The Divine Mother shook her head at Rui’s question. "Not at all. I specialize in webs of information, so I’m more attuned to this technique than most of my other sisters. My general skill level is also much higher.
Rui had to admit that he was impressed with how quickly she created a clone of herself on the very first go. Not even he had got it done that quickly the first time around. When he broke through to Transcendence, he relied on an existing clone that he simply tinkered to match his current body.
What he found to be especially interesting was that the clone’s body contained the same Legislated laws that her existing body possessed. Which meant that she carried much more Legislated mass in her body than would otherwise appear to be the case on the surface.
The Web Conqueror, the leader of the War Faction, had also had an extremely Legislated body, which did cause him to wonder— "Do all Divine Mothers above a certain level choose to Legislate their bodies?"
"Rather, those who choose to Legislate their bodies even at the price of Administration end up being Divine Mothers above a certain level," Divine Mother ooo—o- remarked as she transferred a copy of her consciousness to the clone’s body in a rather elegant manner.
As a Divine Mother who specialized in webs of information, she was much smoother with the information transfer than Rui was. She used her Verse much more elegantly than he did for informational matters.
"Are you really going to do this in front of me?" He raised an eyebrow. "This is quite the sensitive process, you know?"
"I do not believe that you would have any reason to try and sabotage me at this juncture," she replied with a trusting tone of voice. "After all, you need me to keep the War Faction in check. Trying to kill me here would be detrimental to your goals, would it not?"
She was right, of course, but they were still members of a different species and leaders of two different civilizations. Rui would never trust him if he were in her spot; he would simply not have enough reason to.
He suspected, however, that this was part of a ploy to essentially build a closer relationship with the humans. After all, the moment she and her faction mastered the method to Transcendent impunity, she would easily be able to suppress the weakened War Faction. If she played her cards well, she would be able to become a sovereign of the Arakai Web Civilization.
At that time, she would clearly want to continue maintaining a good relationship with the humans. His civilization was a treasure trove, and she knew it. Everybody did. Not only had they come up with Transcendent impunity, but they also had the miracles of Paths, which allowed an extraordinarily high level of infantry power, which allowed the humans to keep up with the War of Web that the arakai had deployed. On top of that, they also grew at truly astonishing rates and had an abnormally high proportion of Transcendents relative to their population.
He realized that she was probably willing to do literally anything to build a deeper bond with human civilization, even if it meant taking risks in order to show that she trusted him. Just as with the leader of the War Faction, Rui realized that he was dealing with an extremely shrewd individual.
He also realized that she was the ultimate winner out of this entire conflict. She had achieved her goal of acquiring the method for Transcendent impunity through pure trade, just as she had hoped. She had weakened her political opponents greatly, which would undoubtedly allow her to seize control of her civilization, and she would likely be able to end all three wars that she was partaking in.
He watched as she transferred her consciousness from one vessel to another, deleting the copy of it in her original vessel after deactivating her Verse. Her vessel opened its six eyes as she gazed at her hands with a stunned expression. "This... it truly works."
"It certainly does," Rui replied. "With this, you can leverage the power of your Verse for as long as you have phenomenological stamina."
Those words clearly brought her great joy and enthusiasm. No matter what, every Transcendent would undoubtedly be extremely ecstatic at being able to wield their power without the price, even if they weren’t prolific users of their Verses.
"This is a game changer, but... in a way it has also made life more dangerous for Administrators," she mused, falling into thought. "In the past, we simply served as passive pressure and stayed away from the battlefield in order to avoid the price. But with the price gone, we are going to be more active."
She turned towards him with a knowing look. "I imagine that you’re quite happy about that."
He would be lying if he said a part of him wasn’t happy about that. He disliked all of these Transcendents who were too cowardly to deploy their Verses in fear of disappearing. A part of him also disdained them for not being able to figure out the secret to being able to overcome the price.
It wasn’t even that hard as far as he was concerned, but somehow he was the first one to get it.
It appeared that the Divine Mother understood him even better than he expected. If not for the threat that it posed to his civilization, he would be much more openly enthusiastic about the other civilizations learning about the price. It was difficult to enjoy battles when there was more than his own life that was at stake. He definitely didn’t enjoy the battle in the Solar System.
"It’s only a matter of time before the method spreads to the rest of the star strand," Rui remarked. "Since three major civilizations will be in possession of this knowledge, the other civilizations will eventually figure it out."
She shook her head. "Not just the entire star strand, but the entire galaxy will eventually get its hands on the method. My intelligence networks outside the Orion Star Strand have gathered intel on some concerning movements from advanced civilizations beyond our star strand... this is the second spark that has drawn unsavory eyes to our little strand of stars. I fear it will birth a conflagration that will swallow us all."
