Chapter 909

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

“Tank….”

Rensia’s lips trembled as she repeated the words about breaking the tank.

‘Did he remember what I said?’

When she had first explained the situation here to Kayden, she had said Montiro was a filthy tank, and she was like an oyster that purified it. Now, he was declaring that he would shatter that tank, as if he still remembered.

‘My chest hurts….’

Her heart ached with gratitude that Kayden and his companions had come back to save her and Montiro.

She was thankful—so thankful she wanted to pour out her very soul in thanks.

But to save Kayden’s life, she could not accept his goodwill.

“Phew….”

Suppressing the pain gnawing at her chest, Rensia looked at Raon.

“There’s something I didn’t tell you.”

She decided to speak the words she had deliberately kept hidden to avoid causing trouble.

“The power that rules Montiro is…”

With her fists clenched tight, she forced her parched lips open.

“The Black Tower of the Five Demons. One of the ten monsters that dominate this continent. You can’t win unless you’re on their level.”

Her eyes dimmed with resignation as she nodded.

“For now, it’s safe. Pretend you’re here for sightseeing, then get out of here as quickly as you can—and never come back.”

She smiled her usual doll-like smile, claiming she would be fine.

“The Black Tower of the Five Demons.”

Raon calmly spoke the name.

“I knew from the start the Black Tower was here.”

Now that he had grasped the entire mana flow of the area, he blocked off his presence so no one would notice, smiling faintly.

“What?”

Rensia’s eyes widened.

“How…?”

“They’re the only ones capable of something this vile.”

Raon picked up a piece of black trash from the clean sand, tilting his chin toward it.

“Lord Kayden, just who are you…?”

Rensia stared blankly at him, unable to comprehend.

“There’s something I didn’t tell you, either.”

Raon motioned for her to sit beside him.

“Mm…”

Rensia held her waist with a trembling hand and slowly sat down next to him.

“My name is Raon Zieghart. Palace Lord of the Light Wind Palace.”

He looked into her quivering eyes with a faint smile.

“We’re stronger than the Black Tower.” (T/N: Let’s fking goooo!)

Raon brought the bewildered Rensia into the lodging he had reserved in advance.

“Palace Lord of the Light Wind Palace….”

Even now, Rensia muttered the title in disbelief.

“You’ve heard of it?”

Raon gestured for her to sit.

“O-of course….”

Holding her trembling wrist, she nodded.

“My siblings know, too.”

There wasn’t a person alive who didn’t know—the man who had slain two ancient dragons, repelled demons, and recently cut down Demonblade Dreg of the Five Divine Pillars, the greatest genius of the age who had reached transcendence in his twenties.

“So you’re that Rensia.”

Martha walked up to Rensia and patted her head.

“You held out well. It must’ve been so hard….”

She bit her lip, perhaps recalling her own past through Rensia.

“Mm. Good girl….”

Runaan quietly moved beside Rensia.

“And admirable….”

It seemed she, too, remembered her childhood, when her soul had been bound by Syria, and gently embraced Rensia.

“You recognized our Palace Lord, but what about me?”

Dorian grinned and nodded.

“Sir Kevin? Did you gain that much weight in such a short time?”

Rensia blinked at the now-chubby Dorian.

“He’s always like that—pay it no mind.”

Burren shook his head and went down on one knee in front of Rensia.

“I’m impressed. In a hopeless situation, you still thought of others first and looked after your siblings. You’re far greater than we are.”

He bowed his head sincerely.

“I feel the same.”

Mark Gorton smiled warmly.

“I’d have given up long ago. You have the makings of a warrior.”

“These people are….”

“My comrades.”

Raon smiled, saying they were comrades, not subordinates.

“And this isn’t all of us. There are plenty more outside.”

They were already preparing to erase the Black Tower.

“Really….”

Clear drops formed at the corners of Rensia’s eyes. She hadn’t cried when they left, but now tears trickled down her cheeks.

