– “You ghost-like bastard….”Wrath’s lips trembled, pale with disbelief.
– “You calculated all of this from the start? What the hell did you eat to make your brain spin that fast?!”
‘As if that were possible.’
Raon shook his head calmly.
‘It was all just coincidence.’
Zircon choosing to follow him, Wrath wagering with him on his own, Lust and Gluttony appearing here—none of it had been planned. Not even the gods or demons Wrath shouted about could have foreseen it all.
‘Enough stalling. Keep your promise.’
Raon tapped Wrath’s head lightly.
– “M-my <Wrath>, maybe. But the dignity of my soul?!”
Wrath’s eyes darted nervously.
– “If I hand all that over, I won’t be a Monarch of Devildom anymore—I’ll be nothing but a lowly grunt!”
He shook his head furiously, saying it was too much to give away even the dignity of his soul.
– “O-Out of consideration for our history together, I’ll just hand over my <Wrath>…”
‘No.’
Raon cut him off firmly.
– “You devil! Do you have no conscience? You won’t rest until I’m buried six feet under—”
‘Who said I was taking it all? I’m just borrowing it. I’ll return it when this is over.’
Wrath clearly misunderstood, but of course Raon had no intention of keeping Wrath’s <Wrath> and soul. He would deceive Greed and then return everything intact.
– “Then wouldn’t it be better if I descended directly into you?”
Wrath tilted his head, thinking that would be safer.
‘I do have things to say to Greed, but a full descent would burden you too much.’
In his current state, having absorbed Zircon and Peridot, he could attempt a Monarch’s Descent, but that alone would weigh heavily on Wrath, who was already weakened. Raon didn’t want to strain him further.
– “Hmph…”
Wrath groaned lowly, as if surprised Raon would consider his well-being.
‘Besides, I have no intention of becoming stronger through someone else’s strength. With my own power, with my own sword, I’ll reach the very top.’
Becoming the strongest—this was the fastest road to avenge himself against Derus. To do that, he had to climb to the peak with his own strength.
– “Your own power? Bullshit!”
Wrath leapt up, frowning.
– “Then hand over every stat and trait you’ve devoured! All of it was forged from my power!”
He swung his arms wildly, demanding Raon keep his word.
‘….’
Raon looked at him, then lowered his hand.
‘Denied.’
– “D-Denied? Who told you that?!”
‘I asked the system. It said no.’
He shook his head calmly, as if he had actually received an answer.
– “You’ve really lost it! I can’t even reach the system, and you—stop spouting nonsense!”
Wrath gritted his teeth, calling him a liar.
‘It’s true. We worked things out peacefully.’
Raon smiled faintly, saying he had finished a civil negotiation with the system.
– “The system is right here! You, the system, all of it runs on my power!”
Wrath thumped his chest furiously.
‘Doesn’t matter. The answer was no. Now hand over your <Wrath> and soul.’
– “Ghh, you’d be tolerable if you just shut up….”
Grinding his teeth, Wrath landed on his shoulder.
– “You must return it all. That’s a promise you absolutely must keep!”
‘Have you ever seen me break a promise? I don’t lie easily.’
– “Haa…”
Wrath shook his head as if he couldn’t understand how he ended up with someone like this.
– “How did I end up meeting a lunatic like you….”
With a long sigh, Wrath finally sent his <Wrath> and part of his soul through Raon’s shoulder.
“Kh….”
Receiving Wrath’s <Wrath> and soul twisted Raon’s being with searing pain, even though his body and mind had already recovered. Even a fragment carried this much weight—Wrath truly stood on a level above other Monarchs.
Kugugugugu!
As Wrath’s Authority and soul poured in, explosions of energy erupted within Raon’s body and mind. His soul felt as though it had leapt to a higher plane, beyond human limits, into true transcendence.
‘Time to suppress it.’
Raon forced the surging dignity of his soul downward, hiding the presence. He did it quickly enough that outwardly, nothing seemed to have changed.
