Chapter 1156: A General

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

An hour passed swiftly as Asher’s consciousness was yanked out of the dream realm by the system’s chime.

[Host, an hour has passed]

Asher’s eyes fluttered open. He gave a small yawn, followed by a stretch, as he seemed dizzy for a moment. He jumped down from his bed and headed towards the door without waiting for anything else.

Acker’s eyes fluttered open as he awakened from his cultivation, his eyes landing on Asher. Seeing Asher leave, he remained motionless as he sank back into cultivation. He may have understood that, according to Buddha’s plan, Asher was the Hero and the Cleaver of Sin, but at the end of the day, he wasn’t a puppy that followed the Hero around all day while wagging his tail.

As he walked around, he noticed that only about ten percent of the Cadets he had seen yesterday actually remained. It was as though they had all been deployed at once. He passed by the entertainment area and stopped out of curiosity, but there was no one there.

’It seems everyone has gone on one mission or another,’ he thought to himself, as even Cadet Parker was nowhere to be found.

Asking a random Cadet he saw on the way for directions, Asher walked out of the Cadet residence, as the training facility reserved for them wasn’t within the building. The Frontier opened once more before him, his eyes falling on the various buildings that stretched outwards. His head tilted upwards as his eyes met the floating island structures once more.

"I wonder how the Miscellaneous Group even gets to these floating islands," he murmured aloud, but didn’t spend minutes deliberating over useless thoughts.

Asher saw Soldiers of various Ranks, all of them ignoring him as he walked past them. Not that he needed them to acknowledge his presence or anything, but at least the higher-ranked Soldiers didn’t seem to go around demanding respect.

Arriving at the Cultivation Facility, Asher entered and met a woman who asked him various questions about how long he planned to stay and what he intended to train. Asher answered calmly and swiftly. Before long, he was shown where to cultivate, and the mechanism was activated. It wasn’t anything special, just a room filled with an insane amount of Astra Energy.

Asher sat down and closed his eyes, the hours passing as he did nothing but cultivate. The sun began to dip below the horizon as evening approached. Asher rose to his feet when the system notified him of the time. It was 6:30 p.m.

Stepping out of the cultivation room, he nodded at the woman before walking out of the building entirely.

As he walked, Asher’s eyes finally fell on the Memorial Wall that Lieutenant Chioma had spoken about. Although he could see it from where he stood, it was quite far away from the training facility and Cadet residence. His body vanished as he simply teleported, appearing before the Memorial Wall. He started from the first name written at the topmost part of the stone.

Yes, the Memorial Wall was a slab of stone that seemed to be made out of a special material.

Asher looked at the length of time some of these people had survived, and not just that, their ranks within the Frontier were also written. But contrary to how Lieutenant Chioma had exaggerated, not many Cadets had died during their first few days or weeks.

Only ten people seemed to have possessed the world’s greatest bad luck. Although ten people seemed like a lot, one had to remember that Damian Wargrave, the Third Great Elder, had become a Crownstar Life Ranker about two centuries and six decades ago. This meant that the Algorith Frontier had been in existence for nearly three centuries.

Therefore, ten people dying during their first few days within the Frontier over the course of almost three centuries wasn’t a lot.

His figure lowered from the top through the air as he read through the list. The Memorial Wall was tall, and it contained over a million names, showing how many people had died over the course of these centuries. After a while, Asher sighed and vanished from the Memorial Wall after reading all the names on it.

’If I’m not careful during my deployment, my name might be written next,’ he thought to himself.

Just because only ten people had died within their first few days didn’t mean he wouldn’t become the eleventh person. Yes, he knew that due to his speed, strength, perception, reaction time, and battle prowess, his first few deployments would contain boring tasks that wouldn’t even test him. However, if he became too cocky or overconfident, he might just ascend to heaven in a burning chariot.

As Asher was about to step into the Cadet residence, having teleported there, he suddenly came to a halt as his passive Spatial Sense skill picked up a strong presence. His head snapped in that direction, his purple eyes fixing on a man who floated in the air beneath the moonlight and stared down at him.

The man possessed flowing blue hair that reached his waist but danced to the rhythm of the night breeze. He wore a brown uniform with four stars on the left side of his chest, showing his rank as a General-ranked Soldier, a man just below the Commander and Vice Commanders.

Asher didn’t know whether to salute and stand at ease or salute like Soldiers did back on Earth. After a moment of mental deliberation, he finally bowed as he usually did with Cindralis or Azaron when paying his respects.

"I greet the General." His tone was calm and respectful.

The General, who was floating above, smiled as he descended.

"It seems your senses are sharper than I thought," he stated as his feet met the ground.

Asher simply nodded, as he didn’t really know how to reply to that. Therefore, he remained silent.

The General simply stared at Asher before shaking his head as he spoke. "The Commander wishes to see you."

Asher arched an eyebrow as he wondered what the Third Great Elder needed him for. He had never even spoken to the man since his transmigration. Yes, he had seen him a few times, but that was it.

"I acknowledge the order," he replied, trying to respond as militarily as possible. But whether he was doing a good or bad job, he didn’t know, as the General didn’t comment on it and simply wore an amused expression.

"Let’s go, then," the General stated before shooting into the air in a blur.

Asher didn’t hesitate. His form turned into a phantom as he followed with ease, their speed tearing through the surrounding air as they arrived in a second, their feet meeting the earth with a deft touch.

Asher’s purple eyes locked onto his surroundings as though he was searching for something special, but at the end of the day, there wasn’t anything. Although the buildings here seemed more lavish, they were still just buildings. Besides that, the ambient Astra Energy was denser than the energy below.

Aside from these two things, there was nothing particularly special about this place. It was simply a floating island used to symbolize status and nothing else.

But although there was nothing special to gain merely by existing up here, it was human nature to still want to climb higher and reside in such a place, just so they could look down on others from above with an air of superiority.