“You can really destroy the Black Tower? So everyone can live freely?”

She clasped her hands, saying that was all she wished for.

“Yes. I can promise that.”

Raon nodded.

“But there’s something you need to do.”

“Something I need to do?”

Her tearful eyes opened wider.

“The black heart implanted in you serves as a dimensional gate that sends the demonic and deathly energy from Montiro to the Black Tower. We plan to trace that flow in reverse to open a path to the Black Tower.”

He explained the situation so far, letting out a short breath.

“Thanks to many people’s efforts, the magic is complete—but there’s one problem.”

“What problem…?”

“We need the core of the barrier connected to the Black Tower. Without it, we can’t pinpoint its location or open the dimension.”

Chamber and the magicians of Balkan had devised a spell to open the dimension hiding the Black Tower, but to activate it, they needed something currently linked to the Black Tower. The only such thing available was the black heart in Rensia’s body.

“…That core is the black heart inside me.”

She grasped it immediately and nodded.

“Can you do it?”

“I…”

She forced strength into her trembling hands and lifted her gaze.

“What do I have to do?”

“One hour.”

Raon raised a finger.

“You just have to stay at the center of the barrier for an hour while the magic runs. But…”

He turned his gaze away with a sigh.

“You’ll have to keep the black heart protruding the whole time. It’ll be very painful, and the mana flow forming the magic circle will probably make it worse.”

It would hurt her, but this was the only way to draw out the Black Tower.

“….”

She lowered her head without answering immediately.

‘Can I do it?’

Keeping the black heart outside was more painful than most could imagine. Now she had to endure an even greater agony for an hour. Cold sweat slid down her back.

‘But….’

This might be the last chance.

She had been bound by the Black Tower’s chains since birth. She had suffered enough that dying now wouldn’t matter, but she wanted her young siblings to live truly happy lives.

‘Right. I endured that surgery, too.’

Felix had cut her chest open without anesthesia to reimplant the black heart. Compared to that, an hour was nothing.

“I can do it.”

She raised her head, her resolve set.

“If I could endure having my chest cut open by a blade coated in demonic energy, I can handle an hour.”

She clenched her small fist.

“I should be praising her, but the more I hear, the angrier I get.”

Martha bit her lip until it bled.

“Mm. I’m getting mad, too….”

Runaan pressed ice to her forehead, her brows furrowing slightly.

“Me as well. But let’s hear the rest first.”

Burren hushed them.

“The current barrier over Montiro is an inverted pentagram.”

Raon unrolled a map of Montiro, tracing the lines of the barrier hiding the Black Tower.

“We’ll draw another pentagram over it in reverse to open the dimensional gate to the Black Tower.”

“Huh…?”

Rensia blinked.

“Wait, won’t the Black Tower’s demons come out to interfere when the magic activates? How will we last an hour?”

“As I said, by drawing a pentagram over a pentagram, the Black Tower won’t be able to open their own gate, and no information will reach them. It’ll be a completely sealed space.”

Chamber had made sure the magic would remain secret. The Black Tower wouldn’t know until the gate opened.

“But unlike the Black Tower, the demons here in Montiro will sense the magic circle’s activation.”

“Then we have to defend each point of the pentagram.”

“Exactly.”

Raon nodded.

– “That little one’s showing her true colors. She’s something else.”

Wrath smacked his lips.

‘Yes. Though I think magic suits her better than martial arts.’

“Not just the people here—the Zieghart swordsmen spread across Montiro will protect the five points of the circle and you.”

Raon smiled reassuringly.

“I’ll do it. No—I’ll see it through.”

Rensia’s tiny courage burned for her siblings and the people of Montiro.

“Just make sure you destroy the Black Tower.”

“No.”

Raon shook his head, taking her hand.

“We’ll destroy it together.”

“Today’s the day.”

Raon clasped his hands, looking at those who would be at the heart of the operation.

“By the end of today, the Black Tower’s name will vanish from the world.”

