After Lu Yin's breakthrough, he had quickly calculated more layers of the Mirrorlight Art to the point where he could now clearly see across a distance of 200 years’ travel. That was nearly three times farther than before, and it covered an extremely vast distance. If he could deduce more layers until he saw another 100 years’ travel further, he would be able to see Crimson Starshade from the Trio.
He did not stop because he wanted to, but rather because the calculations at that level required far too much energy. Deducing the layers to see a distance of 200 years’ travel had already exhausted Lu Yin.
Thinking of the Divine Realm, he decided to go take a look.
During the latest war against the Trio, the Divine King had fled, just like Ni Bieluo. Lu Yin had not been in a hurry to look for the creature, partially because he did not know how to face the Divine King.
Fight? That was impossible.
Not fight? Lu Yin was also unwilling to accept that. Thus, the matter had been delayed.
With the Mirrorlight Art helping him see a distance of 200 years’ travel, he could observe the Divine King, while the Divine King would not be able to see him. That made things much more convenient.
Repeatedly teleporting over, Lu Yin soon reached 200 years’ travel away from the Divine Realm. From there, he looked over.
Hm? It’s gone?
Lu Yin was surprised. He rubbed his eyes and teleported closer. He should only be a distance of about 100 years’ travel from the civilization, but as he looked around carefully, he found that the Divine Realm really was gone.
Had the Divine Realm actually vanished?
He was absolutely not in the wrong place. This was where the Divine Realm had been before. The broken Mother Tree was still there, and yet all of the beings of the Divine Realm were gone.
Lu Yin directly teleported into the megaverse. He stood above the Mother Tree and looked around. There was not a single being from the Divine Realm here. The megaverse was only inhabited by some random creatures now.
He continued to examine one megaverse after another. All of them were living the same as usual, with no changes to be seen. The creatures inhabiting those places still lived according to the laws assigned to them by the beings of the Divine Realm. Clearly, they did not know that the beings they believed to be gods had already left.
The Divine Realm had gained control of quite a few megaverses, and there were traces that he could follow, so there was no need to deliberately search for them.
Lu Yin looked through each megaverse, but sure enough, he failed to find even a single being from the Divine Realm.
Had the entire civilization left?
Not much time had passed since the war against the Human Trio. For the Divine King to return to the Divine Realm since then, it must have used a gate. For every being from the entire Divine Realm to leave, could the entire civilization have relied on Obscura’s gates?
Wang Wen could not have exterminated the Divine Realm. He could not possibly endure the increase to his karmic chain, and it was also impossible for there to be no evidence of at all of an extermination. The only explanation was that the Divine Realm had run away on its own.
With Wang Wen's help.
What condition had Wang Wen promised the Divine King in exchange for him to attack human civilization?
If Lu Yin wanted that answer, he could only go to Wang Wen.
However, that answer was not even important. The Divine Realm had fled, and there were no other fishing civilizations within a radius of 1,000 years’ travel of the Trio. Unless some creature deliberately schemed against humanity, the Trio would most likely not face an unexpected civilization war anytime soon.
The situation could be considered stable for the moment.
Lu Yin’s original purpose in traveling here had been to issue a warning to the Divine Realm. The current outcome was really the best one possible.
Unfortunately, the grudge created by the Divine King attacking his human civilization had not been avenged.
Lu Yin would deal with it later, if a chance arose.
Before leaving the region previously belonging to the Divine Realm, Lu Yin returned to the various megaverses and absorbed the motes of green light from their Mother Trees. After that, he searched for Joy City to confirm where it was heading. Only after three years passed did Lu Yin return to the Trio.
He spent three years observing Joy City, confirming that the Abyss had no intention of changing direction. It was not currently headed in the direction of the Trio and instead seemed to be wandering about aimlessly.
After the latest battle, Joy City definitely needed some time to recover.
Lu Yin was also looking for an opportunity for his skeleton clone to return to Joy City. It was not yet time.
