“Phew….”Raon let out a sigh of relief and gripped his trembling shoulders.
‘The gamble worked.’
He had quickly devised and executed a plan to escape from Greed, and fortunately, it seemed to have succeeded. No, it was more than just success—seeing not only Lust but also Gluttony appear meant the outcome was enough to reshape the game entirely.
– “A gamble?”
Wrath frowned as if he couldn’t understand.
– “What kind of gamble are you talking about?”
‘After Greed appeared, I released the Monarchs’ Authorities that were spread throughout the air into the outside world.’
Since this dimension was no different from the Devildom, the powers of the Monarchs he had previously wielded drifted about like remnants of thought. Using Garunua’s wind, he sent those Authorities outside to summon Monarchs who could help him—and luckily, the gamble paid off.
– “So that’s why you stirred up the wind with the little strength you had left.”
Wrath exhaled in disbelief, realizing why Garunua had been used.
– “To think you entertained such thoughts in front of Greed himself… you truly are…”
He frowned, saying Raon’s audacity couldn’t even be described as reckless anymore.
[As expected of my master….]
– “Shut your mouth!”
Wrath flicked Zircon on the head, making the poor demon seem pitiable now.
‘But there’s something I didn’t anticipate.’
Raon shook his head, staring into Lust’s pink eyes.
– “Something unexpected?”
‘I didn’t think Lust would be in the Devildom.’
He had cast out the Authority of <Lust> strongly, hoping she would come, but just like Greed, she emerged from the gates of the Devildom.
Why Lust, who used to travel with Merlin, had crossed over from the Devildom was beyond him.
“To think I’d find you first after searching so hard.”
Lust waved cheerfully, smiling as though genuinely delighted.
‘Searching for me?’
Raon blinked at her.
‘If she was looking for me, why was she in the Devildom?’
– “Don’t bother trying to understand that stalker. As I told you, she’s the worst at directions in all dimensions.”
Wrath shook his head, muttering that next time she might even come down from the heavens by mistake.
“Do you have bead ice cream…?”
Gluttony licked her lips hungrily.
“Of course.”
Raon pulled out a box of bead ice cream from his subspace pouch, prepared originally as Wrath’s snack.
“Oh….”
Gluttony happily took the box and immediately began eating. Either her nerves were dull, or she simply had no interest in the current situation.
– “Aaagh! That’s mine!”
Wrath grabbed Raon by the collar and shook him.
‘It’s fine to give her some.’
Raon brushed off Wrath’s grip and shook his head.
‘I never expected Gluttony to show up, after all.’
The one he had really wanted to summon was Lust. If only she had appeared, he thought he might survive this crisis. But with Gluttony here too, his chances had risen another step. Even if she had come just for ice cream money, he couldn’t help but feel relieved.
Lust and Gluttony. With these two Monarchs on his side, not only could he drive Greed away, but he might even find the chance to seize Greed’s Authority.
“…So that’s what the wind was for.”
Greed smacked his lips as he looked at Raon standing between Lust and Gluttony.
“Was this the outcome you aimed for? It makes me want you even more.”
His golden eyes gleamed, as if flames of avarice were burning inside.
“Get lost.”
Lust rested her hand on her sword, frowning sharply.
“…A bit disappointing.”
Gluttony tossed aside the empty ice cream box and stepped in front of Raon, as if to shield him.
“I didn’t take you for the type to toy with women.”
Greed drew out his words deliberately, trying to provoke Lust.
“How did you manage to charm that obsessive woman?”
He pointed at Lust with a mocking grin.
“What Lust shows me isn’t obsession…”
Raon shook his chin slightly as he looked at her—a seductress carrying genuine devotion within.
“…It’s affection.”
“Raon… Raon!”
The moment Lust heard the word affection, she erupted with an overwhelming pink aura. Without the Authority of <Lust> protecting him, he would’ve been sucked in and suffocated.
– “You insane fool!”
Wrath smacked the back of his head.
– “What are you thinking, spouting nonsense like affection! Did you take a sword to the brain?!”
‘You can handle the aftermath.’
Raon shrugged at Wrath.
– “You’ll be punished for this! No god or demon would ever let such a thing slide!”
Wrath shook his head violently, furious.
“Lust. You’re mistaken. That’s not Wrath, it’s—”
“Shut that stinking mouth.”
Lust curled her lips and unsheathed her sword, refusing to fall for Greed’s tricks.
“I’ve been called with many names, but I’m nothing compared to you. You’re downright rotten.”
Greed shook his head in disbelief, then turned to Gluttony.
“Gluttony. Did you say you were broke?”
He beckoned to her as she licked the ice cream from her fingers.
“You seem fond of human food. Then I’ll give you money.”
A cascade of white gold coins poured into his hand.
“With your appetite, you’ll feast without end. Better yet, I’ll enslave humans and even build you a kingdom.”
‘…’
Raon frowned, watching Greed tempt Gluttony.
‘He figured out my relationship with her in this short time?’
Since arriving, Gluttony had only said three things: she had no money, she wanted ice cream, and she was hungry. To grasp their bond from just those lines proved Greed was on another level from the other Monarchs.
“Gluttony. Don’t listen—”
“Your money smells bad.”
Before Raon could intervene, Gluttony shook her head firmly.
“Smells bad?”
Greed’s eyes widened.
“Yes. I’ll take money only from Wrath.”
Her gaze was resolute.
‘What?’
Raon exhaled in disbelief.
‘Don’t tell me…’
Had she come not for lack of money, but to save him?
He hadn’t given her gold long ago, and it wasn’t time for her to return yet. For her to show up now could only mean she had come for him.
“…Seems you don’t understand. There’s no such thing as bad money. Money reflects its master.”
