes, Master.”
When the lotus leaf was seven days away from the Tianyuan was the same day that the droplet creature took action. A single drop of water left its antenna and made contact with the karmic wall.
The karmic wall collapsed.
The Immortal did not want to wait. If it allowed the swarm of insects to attack the barrier until it was breached, several more days would pass. The insects had already been delayed for half a year. If they waited any longer, real trouble might appear.
It had scanned the Aevum Inch, but there were no human reinforcements anywhere close to them. It had looked far enough into the distance that even an Immortal would need several days to cross over. Since there was no one present within that range, the Nest civilization would have ample time to destroy the megaverse.
The karmic wall collapsed.
The Tianyuan shook. Its karmic connection to the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm left the megaverse quaking, and a violent rumble echoed through the megaverse.
It was a roar that came both from the collapse of the wall, as well as from the distant Lu Yin.
War had arrived.
The endless swarm of insects surged into the Tianyuan. Many of the bugs looked familiar, but there were other bugs within the swarm that were not the standard forms spawned by the Nests. There were endless variations of bugs.
Lances of light shot out as countless cultivators charged into battle.
All wars between civilizations were cruel and ruthless. From the moment of first contact, countless lives vanished.
Mechas exploded. Human lives were fragile, and yet entire swathes of insects were also erased.
During their war against the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the Nest civilization had lost too many Verdant Sages, which left the bugs lacking in peak experts in comparison to the Tianyuan Megaverse.
The bugs were immediately suppressed.
Luo Chan’s ability might be terrifying, but it was not even close to the proper time to reveal it. Teleportation was best used to strangle humanity’s elites. If the ability was used too soon and was noticed, it would become far, far less effective.
As for the deaths of the countless insects, none of them mattered.
As long as there were Nests, the number of lesser insects could be replenished very quickly.
What was necessary was to focus on eliminating specific targets.
The megaverse seemed to have no shortage of powerful humans. After cutting down one cultivator after another, Luo Chan focused on one man: Lu Yuan. He was an imposing Ortuser.
However, a mere Origin-realm expert could not be considered a true powerhouse in Luo Chan’s eyes. Lu Yuan was nothing more than a slightly more powerful combatant.
Just die.
Luo Chan vanished, slipping through the void as it shot straight at Lu Yuan.
As a creature who had reached the peak of power beneath the Immortal realm, Luo Chan could easily erase Lu Yuan.
Suddenly, the bug slammed into something right before it reached Lu Yuan. The impact left Luo Chan seeing stars. It was a familiar sensation; was it the same unseen power from before?
Luo Chan shook itself and looked forward.
Lu Yuan stared at Luo Chan in a daze, stunned and terrified by its sudden appearance. Had he almost died?
Far away, Lu Yin’s expression grew dark. Luo Chan had actually targeted Ancestor Lu Yuan. If Lu Yin had not been watching, his ancestor would have surely died.
The Tianyuan had no knowledge of Luo Chan. If it was left free to act, it could cause horrifying casualties.
Lu Yin inhaled deeply, understanding that it was still impossible for him to rest.
While he could not attack Luo Chan, he could use karmic walls to hinder it and prevent human experts from being slaughtered.
Lu Yin proceeded to once again manipulate the karmic wall, allowing barriers to envelop one human powerhouse after another.
He could not protect everyone, but he would protect as many as possible.
Elsewhere, the Lost Clan’s Great Elder Shan Gu was directing a furious glare at a specific individual: Shan Xiao.
She smiled at the old man. “So you really are here. You certainly fled far, Shan Gu.”
“Traitor, today I will see you dead!” Shan Gu roared. Behind him, members of the Lost Clan drew their cards. They cared nothing about any of the other insects; their eyes only saw Shan Xiao.
She just shrugged. “Why the hatred? I’m not a traitor.”
She hugged her doll as her eyes shifted about. The blue orbs were filled with killing intent. “I was always an insect.”
Shan Gu raised his hand to reveal a card over his palm; it was the seven-star Primeval card, Aurora.
The Lost Clan had once controlled three seven-star Immemorial cards: Heavenly King, Evernight, and Aurora.
Lu Yin had Enhanced the Heavenly King card for Shan Gu in order to lure out the Boundary Guardians, but the battle in the Mirari Realm had rendered Heavenly King unusable. So, after the battle at the Immemorial Citadel, Lu Yin had also Enhanced Aurora to the seven-star Primeval level. Even if Shan Gu could never break through to the Origin realm, he would still possess the combat strength of an Ortuser.
A seven-star Primeval card could be considered a tool at the Origin realm, or even a peak Dukkhan.
“Aurora? It’s been a long time since I last saw that. Its previous owner died at my hand.” Shan Xiao offered a faint smile while raising up her own spinning card. “You remember this, don’t you, Shan Gu? The Emperor’s card, which you will never obtain.
“Emperor's Gaze: ‘All is beneath me. My gaze can never be directly met.’”
The card rose up as a hazy figure slowly emerged from it. They were wearing imperial robes and radiated a majesty that was beyond compare. The figure’s mere presence dominated the entire universe.
The moment the figure appeared, it naturally became the center of the battlefield.
Shan Gu’s eyes narrowed, and he shouted, “Scatter!”
His own card, Aurora, fired a beam straight at the figure.
On a basic level, the Lost Clan’s cards wanted to pull their opponents into a pocket space where they could be killed by the card’s traps.
However, after cards reached a certain level, the inner and outer worlds would be interchanged. At that point, traps were no longer confined to the card’s pocket space.
