Chapter 1163: Underground Space

Asher nodded his head as he spoke in reply.

"Yes, Corporal Sonya."

With the reply, he moved immediately. He knew that no other Cadet was going to follow him, as no Cadet assisted another during their own personal mission, even if they made mistakes.

Asher simply teleported to the cavern, not bothering to walk or jog this time. He appeared within the bonfire itself, the fire scattering backwards a bit, purposely startling the other Goblins. The Goblins immediately picked up their weapons, their eyes burning and ready for a fight. The moment their eyes took in their target, an ordinary Human, they made their move.

But alas, Asher wasn’t here to bore himself with these Goblins. Astra Energy pulsed from his body as Gravity instantly skyrocketed. With a boom, one hundred and four bodies hit the ground, their bellies flat against the earth.

Asher stared at the wailing baby Goblins, Gravity not acting on them, as if it did, all twenty would have died. With a thought from him, the already increased Gravity spiked in twenty random locations. With the increase, twenty adult Goblins immediately exploded into meat paste and bones, as they couldn’t withstand the sudden spike.

The smell of blood rose in the air at the death of the twenty. Asher walked past the Goblins who were alive as he headed towards the Fang-Class Goblin.

The Fang-Class Goblin had also sensed the commotion but didn’t make a move. The moment it saw Asher walk into its personal area, where even other Goblins couldn’t enter, it snarled loudly and attacked with immense strength, a spiked club swinging towards Asher’s head from the side.

Asher didn’t move, not even trying to block. With a battering force, the spiked club met the side of his head. The moment the attack connected, the spiked club shattered into bone fragments, as it had been too weak to inflict an injury upon Asher.

Asher raised a hand, then flicked his finger against its head, his index finger not even touching the Goblin’s forehead. At the flick, a staggering shockwave erupted backwards, slamming point-blank into the Goblin, its body tearing into pieces as blood splattered against the ground.

Asher stared at the corpse for a moment, then shook his head and turned away without wasting any more time. Walking back into the area where the Goblins were still pinned to the ground by Gravity, he simply stared at them, then teleported out of the cavern.

His figure reappeared upon the branch, nobody reacting this time. His lips parted as he spoke once more.

"Twenty adult Goblins were killed, and the Fang-Class Goblin has been handled."

His words were concise and straightforward, as he didn’t go into details on how he handled it.

"Good work."

Corporal Sonya stated, turning her attention away from Asher.

The journey continued without Corporal Sonya actually investigating if Asher had killed the Goblins. She simply believed he had, as she had no reason to doubt him. As for Asher not killing the babies and allowing them to live, she didn’t read any meaning into it.

And with that, the missions continued, time continuing to pass as each Cadet continued to take turns handling each marked location. If there was a Beast one of them couldn’t handle, she would make four Cadets fight it together, making only Asher watch since he was stronger and more experienced than the other four.

As they crossed the forty-kilometer radius, Asher frowned for a moment as he sensed something strange underground. Although his Spatial Sense might have seemed to work only above ground, Asher wasn’t one to simply not check if it worked underground.

If the book that Corporal Sonya had given earlier had made mention of underground spaces, then he wouldn’t have cared and just kept moving, but it hadn’t.

Sensing Asher’s troubled expression without even turning back, Corporal Sonya came to a halt. She turned ever so slowly as she spoke in a calm tone.

"Cadet Asher, is anything the matter?"

She asked, as she was very much interested in what made the Tenth Sun suddenly frown.

Normally, she wouldn’t care whether a new Cadet smiled or frowned or showed any emotion, but unlike the other four Cadets, the Tenth Sun had been expressionless till now, and now he was frowning. Of course, it could be nothing, but it was best to confirm.

Hearing Corporal Sonya’s words, Asher arched an eyebrow as he wondered if Corporal Sonya’s ability was to read emotions or something of the nature.

"Yes, my ability allows me to read emotions. Now, I ask again, is anything the matter, Cadet Asher?"

Corporal Sonya stated as if she had read his mind, but she hadn’t. She had merely read his puzzled expression and the flicker of emotion that flashed by in that moment.

Asher no longer hesitated to reply.

"My senses tell me that there is an underground space below us, and the book you handed out made no mention of an underground space."

As he spoke, his purple eyes shifted towards the ground, his Omni Perception also flaring as he used both Spatial Sense and Omni Perception to sense the underground space.

The four Cadets immediately frowned as they started to imagine the worst. How couldn’t they? Before they registered and came here, they had been told that people died here every single day, and that many families were broke because of the Frontier.

Yet, they decided to come for the money and glory. After all, how many people could pay a whopping ten gold coins and also provide free resources to train, even giving out skills and techniques for free? Although it was according to contributions, of course, it was still practically free of charge, as other Frontiers didn’t do this.

And now, on their very first deployment, they had encountered something that wasn’t in their itinerary.

Corporal Sonya’s black eyes shifted towards the four Cadets for a moment. She could sense their unease, but she made no comment about it. Her eyes shifted back towards Asher, her eyes meeting his purple ones as she asked.

"How deep is the underground?"

Asher paused for a moment as he measured the distance, then replied the following moment.

"Two hundred meters."

His tone was calm and certain.

Corporal Sonya remained silent. She gazed at the ground for a moment as she stood on her branch, simply lost in thought. As for what she was thinking at the moment, no one knew.

’How come nobody has sensed this underground space till now?’

She thought to herself as she continued to stare at the ground as though if she stared at it long and hard enough, she would see the underground space Asher could.

Why she was so perplexed was that various Cadets and Corporals had been through the route as they checked up on their marked locations literally every single week.

And among this group of Cadets and Corporals, various Soldiers with sensing abilities and Earth-element-based abilities were included. It baffled her a bit that none of these people had been able to sense the underground space until now. But she judged no one, after all, she didn’t exactly know the range and limitations of everyone’s abilities.

After all, even her own Emotion Reading ability didn’t extend up to a two-hundred-meter radius.
