As the presence descended, Asher blurred backwards, not daring to stand near the altar, as he didn’t know what was happening. It had taken his soul, and he didn’t want to suddenly be attacked or anything, and the system had also already activated the soul protection mechanism.
As Asher appeared beside Lyra and Zarek, from the altar, another colorless orb of soul that resembled Asher’s, which had just entered the altar, rose from the altar. The soul floated for a moment before it started to take shape; it stretched, increasing in size until it took the shape of a Human Physique.
The facial features of a woman appeared as a red-wine-colored clothing appeared around the woman that had just appeared. She possessed red hair that flowed down her back as though she was a Vampire of some sort, her eyes snapped open as she possessed the red eyes that matched her hair.
Floating above the altar, she stared at Zarek as though recognizing the strongest in the room, her gaze then shifted towards Lyra for a moment as though she was accessing something. She turned her head for the final time as her gaze landed on Asher this time.
A smile broke across her lips as she spoke, "It looks like I’ve finally been called upon after ages to test the younger generation."
As those words left her lips, she floated forward then downwards as she landed with a deft touch.
Zarek, who was standing at the side, spoke, "Lyra, you are not to interfere from this point onwards, no matter what happens." His tone was instructive.
Lyra stayed silent for a moment, then nodded her head. She didn’t disobey because she knew she had no idea how this place worked; listening to the Head Butler was the right thing to do.
With her gaze still on Asher, she walked forward with a calm smile. Asher had to admit, his entire body and senses screamed danger just by looking at this woman standing before him. She was a beauty unlike anything he had ever seen, as even someone like Arianna and Cindralis paled in comparison.
But despite his entire existence screaming retreat, Asher remained where he stood. He knew the woman wasn’t putting on any airs or exerting any pressure or anything of the sort, so he had no reason to move.
Coming to a stop before Asher, she spoke, "What line of Wargrave is it at the moment?" She asked curiously.
Asher arched an eyebrow as he asked in confusion, "Line of Wargrave?"
The woman stayed silent for a moment, then replied, "I mean, is it the 70th Patriarch or 80th Matriarch? Which is it?"
Asher shook his head as he replied, his tone as calm as ever, "I don’t really know."
Although he had read various history books at the Wargrave Library, it didn’t mean he was counting the number of Primarchs the Wargraves had before Azaron.
The woman didn’t push nor criticize, as though she understood that not all Wargraves cared to know such information.
"State your name," she spoke as she stared down at Asher as she stood a head over him.
Asher didn’t hesitate to reply, "Asher Wargrave."
The woman smiled as she replied, "I am the 15th Matriarch, Runera Wargrave, Sovereign of Battlefields. I will be your examiner for this round, Asher." She paused for a moment, then added, "You may refer to me as anything you want to."
Hearing her name and title, Asher couldn’t help but wonder what overpowered woman he was about to fight at this moment. Besides, he didn’t know what she meant by "this round," but after a moment of thought, he came to the conclusion that "this round" meant this moment of training, as if he ever left and came back, another person would be chosen to test his current limits.
Asher’s eyes couldn’t help but shift towards the altar that was behind Runera as he couldn’t help but want to break it and figure out its working mechanism, after all, it had just summoned the 15th Matriarch, who even knew how far back that dated in history.
As he was lost in thought, Runera’s left hand blurred in pure speed, yet it seemed ever so slow in motion as though it was a paradox.
Asher couldn’t react, he had barely followed the speed and power behind the attack. With a crisp slapping sound, Runera’s palm met the side of his face with perfect collision. Asher’s head snapped sideways, his body shot sideways too in a blur, his body slamming into the wall with a booming sound and force.
His bones shattered as he slid down the wall, his cheek torn open from the slap alone as blood poured from his mouth. His back ached from the collision as the wall behind him didn’t even break nor dent as though he hadn’t just collided against it.
Virelass instantly activated Crimson Pact as the injuries on his body vanished, broken bones snapping back into place.
Runera turned towards him as she walked, her voice echoing, "Hooo!!! It seems your soul-bound weapon can heal injuries, that was rare back in the day," she said, a bit fascinated.
Asher didn’t hesitate to tap into Star Form, his hair instantly turning pure white as it rose towards the ceiling, a star appeared on his forehead as his eyes also turned white.
He didn’t know how powerful this woman was, he couldn’t afford to hold back at the moment. The moment he tapped into Star Form, he didn’t wait for her to reach him, he moved instead.
His body shot forward in a blur of white as he closed the distance in less than an instant, his rapier, which was already in his hand, thrust towards her heart with zero hesitation. The Sovereign of Battlefields simply smirked as she raised a hand to block the attack, but as her fingernail was about to meet the blade, Asher immediately vanished as he teleported.
The next split second, he was now standing behind Runera, the momentum and speed of his attack not decreasing as he aimed at her heart still, but from behind this time.
Runera moved as though she possessed eyes at the back of her head as she weaved to the side, expertly dodging the attack. But she didn’t just dodge, she turned around in one smooth motion. As Asher’s attack tore through the air where she was, she immediately retaliated, her palm screaming upwards as she moved to dislocate his elbow.
But before the attack could even land, Asher tapped into his Space element as he phased through the attack. But the moment he shifted into a phasing state, no attack landed as Runera recalibrated as though she had anticipated that Asher would phase through her attack.
Her elbow screamed towards Asher’s stomach with wicked force. Asher reacted on instinct as his body exploded into a shower of purple lightning bolts as he instantly evaded. The bolts of lightning flickered in another direction as his body became whole again.
The moment his body became whole again, Runera was already there with a smile, her foot screaming out with mad force. Before Asher could even react, her toes met Asher’s jaw with rocketing impact. But Asher didn’t just take the attack head-on, he traded blows, as the moment Runera’s attack landed, he unleashed a beam of Light that tore towards her stomach.
