Chapter 1048: Broken Promise

lWith that, they continued their walk as Asher instructed Lyra to show them their rooms while he followed behind them. After a while, they arrived at Asher’s room, all of them sitting on the bed while Ryaen sat on a chair as they continued to discuss. The first thing they talked about was Asher’s setup.

"We are definitely gaming through the night," William was the first one to speak as he walked towards the television with a huge smile on his face.

"I wonder how FatelessPen was able to get these to work without an Internet connection," Finch followed up as he took one of the pads and felt the weight in his hands as though he wanted to test the game for himself.

Ryaen and Vaelric went towards Asher’s laptop and the screens he had put up. Although they didn’t really understand how a laptop worked, it still amazed them that Asher had everything here.

Asher, who was on the bed, smiled as he spoke, "Why are you guys acting so surprised? I already told you guys that FatelessPen gave this to me," he stated, then suddenly remembered something. "Speaking of which, did you guys later ask him for the phones?" he asked.

He had told them to ask FatelessPen to draw up phones for them. Whether FatelessPen agreed or not had nothing to do with him, as he hadn’t tried convincing FatelessPen for them.

Ryaen, who sat before Asher’s laptop, spoke with a smile on her face, "We asked on the Sky Jet back home, and he agreed." The moment those words left her mouth, her phone appeared in her hand, with even William and the rest taking out theirs.

Each of them was satisfied that at least they could get their phones to work within their Empire.

"Although I’m happy about the phone," Vaelric began to speak, "when I see your setup, I just feel like my phone isn’t much anymore," he sighed as he gazed at one of the curved monitors on the table.

Asher simply smiled and said nothing for a moment, deciding to skillfully change the topic.

"Did FatelessPen tell you guys if he would be at the Star Academy or at least where he would be?" he asked.

The boys shook their heads as they didn’t dare ask a Crownstar Life Ranker that sort of question.

"I did," Ryaen spoke without turning to Asher.

Asher turned his attention towards her as he asked, "And what did he say?"

Ryaen replied without pausing, "That he was leaving the Empire, but which Empire, he didn’t tell me."

Asher stayed silent, then nodded. As FatelessPen wasn’t an Instructor at the Star Academy, the last time they had seen him, which was over a week ago, was probably the last time they would be seeing him for a while.

Even if FatelessPen somehow managed to become an Instructor, he, Asher, was going to apply for graduation the moment they were done with the first year, which was probably going to come to an end within a week upon their return to the Star Academy.

"I won’t lie, I will miss that guy," William spoke as he pressed the TV remote. "Although I’ve barely seen many Crownstar Life Rankers, I felt like he was the chilliest one out there."

Finch and the rest simply nodded in agreement.

As Asher was about to speak, the door burst open as Olivia walked in without knocking. Everyone paused, their eyes snapping towards the door as they wondered what she was doing here, but they immediately reacted as they all stood and spoke.

"We greet the Eighth Moon," they greeted at the same time.

Although Vaelric was a Prince and Ryaen was also the daughter of a Duke and didn’t necessarily have to bow, greet, or show too much respect, they still did.

Olivia stared at them for a moment, then nodded as she spoke, "I hope my brother isn’t treating you all too badly."

Finch was the first to speak, "The Tenth Sun treats us perfectly well, Eighth Moon," his tone respectful, as even though he was friends with Asher, he felt somewhat uncomfortable addressing Asher by name in front of another Wargrave.

Olivia nodded, her eyes shifting towards Asher’s television, gaming console, laptop, and monitor. She was about to speak on it, but shook her head, deciding against it as she had come for another reason.

Her black pupils landed on Finch as she asked, "Where is your sister? I don’t see her here," her tone flat.

Finch paused for a moment before he replied, "The letter of invitation the Tenth Sun wrote only listed me as the invite. I didn’t want to break the rules by bringing someone I wasn’t told to bring," he explained.

Olivia frowned for a moment. She had been told that Asher’s friends were finally here, and she had come running, thinking the cute Rachael would be here. Her eyes shifted from Finch and landed on Asher, and the moment their eyes met, Asher simply shook his head.

Olivia sighed and stated in finality, "Since she isn’t here, I won’t interrupt you people anymore." With that, she closed the door and walked away with a disappointed expression on her face.

Asher had purposely not included Rachael’s name in the letter that was prepared for Finch as he didn’t want to be responsible for a kid running around. Although Rachael was smart, at the end of the day, she was still a kid, and he didn’t want to do any babysitting work.

’I would have invited her if I knew Olivia liked her that much,’ Asher mused to himself with a relaxed expression.

Finch turned towards Asher as he spoke with a sigh, "When I was leaving, Rachael broke down into tears. She wanted to come, but I couldn’t take her with me." He shook his head as he spoke, "Although I didn’t tell her where I was going, it seems either of our parents let the information slip."

Asher felt a bit of pity for Rachael, a silent sigh escaping his lips.

"She kind of hates you now, Asher," Finch continued.

Asher arched an eyebrow as he asked, "Isn’t that a little bit too much? She practically saw me throughout the Inter-Empire competition."

Finch shook his head as he stated, "It’s not that, but the fact that you promised her a spar and bailed on the promise."

William, who was sitting on the ground, couldn’t help but tease, "Who would have thought that the Mighty Dominator and Crusher of Talents would break a promise he made to a cute child?" he mused aloud. "I guess we all have our flaws," his black eyes shifting towards Asher for a moment before they turned back towards the television.

Asher simply ignored William as he fell into his thoughts, wondering if he should send Lyra and Finch to go bring Rachael. With Olivia obsessing over the little girl, they wouldn’t have to watch wherever she was running to.

But after a moment of thought, he gave up on the idea. If Olivia wanted to see Rachael, she should invite her, just like how he had invited these four idiots he called friends.
