Chapter 1029: The Archery Game

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Malrik turned towards his siblings, who were still standing around, as he spoke, "Start entering the forest already, we don’t have all day," he stated. "And also, spread out, the forest is huge enough to contain everyone."

And indeed, the forest was huge. After all, as a Ducal Estate, their residence was extremely large.

Asher and every other Sun and Moon simply shot forward in various directions, some of them jumping from one tree branch to another, while some simply ran on the ground, their eyes shifting to the sky as though waiting for the flying objects to appear.

Mary, who was moving from one tree to another, immediately spotted a red flying object with her initial, ’M’, on it. The moment she did, her hand moved to her quiver as she took out an arrow. Placing it on the bow, she drew it backwards and shot the arrow.

The arrow blurred forward, but the moment it hit the red object, it vanished... It was an illusion.

Mary was speechless. The game had just started, and she was already owing three points. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as she imagined a negative point score beside her name. She shook her head and kept moving.

In another direction, Thalric was also moving. He spotted an orange object with his initial, ’T’, on it and didn’t hesitate to fire at it. But due to it being a moving object that matched his own perception, he missed, and by a wide margin at that.

He couldn’t help but curse mentally as he came to a stop. Drawing another arrow, he focused even more this time as he zeroed in on the object. He released the attack, the arrow shooting forward yet again, but his shooting form was clumsy, hence he missed again.

’Wasn’t archery easy?’ he couldn’t help but complain at the thought of losing two arrows.

While shooting a stationary object might be easy for beginners like them, shooting at a moving target was another matter entirely.

At another side of the forest, Wuthenya had it easy. She seemed skilled with the bow as though she had practised it yesterday and didn’t tell anyone, but she hadn’t. She was simply naturally that good.

Two flying objects appeared above her. She didn’t hesitate to draw two arrows at the same time and shot both of them out of the air with ease, each of them hitting their marks with above-average accuracy.

’Six points,’ she thought to herself with a smile as she vanished in a blur of motion.

The moment she did, a green blur tore through the position she had previously occupied. It was a green flying object, but the object didn’t stop. It simply changed course like a homing missile and chased after her with a burst of speed, faster than her own base speed.

Wuthenya felt like using her bow as a weapon, but she knew she couldn’t. That would be breaking the rules. The only means of attacking here was by literally shooting an arrow from a bow, no other methods were allowed.

As she and her green enemy engaged in a display of pure speed and reflexes, the other Wargraves were also facing their own dilemmas.

Although they spotted some of Malrik’s illusion objects, they still failed to identify others, as Malrik was simply too good with illusions. Sometimes, he even disguised real flying objects as illusions, making the Suns and Moons ignore them as their frustration continued to bubble.

They had thought it would be easy. But alas, only the red objects had been easy to shoot down, along with a few orange ones after wasting one or two arrows, and as for the green ones... the green objects didn’t even give them the chance to draw their bows, let alone shoot. Even if they unleashed a shot, they would miss, as they weren’t expert marksmen.

But alas, there was a cheater amongst them... their youngest.

Asher could be seen moving through the forest in a burst of speed. Even if he had turned off his Omni Perception and illusion protection, it didn’t really matter, as he could tell the difference between reality and illusion with a glance. After all, he was sort of an illusion master himself.

And at the end of the day, Asher couldn’t turn off the abilities that came with the Absolute Physique, nor could his genius mind be turned off. His mind and body seemed to merge as his brain brought forth memories of those who had shot various arrows at him, from the True Awakening Event to the very last battle where he had encountered enemies using such weapons.

Four red flying objects appeared in the air. Asher simply gave them one glance, then took out three arrows and shot at the objects without even looking. Three of them shattered into pieces, while he abandoned the last one, as it was an illusion all along.

Although the red objects could dodge, Asher simply calculated their paths and attacked the positions they were going to be in according to their movement patterns. Of course, the other Wargraves did this as well. After all, in battles, anticipating your opponent’s movements was a basic instinct and common knowledge. But due to their low bow proficiency, their knowledge was useless as they ended up missing most of the time.

Although they were getting the hang of it, people like Asher, Apollo, Olivia, and Wuthenya were ahead of everyone else.

Apollo was ahead because he had read the soul memories of various archers before, so it was a bit easier for him. Olivia and Wuthenya simply had talents that were too great to be ignored.

The moment Asher shot down the three red objects, the fourth red one immediately transformed, changing into a green colour before shooting forward with intense speed.

Asher was stunned. He knew the fourth red object was an illusion. He just didn’t know it was a disguised type of illusion.

He didn’t delay. He immediately shot to the side at the last second. The moment he did, the tree he had been standing on immediately burst apart into splinters under the force and speed of the green object. Asher’s hand moved towards his arrows, but before he could even take one out, the green object moved.

It didn’t attack him directly. Instead, it slammed itself into various wooden splinters that were still suspended in midair, shooting them forward like bullets.

’Isn’t Malrik taking this game too seriously? When did an inanimate flying object gain such combat sense?’ Asher thought to himself as he used his bow to deflect the attacks to the side with calm ease.

Although attacking was only permitted through shooting arrows, nothing had been said about defending.

As Asher defended, the green object tore towards him, moving for his leg as though it intended to cripple him. Asher simply sidestepped, then allowed himself to free fall from the branch he was standing on. The moment he fell, he finally drew his arrow, but he drew two and unleashed both of them.

The green object that was already chasing him simply dodged the arrows, but the moment it dodged, the second arrow collided with the first and changed course. With a shattering sound, the arrow tore through the green flying object, destroying it.

Seeing this, Asher landed on the ground with a smile on his face and a deft touch. The moment he did, another green flying object tore in from the side, not giving him a moment to even enjoy his victory.
