Chapter 1091: I’m Really The Worse Dad

Indeed, Azaron was feeling guilt at the moment. He had first felt this emotion when he had decided to fake their deaths and allow Asher to witness it. And just like Asher had said, tempering his mind and Will was his goal. After all, one always experienced a kind of change in mindset whenever they witnessed their family die and held their corpses.

To him, the boy was getting strong too fast, and he was worried his Will wasn’t tempered enough. Although Asher had told him about Debro and the horrors he had witnessed at the hands of those Experiment Branches, at the end of the day, just because one witnessed that didn’t mean their Will and mentality couldn’t be bent and broken.

Malrik had objected at the time, but he had ordered Malrik not to say anything as the Priamarch. Morthern had glanced at him, then nodded, as the Great Elder perfectly understood.

But Azaron wasn’t the type to give excuses. He knew that what he did was wrong, but he didn’t know what other method to use at that point, as that seemed like the perfect moment. Although now he understood that Asher would be going to the Frontier, which would temper his Will and Mindset, he didn’t know this back then when he faked everyone’s death.

So, Azaron opened his mouth and spoke, "I’m sorry."

His tone apologetic, he broke eye contact with Asher for a moment as he stared at the table before him, then turned to Asher as he continued, "As you said, it was the only way I could think of at the moment to harden and straighten your Mentality and Will, and if I ever went back in time... I would still make the same decision." His tone seemed to harden at the moment.

Asher stayed silent at his Father’s words. He could sense disappointment rising within the guilt. Asher understood that Azaron wasn’t disappointed in him, but in himself as a Father.

But he couldn’t understand why this man would feel guilty and disappointed in himself and his own decision, apologize for it, but yet still say that even if he went back in time, he would still make the same decision.

He sighed. He had expected that maybe both of them would go back and forth, and maybe that Azaron would go into detail. Instead, the man said what he already knew, apologized, and said he would do it again.

Azaron stared at Asher as he spoke, "You will understand one day, probably when you have a child of your own..."

Asher remained silent as he didn’t know exactly what to say to that. He wondered if it was related to what Malrik had said about their Father’s upbringing.

"Can you talk about your childhood and Grandfather?" He asked, as he wanted to hear what Azaron had to say about his childhood. Maybe he could pick up a few events or anything related to what Malrik had said.

Azaron stayed silent for a moment, then shook his head as he spoke, "Even if I explained, you wouldn’t understand."

He saw through Asher’s thoughts and plan, not bothering to go into his childhood. It was something he didn’t even talk to Malrik about, no matter how many times Malrik asked. He wouldn’t magically open up now.

Asher released a heavy breath as he saw the conversation was going nowhere at all. If the man didn’t want to speak, he couldn’t force the man. But was he supposed to just accept the apology without any explanation and just get up and leave?

He wanted to know more. He wanted to understand this man’s line of thought, and he understood he could only do so through the man, as there was no need to meet people like Morthern, as they wouldn’t say anything since it wasn’t their story to tell.

So, yes, in respect to his self-asked question, the answer was yes. He could only accept the apology and just get up and leave. Although he could just reject the apology, that wouldn’t exactly change anything.

Asher stared at his Father for a moment. He sighed and rose from the chair, then turned around and walked towards the door without another word.

Staring at his son leave, Azaron leaned further back into his seat as he stared at the ceiling as though lost in thought.

’I’m really the worst Dad, aren’t I?’ he thought to himself in silence. ’I hope you don’t shout at me too much when I join you, Lily,’ he thought to himself as he shook his head.

He was aware he wasn’t exactly good at this parenting thing. It was one of the reasons he usually allowed his children to do their thing without too much supervision, and luckily, none of them turned into some arrogant Noble who went around killing people.

He sighed as his eyes left the ceiling, returning to the document in his hand as he continued reading through the business finances to see if any of their subordinates were embezzling funds. Although no one dared to short the Wargraves of money, some people always felt they were too smart and the Wargraves were brutes who wouldn’t notice.

Asher stepped out of the study room, heading straight to his room without nodding at Zarek like he usually did whenever he came out. Lyra could sense that Asher was lost in thought and was conflicted about something, but she didn’t ask. This was a matter between a Father and a Son; she couldn’t exactly insert herself into the conversation.

Asher, upon getting to his room, simply collapsed face-first on the bed for a moment, then rolled onto his back as he stared at the ceiling in silence. It seemed as though he was confronting people these days, and they were shutting him down.

He might ask Cindralis for information regarding the First True War and the Erased Era, but she shut him down... well, not exactly. She wanted information for information. And now, Azaron had simply apologized while feeling guilty and disappointed in himself, but didn’t bother explaining.

Asher couldn’t help but close his eyes as he exhaled heavily. If it wasn’t for his Emotion Perception ability, he would never have been able to sense that Azaron felt guilty and disappointed in himself. He would have thought the man felt nothing and stood firmly by his decision.

’He is truly the epitome of a stone-carved expression,’ Asher thought to himself as he opened his eyes with another sigh.

’Hopefully, Malrik can get something out of him,’ Asher thought to himself as he left the issue concerning their Father to his Older Brother. After all, Azaron seemed closer to Malrik than any of his children, which was a bit understandable.

’I wonder if Teo accepted Malrik’s offer,’ he thought to himself as he decided to stop thinking about Azaron and his parenting skills.

His phone vibrated within the system inventory. He took it out as he opened the messaging app.

{FatelessPen: YOU ARE THE MAN!!!}

Asher read the text. He could literally feel the man’s excitement through the screen.

{FatelessPen: As for payment, don’t worry, I won’t disappoint you. Whenever the First Sun recruits me, I will think of something to give you. I promise}