– “Huh? If you were just going to hide it, why did you even ask?”
Wrath tilted his head in confusion.
‘Because what Greed wants isn’t a fight. It’s me.’
Raon licked his lips as he watched Greed parry Lust’s sword.
‘If he realizes you could descend, he’ll retreat immediately.’
– “T-Then…”
‘Exactly. I’ll bait him with an opening, and when his escape is cut off, I’ll unleash everything I’ve borrowed.’
A chilling smile spread across his lips as he imagined Greed’s face then.
‘Until that moment, it stays hidden. So for now…’
Raon folded his arms, raising his chin slightly.
‘…we watch the Monarchs fight.’
– “Huh…”
Wrath blinked rapidly in disbelief.
– “Where the hell did someone like you come from…?”
He shook his head, unable to comprehend.
‘Don’t look at me. Watch the battle.’
Raon turned Wrath’s head toward the clash before them.
Kwoooom!
Lust pressed Greed at close range, her sword infused with the Authority of <Lust>, while Gluttony supported from afar with radiant white light.
‘So Lust’s swordsmanship is the real deal.’
Wrath claimed her power came only from her Authority, but Raon saw otherwise. Her swordsmanship brimmed with obsession and determination, enough to rival transcendent warriors even without her aura.
‘Gluttony fights as though her energy is endless.’
Every blast of white light was on par with a transcendent’s ultimate technique. The more she ate, the more inexhaustible her demonic energy became.
‘But even together, Greed stands above them.’
Greed, adept at both melee and ranged combat, wielded golden brilliance from his hands, parrying Lust’s strikes and diverting Gluttony’s attacks. He stood a step higher, fending off their disordered assaults without major wounds. Even at full power, the difference wouldn’t be large.
‘Educational.’
Raon summoned the Ring of Fire, biting his lip as he studied every detail of their battle, determined not to miss a single moment.
– “He stirred this whole fight up, and now he’s watching it like a spectator?”
Wrath drooled in exasperation.
– “He really is a lunatic beyond imagination….”
—
Paaang!
Greed deflected Lust’s sword off his shoulder and narrowed his eyes.
‘Not simple, after all.’
Even if he was the stronger one, handling Lust and Gluttony together was no easy task.
Had Wrath’s vessel not caught his eye, he would’ve retreated already—the loss outweighed the gain.
‘But…’
That only made him want it more.
The Devildom held more transcendents than the human world, so raw strength wasn’t rare.
But no one grew as fast as this human. Now, after surviving another life-and-death battle in this war, his growth was undeniable. Greed wanted to see how far he could climb.
‘Though that’s not the only reason.’
Through natural deception, Wrath’s vessel was already wielding Lust and Gluttony like blades. To capture him was to capture them as well. That made him invaluable.
‘This is the only chance.’
Moments earlier, Raon’s <Wrath> and soul had spiked, then settled. He had clearly failed to summon Wrath.
If Wrath descended, the opportunity would vanish. The only time to seize him was now.
‘Then…’
Greed shoved back Gluttony’s <Gluttony> with <Greed>, narrowing his eyes.
‘I must create an opening.’
The two Monarchs focused more on defense than attack, shielding Wrath’s vessel. Even he couldn’t easily break through their guard to snatch the human.
‘If there’s no opening, I’ll make one.’
Greed smirked, deflecting Lust’s storm-like sword strikes.
“No matter how much you beg, Wrath won’t look at you. He’s just using you.”
He sneered, provoking Lust.
“Sending you forward while he hides behind you makes it obvious.”
“Shut up! What do you know, buying love with money!?”
Lust flared with fury, unleashing a torrent of pink aura and driving her sword down with terrible force.
“Tsk.”
Gluttony licked her lips and detonated a blast of white light behind him.
Boooom!
Lust’s spatial-rending strike and Gluttony’s explosion combined, injuring his shoulder heavily.