Just as he returned to the Tianyuan, he discovered a figure quietly sitting on the mountain behind the Heavens Sect, gently tapping the stone table with his fingers while staring up at the stars.
Lu Yin emerged from the void, approached the stone table, and then sat down.
The person sitting there turned his head to smile at Lu Yin. “Your Royal Chesspiece, we meet again. You aren’t going to be unwelcoming, are you?”
Lu Yin calmly studied the person across from him. Sure enough, Wang Wen was paying Lu Yin a visit. “I said before that you can come whenever you want to. You are welcome at any time.”
Wang Wen smiled and nodded. “But Miss Long Xi doesn’t seem to welcome me very much. I’ve sat here for a year, and she hasn’t brewed me tea even once.”
Lu Yin's tone remained indifferent. “That is on her.”
He then spoke up, allowing his voice to travel beyond the mountain, “Brew some tea for Wang Wen.”
Long Xi heard Lu Yin's voice and let out a breath of relief. She then proceeded to silently brew some tea.
Wang Wen smiled brightly. “Many thanks. Home remains the most comfortable place.”
Lu Yin said nothing and just waited quietly.
Before long, the tea arrived, and Long Xi calmly poured two cups for the men.
Lu Yin picked up his teacup while looking at Wang Wen. He shrugged and also picked up his teacup. “Your Royal Chesspiece, I offer you a toast.”
Lu Yin smirked, but he did not drink from his cup. “There isn’t any special seasoning in this tea, right?”
Wang Wen blinked and looked down at his own cup.
Long Xi replied, “There is none in the tea, but there is some in the cup.”
Wang Wen was rendered speechless. He silently put his teacup down.
Lu Yin looked over at him. “Come on, take a sip. You just toasted me, and yet you won’t take a drink yourself?”
Wang Wen smiled. “I am not drinking.”
“So timid? There is nothing in this universe that can kill you with poison.”
“But there are things that can disgust me.” After that comment, Wang Wen looked over at Long Xi and directed an even brighter smile towards her. “Miss Long Xi, just tell me what you added. I won’t drink it regardless.”
Long Xi was revolted. She refused to answer and instead turned to leave.
Wang Wen sighed. “I am no longer liked by the people at home. How troubling. I always feel like I lose so much.”
“You never truly had it,” Lu Yin retorted.
Wang Wen’s smile returned as he looked at Lu Yin. “This is my first time speaking to you like this. Thinking back, how long have we known each other?”
Lu Yin took another sip of tea. “Almost 4,000 years.”
Wang Wen's eyes grew nostalgic. “4,000 years? That’s such a short time, so why does it feel so long to me? It feels even longer than the entire history of the Tianyuan’s development.
“From the birth of the Heavens Sect, to its glory and decline… Far too many things happened during that era as well, yet they never elicited this sort of feeling. During this past year, I kept thinking, and the answer I found is you.”
At this point, he stared at Lu Yin. “Your Royal Chesspiece, your appearance has caused everything to become different. Time accelerated, and things have become interesting. Schemes have become strange and unpredictable, with things developing in a direction that even I may not be able to see clearly.”
Lu Yin lowered his cup. “You think too highly of me. From beginning to end, I was a toy in the palm of your hand.”
Wang Wen laughed despite himself. “Not really. I never expected you to defeat Yong Heng here in the Tianyuan, nor did I expect you to surpass Spirit Nidus and rise, step by step, in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. I was even more surprised when you actually managed to obtain the ability to teleport and the strength to kill beings like Ming Yu as an Aberrant. You have brought me far too many surprises.
“But none of that is important. What matters most is that you yourself have given me unexpected joy.”
Lu Yin’s eyebrows shot up. “Joy?”
“Yes. It’s like raising a docile little house cat that understands nothing. You have to teach it bit by bit and guide it bit by bit to turn that house cat into a tiger, and then into an even greater beast. However, the beast happens to possess extraordinary intelligence and always surpasses your expectations.
“The thread seems broken, yet not quite broken. No one can say when the other end of that thread might overturn heaven and earth and turn the tables on the one who owns it. That thrill is more exciting than any game. That is why the time I’ve spent with you has felt both long and fleeting.”
