Rui’s eyebrows rose at her words. "...the second spark?"

She nodded. "Do you recall what I told you about the Key several months ago?"

Immediately, he schooled his expression, hiding the spike in his nervousness from the Divine Mother. Thankfully, he had grown accustomed to this.

He simply nodded. "I recall. I believe that it was a rather dubious potential clue of the possibility of the Key to the Universalis Mensis appearing in our star strand."

"Correct, it was rather dubious, but even the faintest clue of the Key is worth the attention of other advanced civilizations beyond our own," she replied with a serious, yet inhuman tone of voice. "They had already begun preparing for a thorough scan of our galaxy, looking for the Key."

It took years, sometimes even decades, for advanced civilizations that had conquered billions of stars to make a major move. These civilizations were so unfathomably vast and unwieldy that even a single step could take a decade to execute.

"This time, however, they intend to be quicker about it," the Divine Mother spoke seriously. "They have set aside forces that will enter our star strand and begin scouring every star until they find the Key."

Those words made Rui recall the deal he had made with the laminar integuments: that they would help him in the war as he pleased with some of their forces as long as he helped them search for the Key. He had avoided enlisting their aid because he was terrified that allowing them to enter human civilization would allow them to detect the anomalies that Ria had caused with infected world hunting.

The laminar integuments had been quite determined to find the Key. However, Rui figured that they were not the only ones. He knew of other advanced civilizations around the Milky Way through the scant amount of information that the arakai had shared with them.

"How much time do we have?"

"...originally, perhaps a few more years," she replied, before her expression tightened. "But the advanced civilizations have not failed to notice your Administrative impunity. And they won’t fail to notice the arakai possessing it, or the dessandrites and the aquadites, for that matter. This is another reason for them to intervene. Both the Key and Administrative impunity are very attractive to the forces of the Milky Way. So much so that they may even turn their eyes away from the galactic core and set their vision upon our star strand."

The very thought of that was quite terrifying on the face of it. With two treasures in the Orion Star Strand, it was possible that had become even more attractive to the forces of the Milky Way than the galactic core.

The core of the galaxy was where all of the star strands, except for the Orion Star Strand, met. It was a strategic location that allowed one to access all territories of the Milky Way without having to create an extremely expensive gate for transit between star strands. It was one of the reasons that there was major war between civilizations at the core, as he understood it.

But as powerful as it was as a strategic location, could it really compare to the value of the Key and of Transcendent impunity?

"I believe that several civilizations are on the verge of setting foot in our star strand," she continued in a serious voice as the air grew a tinge tenser. "Once they establish a stable bridgehead, they will deploy a truly enormous number of forces to comb this galaxy for the Key and to acquire the secret to Transcendent impunity for when the time comes. And when that time comes, I believe that we will all have to put aside our differences and fight together, since we are all in the same boat."

Rui understood what the Divine Mother was trying to achieve with her carefully chosen words. She was trying to create a common threat that would bind all of them together and force them to put aside their differences. Indeed, nothing united people like a common enemy, and she understood that well.

Rui didn’t get the sense that she was making stuff up either. She was certainly able and willing to back up her words of an impending incursion from the rest of the galaxy into their star strand if he demanded evidence. On top of that, this matched what the Tendril of Light had told him as well, so he knew it was likely correct.

"Advanced civilizations beyond the Orion star strand, huh," Rui muttered as he recalled some of the information that he had learned from the laminar integument and information that there had gathered as they expanded outwards.

They were already familiar with some of the most advanced civilizations of the Milky Way, but the information that he possessed on them was not expansive. All he knew was that many of these civilization dominated all or much of their star strands, which were much larger than the puny of Orion star strand. Their civilization had come into contact with distant, remote, and insulated outposts of these civilization and had managed to wipe them out, and thankfully, it seemed that the main civilizations couldn’t be bothered with such minute losses, so they had never invited retaliation.

She nodded at his words. "For instance, my intelligence network has detected a convoy of gargantians who have gathered in a star system that is at the very edge of the star strand they occupy, closest to our Orion star strand. We have detected that BABEL has mobilized a large fleet of warships that are preparing for a distant wormhole jump. And the astralites are even less subtle about their desire to invade our star strand. This has alarmed not only us, but other civilizations in our star strand."

He heaved a deep breath. "You have made your point, so get to what you’re driving at. I do not believe that you would share this with me simply to warn me."

She clicked with appreciation. "You are correct. I didn’t bring this up simply to warn you. Once I have consolidated control over my civilization, I intend to make peace with the dessandrites, the aquadites, and you humans and... I intend to hold an Orion Star Strand Summit to invite all major civilizations in our star strand to discuss the impending incursions into our strand of stars."