Over the past week, he had planted the barrier artifacts Chamber made at points on the ground forming a pentagram.

Headquarters had confirmed the placements, and with everyone’s attention on the weekly arena matches, today was the perfect time to act.

“Phew….”

Dorian’s legs shook as he bowed his head.

“Scared?”

Krein clicked his tongue.

“No, it’s not fear today—it’s anger.”

Dorian bit his lip, saying he wanted to destroy the Black Tower. If even this coward spoke that way, he must have been truly frustrated.

“First time I’ve liked you.”

Martha threw an arm over his shoulder and smirked.

“That’s the spirit. If you see a demon, cut them all down.”

She raised her chin.

“Mm. I’ll freeze them all….”

Runaan’s icy aura was as chilling as Wrath’s.

“Sorry, but today we’re defending. Calm down.”

Raon lowered his hands to gather everyone’s attention.

“Last briefing. While the magic is active, Rensia and I won’t be able to move. Same for Chamber, who’ll be operating from range, and the True Martial Palace Lord, who’ll stay at HQ to guard her.”

He placed a hand on Rensia’s shoulder, tilting his chin up.

“That means for the one hour the circle is active—really, the thirty minutes after the demons catch on—you’ll have to hold out with just the Light Wind Palace and True Martial Palace forces. Can you all do it?”

He looked at them challengingly.

“As long as you give the order, my lord.”

Burren bowed.

“It’s not holding out—it’s crushing them.”

Martha snorted, rubbing her neck.

“Mm. I’ll manage….”

Runaan blinked slowly.

“I’ve endured twenty years—thirty minutes is nothing.”

Mark Gorton touched the sword at his waist.

“My job is to guard you?”

Iron Division Leader Trevin licked his lips.

“No, I need you at the southern coast. It’s farthest from the center and most dangerous.”

He smirked, saying he wasn’t sure if he should be pleased or disappointed.

“Left point is Burren. Right point, Sir Mark Gorton. Upper left, Dorian and Krein. Upper right, Morel Kazan of Balkan.”

Raon nodded as he assigned positions.

“The Light Wind and True Martial swordsmen who’ve infiltrated Montiro will support you. Others too—don’t worry about your back, just hold the line.”

All the Light Wind and True Martial forces had entered Montiro over the week. Once the battle began, they’d show their true strength.

‘Though there’s one thing missing.’

The reinforcements he’d asked for hadn’t arrived, but they couldn’t delay any longer.

“Huh? What about me?”

“And me….”

Martha and Runaan frowned at not being called.

“You two are guarding us.”

He smiled, resting a hand on Rensia’s shoulder.

“Just the two of us?”

“You two are the best choice for this job.”

Raon sat in front of the fountain in Montiro’s central plaza, sunlight blazing down.

“Haa….”

Rensia let out a soft breath, standing beside him.

“Ready?”

He tilted his chin toward her.

“I’ve said my goodbyes to my siblings. I don’t think I’ll have any regrets, no matter what happens.”

“Your strength comes from them.”

“Yes.”

She nodded calmly.

“I wanted to give others what my sister gave me. So they wouldn’t have to live in pain like I did.”

She smiled faintly, saying she was here for them, not herself.

“Yeah. It’ll happen. For you, too.”

Raon patted her head.

– “She’s beyond admirable.”

‘Yeah. She’s had to grow up too soon.’

– “Haa….”

Wrath sighed heavily, pained by her forced maturity.

‘It’s fine.’

Raon smiled faintly.

‘We’ll erase the Black Tower and let her be a child again.’

He hung a necklace with a clear gem around her neck.

“Let’s start.”

“Yes!”

Her voice was brighter than ever, lifting his own spirits.

“Thank you.”

He hugged her briefly, then infused mana into her necklace.

Vrrrm!

A small flame rose over the gem, spreading across the ground. When the gem was filled with flame, the dimension to the Black Tower would open here.

“One hour.”

Raon held her trembling hand and smiled gently.

“Let’s endure together.”
