"The. Next. Fertilization. Event. Will. Commence. Soon," a female arakai clicked, kneeling before a bare Divine Mother. "We. Have. Gathered. The. Most. Meritorious. Males. In. The. Fallen. Rain. Cell."
Divine Mother o-ooooo glanced at the female servant, before nodding, before glancing around at the male corpses around her. "Clean. Up. All. Of. These. Bodies."
Male reproduction in the arakai species was a lethal event. It usually came with the death of the males involved. Those that did survive were crippled. Reproduction was fundamentally a more brutal and ruthless event in arakai society. The arakai didn’t have DNA-like blueprints that could be contained in each cell, but rather their blueprint stretched across their bodies across a fine web of interconnective tissue that needed to be destroyed in the process of passing that information on during the fertilization event.
O-ooooo took her responsibilities as a progenitor of generations much more seriously than most of her sisters, who treated is a side job. This was especially the case when they were fighting two major wars and a minor conflict that had collectively led to the loss of a lot of lives.
She shook her head, gazing out the window at the night sky of the Colton Star System. "My. Other. Sisters. Are. Enamoured. With. The. ’Divine’. Part. Of. Divine. Mothers. Rather. Than. The. Mother. Part."
Their fertility rates were lower because they only underwent fertilization intermittently, unlike o-ooooo, who ensured that she reproduced all the time. Her sisters were far too consumed with the power that came with being a Divine Mother to pay too much attention to their duties.
Thankfully, the death of three Divine Mothers and the escalating death toll from the war had whipped some of them into taking their duties more seriously. But that was not enough, as far as she was concerned. If their civilization was to expand, they needed the numbers. But the birthrates were dependent on how much the Divine Mothers reproduced and how many Divine Mothers they could spawn.
The birth of a Divine Mother was an astronomically unlikely event. There were an infinite number of possibilities a mind could be configured. One’s mind web had to be configured such that it would lead to phenomenological uniformity from the day they were born. They were most likely to emerge from Divine Mothers. She wished her other sisters would take their reproductive duties more seriously.
It was also why she had been for the complete annihilation of the impertinent, insolent civilization that dared to kill three of her sisters. The sheer amount of damage that that one Administrator had inflicted upon her civilization was incalculable. Nothing short of complete destruction after they extracted the secret of his ability to negate the consequences of the Verse was a fitting punishment.
That was why she had supported the destructive war against the humans. It was also why she regrettably supported the war against the aquadites, because she had thought they were the ones responsible. And she had supported the conflict against the dessandrites because the arakai had gathered enough power at the time.
Now, however, they were being squeezed by a conflict on three ends. What surprised her was that despite being equipped quite generously against the civilization that they were invading, a Web of War led by a Divine Mother had failed to establish a bridgehead and had even suffered damage, based on the reports that she had read.
She shook her head.
’An utter disgrace.’
If she had been the one to fight the enemy Administrator, she was confident that she could take him down. His prior victories were obviously ambushes. A weakling who couldn’t fight head-on stood no chance against her, despite the fact that she wasn’t primarily a warrior.
RUMBLE
She frowned as she sensed a wormhole event right outside her planet. What was shocking to her was that wormhole events in this star system should have been impossible. At the level that the arakai civilization operated at, they exerted absolute control over their stars and systems.
Every major system was equipped with powerful interdiction arrays that prevented unauthorized superluminal travel or wormholes from appearing in the star system. In order to ensure that their own travel was not suppressed, they had developed hyperdimensional superluminal web networks comprising channels where even ordinary spaceships could travel at FTL speeds, thereby ensuring that their interdiction methods didn’t prevent unauthorized entry.
Of course, there were still exceptions made. Usually for heavyweight carrier ships that carried sensitive cargo or VIP guests. Though she had made sure to cancel all such events because she was undergoing a fertilization event. Ultimately, it didn’t matter because the interdiction array would undoubtedly prevent anybody from entering the capital system of her Fallen Rain Cell without her authorization.
BEEP BEEP BEEP!
The emergency alarm rang as she received several notifications from the Colton Patrol Web. The wormhole wasn’t stopping despite the interdiction array suppressing it. The Colton Patrol Web confirmed that this wormhole didn’t have the signature of arakaian web technology.
In other words, this wasn’t a mishap.
This was an invasion from an alien entity.
She immediately shot to her feet, covering her bare body with webs, for both safety and modesty. Her six arachnid eyes immediately sharpened as her senses spread. She looked up in the direction of the wormhole outside the planet’s gravitational field, just managing to catch it stabilizing.
It didn’t expand large enough to allow spaceships or spacecrafts.
Instead, a single individual entered from the wormhole.
Her expression froze with shock as she beheld the appearance of the entity that emerged. Covered in a halo of fractal geometries of matter-energy, his appearance was like that of a being from a higher dimension. His body was translucent underneath his classic multi-layered white Martial attire. His ethereal eyes gazed down at Planet Nest VII.
The planet itself was such an engineered marvel that it was more artificial than organic, with the crust being hollowed out save for a web-like pillar network holding up the surface.
Yet, his gaze didn’t fall upon the arakaian engineering.
Instead, it fell upon one and only one individual.
The shocked Divine Mother who stared at him in horror within the depths of her orgy fortress.