“It’s over!”
Lust leapt forward recklessly, her sword falling toward his throat.
‘Finally!’
At that moment, his golden eyes gleamed coldly. He parried her sword effortlessly, as though never injured, and slipped inside her guard.
“Black Mouth.”
Gluttony sensed the danger and unleashed a horrifying Authority, opening a blood-red maw above his head.
Crackle!
The sky tore, manifesting the crimson mouth of a demon.
“To use even that… you really do fancy him.”
Greed chuckled at the sight.
“Greed!”
Realizing she had been tricked, Lust ignited her entire body in pink aura, casting her sword aside and raising both hands, summoning the deepest Authority of <Lust>.
“You’re too late.”
Greed raised a finger, and a flood of golden coins poured from the sky, suppressing her aura and walling off Gluttony’s summoned maw.
“Stay there and watch.”
He reached toward Raon, certain of victory.
“Let’s see how you change—”
“Vermin.”
Raon spat Wrath’s favorite word and unleashed the borrowed <Wrath> and soul.
Kwoooooooom!
His own soul merged smoothly with Wrath’s, bursting forth with an even greater pressure than the true Monarch of Wrath himself.
Kugugugugu!
Crimson energy surged endlessly, twisting the sky and collapsing the earth.
Gooooooh.
Though three Monarchs stood present, the greatest soul among them all was that of a single human.
“What…?”
Greed’s golden eyes shook like a ship in a storm.
“In the playground I built…”
From Raon’s crimson gaze flared a presence darker and heavier than Wrath’s.
“…Did you enjoy yourself, merchant?”
—
During the fight, Raon had secretly sent Lust an aura message, telling her to feign recklessness. Greed had taken the bait, lunging inward. At the very moment he reached out, Raon had unveiled Wrath’s <Wrath> and soul, reversing everything.
By hiding his own soul and cloaking himself in Wrath’s essence, even Greed’s monocle would show him as Wrath himself.
“Haa….”
As expected, Greed froze, horrified, seeing Wrath in him.
“How…?”
His jaw trembled violently, unable to believe it.
“How?”
Raon mimicked Wrath’s mannerisms, shaking his head.
“You were dancing in the palm of my hand from the beginning.”
He sneered as if it had all been predicted.
“I told you. He’s Wrath.”
Lust licked her lips, pointing her sword at Greed’s back.
“Mm. Wrath who buys me ice cream….”
Gluttony opened her hand, summoning a massive mouth to devour him.
“…How much did you see?”
Greed bit his lip, glaring at Raon.
“Everything.”
Raon lifted his chin smugly, as though every move had been part of the plan.
“You’re not really that calculating, are you?”
“The Monarch doesn’t need to be. But his servant? He reads all your thoughts.”
He nodded, raising Wrath’s presence alongside him.
“…Haa.”
Greed fidgeted with his fingers, then sighed deeply.
“I give up. Something’s off, but fighting further will cost me too much.”
He raised his hands, seemingly conceding.
“Name your price.”
Greed, suppressing his desire and slipping back into a merchant’s guise, admitted defeat and asked what they wanted.
“You admit it so easily? After suffering this loss?”
Raon narrowed his eyes, wary Greed might suddenly lash out.
“Push further, and I’ll lose more than I gain.”
Raon had expected at least one more clash, but Greed’s cold calculation stunned him. He truly was dangerous.
“My condition is simple. Imbue this body with your Authority.”
Raon tilted his chin and raised a hand. He would’ve asked for money, but Wrath never would—so he demanded Authority instead.
– “I knew it!”
Wrath ground his teeth and raised his head.
– “You lump of desire! The title of Monarch of Greed should belong to you!”
He shook his head wildly, unable to tell if Raon was man or Monarch anymore.
‘What’s the problem?’
Raon smiled at the certainty in Greed’s eyes.
‘We can always have both.’