Greed flicked the coins back into the shadows and lifted his gaze.
“Two Monarchs…”
He licked his lips as he looked at Lust and Gluttony.
“I could fight you, but with Wrath possibly appearing, it’s troublesome. I’ll have to retreat for now.”
He shifted his ankle slightly, as if to leave.
‘Zircon.’
Raon called quickly.
[W-What is it?]
Zircon, still cowed by Wrath, raised his head slowly.
‘Can you restore my body and mind, even a little?’
[With my strength alone, it’s difficult… but there is a way.]
Zircon nodded, albeit reluctantly.
‘Then that’s fine.’
Raon nodded, stepping back with faint relief.
– “You fool!”
Wrath shook his head.
– “With that frightened face, he’ll realize I can’t appear!”
“Just as I thought.”
Golden light glimmered in Greed’s eyes.
“Wrath can’t come out right now!”
His endless desire flared as he reached out his long hand.
“Khuhuhu.”
Lust and Gluttony blocked him, but Greed’s sinister smile stayed fixed on Raon.
– “Look at that, you idiot! Even if he can’t defeat them, he can pierce through and reach you!”
Wrath waved his arms wildly.
‘I did it on purpose.’
Raon shook his head calmly.
– “What?”
‘With two Monarchs on my side, letting him go would be a waste.’
If only Lust had come, he would’ve settled for driving Greed off. But with both Lust and Gluttony here, the fight could be winnable. Letting him go now would mean losing too much.
‘I can read Greed’s mindset now.’
Had he stood tall or taunted him earlier, Greed would have retreated at the thought Wrath might appear.
But by showing fear, Greed revealed his true avarice, targeting Raon directly.
As Wrath said, he was a demon—no, the Monarch of Greed. He desired everything, not just money, and his intent was plain.
“With two Monarchs, proper compensation is in order.”
Greed licked his lips and raised a finger.
“Let’s say… one hundred million gold.”
Golden brilliance surged forth.
Kwaaaaaaah!
—
“I knew it.”
Lust bared her teeth and stepped forward. Her sword trailed pink flames that rose to form a massive wall.
“You’ll only get hungrier….”
Gluttony sighed softly, clasping her hands. Pure white light like first snow welled up, suppressing the golden radiance trying to pierce through Lust’s flames.
Kwooooooom!
The collision of three Monarchs’ powers shook the entire dimension. The sky tore apart as black lightning fell, the ground collapsed, and heaps of corpses were swallowed up.
‘Zircon.’
Raon fell back and called out.
‘Earlier, you said you could restore me a little. How?’
[…]
Zircon looked at him, then nodded.
[Eat the Stone of Origin from Peridot you acquired.]
‘Eat the Stone of Origin?’
[Peridot’s power is dormant within it. By consuming it, my strength will clash with its and restore some of your body and mind.]
He raised a finger.
‘It’s too big….’
Raon frowned at the gem. He trusted Zircon, but it looked too large to swallow.
[Don’t worry. It’ll melt naturally in your mouth.]
‘Then…’
Raon glanced at Zircon once and put it in his mouth. Just as Zircon said, it melted on his tongue like ice cream.
Kwooooom!
Cool energy surged down his throat, bursting in his chest like an explosion.
“Kh…!”
The pain felt like his heart shattering, forcing his eyes shut and bending him over.
Wooooong!
But it didn’t last long. When he reopened his eyes, strength had returned to his limbs, and the throbbing in his head cooled as if doused in cold water.
He wasn’t back to full power, but close enough. Such recovery from one Stone of Origin was astounding.
[As I said, it’s the clash between my strength and Peridot’s. You’ll be able to fight for a while longer. And…]
Zircon lowered his head with a bitter look.
[This is farewell.]
‘What?’
Raon’s eyes widened as Zircon’s form blurred.
[I’ve used up all my strength, and so has Peridot. When two Stones of Origin clash like this, the will disappears, leaving only power.]
He poked Raon’s forehead.
[You won’t inherit all our power instantly. Like a tree taking root, it’ll slowly become yours.]
‘Forget the power—are you fine with disappearing?’
[Don’t worry. If you die, we’ll return to two Stones of Origin. And…]
Zircon turned to Wrath. His wistful eyes suddenly flared with anger.
[Better to vanish than live with that foul-tempered demon!]
– “F-Foul-tempered?”
Wrath’s eyes widened.
– “You ungrateful wretch!”
[Go ahead, kill me! I’ll disappear anyway, you muscle-headed rock!]
– “You insane?!”
Wrath swung his fist, but Zircon’s fading spirit scattered before it connected.
[Enjoy a lifetime of your master’s abuse!]
He stuck out his tongue and dispersed into black mist.
– “Kuaaaaaah!”
Wrath swung in frustration, hitting nothing but air. Zircon was gone.
‘Tsk, how badly did you bully him?’
Raon shook his head.
– “What bullying! It was just affection—”
‘That’s what bullies always say. If you didn’t torment him, would he have run away?’
– “Ghh….”
Wrath bit his lip, unable to refute.
‘Enough. Hand me your wrath and soul for a while.’
– “Huh? What nonsense is that?!”
His eyes bulged.
‘I need to act as you. Pass me your soul and wrath.’
– “Y-You lunatic! Why would I give you that?! I’d gain nothing!”
Wrath flailed angrily.
‘Did you already forget? You promised you’d do anything if Zircon wasn’t with me because of his wrath.’
– “Wha…?”
Wrath trembled, suddenly recalling the promise.
‘Now’s the time to keep it.’
Raon gripped Wrath’s head with a cold smile.
‘Keep that promise.’
– “Uuugh….”
In the eyes of the Monarch of Wrath, fear and shock surfaced.