Lu Yin set an arm on the stone table, his fingers slowly turning his teacup. “Should I feel honored to hear you say that?”
Wang Wen smiled, picked up his own teacup, and took a sip. “You should.”
As soon as he spoke, he stared at his cup in a daze. He had drunk from it. In a moment of happiness, he had not even noticed. Or perhaps it was due to old habits.
He had drunk it.
He looked back up at Lu Yin. “Please ask Miss Long Xi what exactly she added to this teacup.”
Lu Yin shouted, “What did you add to the teacup?”
Long Xi's voice came from a great distance. “Fertilizer.”
“What kind of fertilizer?” Lu Yin shouted again.
“Flower fertilizer. I smeared a little inside the cup.”
Lu Yin looked at Wang Wen. “Flower fertilizer.”
Wang Wen was stunned. “I heard…”
Lu Yin grunted and picked up his own cup. “I offer you a toast.”
Wang Wen stared at Lu Yin for a long moment. “I originally wanted to bury everything—Death's Dominion, the Divine King, Ni Bieluo, Hong Xia, and Gao Tian. It was a lineup that showed adequate respect for the Human Trio, was it not?”
“It did.”
“And yet it failed. I don’t know what to say. Logically, it should have been a success.”
“You are the ancestor of the Wang family, and you are also human. Why do you need to destroy humanity?”
Wang Wen replied, “The human that I am is different from the human that you know. How should I put it? In the Aevum Inch, civilizations are not the only things that can be inherited.”
Lu Yin was stunned. He stared at Wang Wen. “What does that mean?”
Wang Wen shrugged. “In short, just don’t treat me as a human. I am me, while humans are humans.”
“If I get the chance, I will definitely capture you and examine your karma clearly, no matter how long it takes,” Lu Yin declared.
Wang Wen was pleased with that response. “Good! I very much look forward to that day. But for now, Your Royal Chesspiece, you are not even qualified to die with me.”
Lu Yin knew that, when Gao Tian had been at its peak, the Plume Immortal had still been beaten so miserably by Wang Wen that it had not even dared to return home. In the end, it had been used by Wang Wen to attack the Trio. One could only imagine how badly the bird’s fight against Wang Wen had traumatized it. For even Gao Tian to suffer so badly, there was no need to mention Lu Yin.
He had a very clear understanding of his own current strength. Even if he risked his life, he could not defeat Wang Wen.
“Enough small talk. I came here this time to tell you that Ni Bieluo has refused to join Obscura. Your Royal Chesspiece, you’ve won this round,” Wang Wen announced in a careless tone.
Both men were intelligent people, and Lu Yin would not deny the insinuation. “It’s still too early to say that I have won.”
“That idiot Hong Xia is clearly highly capable, and yet he is always being used by others. First, it was me, and now it’s you. That is why sometimes those who play the game with strength cannot truly compare to those who play with brains,” Wang Wen replied.
“He’s simply recognized the current situation.”
“Wrong. He is becoming less and less cognizant of the situation. That is frightening. One doesn’t fear competing with intelligent people, but rather being in the company of fools.”
“The Divine Realm has disappeared.” Lu Yin did not want to continue lingering on the topic of Hong Xia. Seeking out Hong Xia had been Master Qing Cao's idea. While Lu Yin did not fear Wang Wen doing anything to him personally, he was worried that Wang Wen might go after Master Qing Cao or the others.
Wang Wen stated, “I granted them a path.”
“What path?”
“A path to leave.”
“Leave where?”
Wang Wen met Lu Yin’s gaze. “This region, of course.”
Lu Yin's expression grew solemn. “This ‘bough?’”
Wang Wen gave a slow nod. “You could describe it that way.”
As long as there was a tree, it would have boughs and branches. Given the vastness of something like the Aevum Inch, forks in the boughs could diverge into extraordinary distances. Some distances might be difficult for even Immortals to traverse.
