Asher didn’t stare at the two Monster corpses; he simply followed the direction where he sensed the Rank 8 beings. His steps were calm as he walked with the demeanor of a man who believed he could take on these two beings and come out on top. After walking for a few minutes, Asher stepped into the space where the Emovira and Monkey were sitting. The space was large, spanning three kilometers wide, but to beings of their level, it might as well have been a meter.
As Asher’s purple eyes met the Emovira and Monkey, they stared back at him with broad smiles on their faces as they spoke.
"I underestimated you, Asher Wargrave. I had thought that you could only exchange a few attacks with us before we killed you, but it seems that yet again, we’ve clearly underestimated the Bloodline Of Doom."
The Emovira spoke first, its eyes fixed on Asher, its fang visible as a wide, maniacal grin appeared on its face.
"When my friend over here talked about you, I simply lost interest."
The Monkey began to speak, the earlier happiness and enthusiasm it had once displayed returning as the fur on its body rose from the pure ecstasy of finally having a strong opponent to fight against.
"But now, watching you wipe out both of our strongest forces shows that you are on the same plane of power as us."
The Monkey concluded as it stroked its beard for a moment, then rose from its seat, a staff appearing on its shoulders with arms on it as it readied itself to begin.
Asher stared at these two with an expressionless face for a moment, then smiled as he spoke.
"I will entertain you both all you want if you answer a single question of mine."
He proposed once more as he stared at them.
This was the reason he had killed the remaining three Rank 7 Monsters and Emovira without asking any questions. It was simply because he could just ask these two and get better information, and if he got nothing, he would go down to the second underground space himself.
"Ask away, Bloodline Of Doom descendant."
The Monkey responded as it was ready to get down to it immediately, its golden pupils fixed on Asher.
Asher couldn’t understand why these two kept referring to him as the Bloodline Of Doom. But he didn’t bother thinking too much about it; he simply assumed it was another title the Wargraves had earned for themselves throughout their past history. So, he simply pointed towards the ground as he proceeded to speak.
"Tell me all you know about what’s happening down there."
His tone was calm as ever, yet somewhat expectant as he awaited some sort of answer from these two.
The Monkey shook its head as it spoke in a low tone.
"Neither I nor the Emovira know anything. All we can say is that we accepted a mission to stay here a month and a half ago. That is all we know."
As the Monkey spoke, it shrugged simply, utterly uninterested in anything and whatever was happening down there, as it had never once been tempted to become curious enough to even try spying or asking its Emovira friend.
Asher’s eyes flickered at the word ’mission,’ although the Monkey didn’t go into details, his brain couldn’t help but connect the dots and make assumptions that were presumably facts.
’They were likely paid Knights or Soldiers from another Empire.’
He thought to himself, as that was the only explanation that made sense at the moment. As he had the thought, one Empire came to mind... Velkarin Empire.
Although the Vandross Empire and the Zarethorne Empire had their skirmish over a year and a half ago, Asher didn’t consider them, nor did he even consider the possibility of another Noble of the Zarethorne Empire or the Emperor himself.
These people wouldn’t dare.
As for why he suspected the Velkarin and not the Thalvorn, it was simply because Arianna had said that they would meet on the battlefield. Which meant one thing; WAR.
’Are they invading the Zarethorne Empire through these tunnels? Smuggling in Soldiers so they can unleash a surprise attack and wipe out everyone within the Algorith Frontier in one fell swoop?’
He reasoned as he deduced the Velkarin Empire’s plan with a single detail.
Given how powerful Damian was, Asher couldn’t help but suspect that the Velkarin had three to four top-tier Crownstar Life Rankers lying in wait within the second underground space, or were already within the Frontier, or just directly underneath it.
At the thought, Asher couldn’t help but chuckle, the muffled laughter echoing through the three-kilometer-wide chamber. He sighed and raised his hand as he gazed at the ceiling, then shook his head and wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.
The Emovira was silent for a moment, then asked in a confused tone.
"Why are you laughing, Tenth Sun?"
It tilted its head to the side as it couldn’t understand the Human boy standing before it.
The question and voice snapped Asher out of his thoughts as he spoke in a calm, amused tone.
"Apologies for my laughter earlier."
He paused, then gave a smile as his purple eyes fixed on the two beings before him as he continued.
"It’s just that it’s a tad bit too cliche for me to uncover such a plan or conspiracy that has been going on for over a month and a half on my very first deployment."
He explained as he shook his head, as the entire situation was simply too funny to him. Earlier, he had told himself he wouldn’t expect anything to happen on this mission and it would end in the normal and boring way since it was his first one. And now, as the mission only had ten more kilometers until its supposed end, he suddenly sensed an underground space.
The Emovira and Monkey seemed not to understand, so they didn’t ask.
"Anyway, that is besides the point."
Asher continued as he readied himself to begin the fight against the two, his demeanor as unshakable as ever.
"Even if I have my own conclusions and guesses, I still have to go down there and investigate for myself."
He stated in a final tone, his knees dipping forward as he prepared to shoot forward. But before he could move, the Monkey that had been silent shattered an orb it had been hiding behind its back.
The moment the orb shattered, Asher froze as he felt the entire space within the area warp and forcefully teleport him and the two before him. The next moment, he found himself standing within what seemed to be a mountain range.
’I was forcefully teleported by an artifact.’
He thought as he looked around for a moment, his purple eyes landing on the two before him as they stood together.
"You don’t seem flustered or surprised, Bloodline Of Doom descendant."
The Monkey stated as it spun the staff in its hand, Astra Energy flowing around its body and staff, showing it didn’t come here to waste too much time.
"Why would I be when I can leave whenever I want?"
His tone was calm as he spoke, a smile appearing on his lips as he stared at his prey... ahem, opponents.
"Besides, this is better for me. This way, I don’t have to hold back too much at the fear of the underground space collapsing or my teammates dying from the shockwave of our attacks."
He explained as he began to walk forward, his steps as silent as ever.
Asher wasn’t stupid. Since he was leaving Corporal Sonya and the four Cadets behind, he had given them a dagger with the Mark, so that in the case anything happened, he would reach them in an instant.
There was no way he was going to leave those five without any type of insurance.
