The Fifth Alternate Version tilted his head in confusion as he wondered what this guy was thinking about."Just tell us what is on your mind then, Tenth."
The Sixth Alternate Version requested as he floated upright, his hands crossed against his chest like he was flying like a superhero.
The Tenth Alternate Version gave a weak smile as he didn’t want to talk about it, but he was sure he didn’t have the liberty to remain silent, as the others would torment him endlessly to speak his mind.
He sighed, then began to speak, his eyes tearing away from the Fifth Alternate Version.
"Are we really Alternate Versions of Zero who are independent existences, or are we just advanced clones?"
He asked, his tone steady and calm as he stared into the distance like he was some old man who was educating the younger generation on the meaning of life.
At his question, all the Damians frowned, all ten pairs of eyes flickering with confusion as they wondered where this thought was coming from. But they didn’t rush to shoot down the question and hypothesis. After all, if the Tenth was asking the question, it meant he had some sort of conjecture or whatever to back it up with.
"Explain, Tenth."
The Seventh Alternate Version spoke as he sat in a lotus position midair.
The Tenth Alternate Version stayed silent for a moment, then proceeded to explain.
"From the small novels Zero had read through Elder Brother Morthern’s recommendations when they were little, Alternate Versions are supposed to be Alternates, meaning they are supposed to be different, and not the exact same copy. Being exactly the same like we are is the definition of what a clone is."
He stated, his tone a bit curious and inquisitive, like he was doubting his own existence and reality.
"If we really are Alternates, then some of us, or maybe one of us, is supposed to be a woman, for example. Another is supposed to be short, around six feet, not eight feet. Another is supposed to be Black in complexion, and even some of us could go as far as not being of the Human race, like some Alien, if I might say."
He paused for a moment as he allowed everyone to keep up and understand what he was saying.
"So I ask again, are we just some advanced Clones, or are we really Alternate Versions of Zero?"
The Tenth asked in finality without turning to anyone in particular, his eyes remaining fixed in the distance.
The sky became deadly silent as all ten Damians couldn’t help but frown at the Tenth Alternate Version’s words. Just barely minutes into being called upon for the first time, one of them was already doubting themselves and had made a compelling argument.
And honestly, they were forced to critically think about what the Tenth had said. After all, what the Tenth Alternate Version had said was the true difference between an Alternate and a Clone.
Damian couldn’t help but doubt his own Ultimate Skill for a flicker of a moment. Yes, he had spent seventy years on it, but just because he had invested that huge amount of time into it didn’t mean he wasn’t willing to listen to someone call out errors or flaws in his own skills.
And this wasn’t just someone, but himself, and nobody knew him better than himself.
None spoke at first until the Fifth Alternate Version finally spoke, his tone lower than before, as there was no smirk or anything of the sort this time around.
"This is exactly why we should work together as I said earlier. And besides, I suggest revising your Ultimate Skill on the list. It should be the first thing the eleven of us reevaluate when we start."
At the Fifth’s words, the Original Damian simply nodded as he said nothing.
At this moment, there wasn’t anything factually wrong. The Tenth Alternate Version’s words were just guesses. Whether they were true or not would be confirmed later on, as it could be that the Original Damian had simply perfected the Ultimate Skill to this point and level where he called out perfect Versions of himself without the slightest variations.
"Pffttt!! Hahahahahaha!"
The Seventh Alternate Version suddenly burst out laughing as he couldn’t hold himself back anymore.
The others turned towards him as they wondered what was making this guy laugh like an idiot at such a serious moment like this.
The Seventh Alternate Version wiped the small tears from the corner of his eyes as he spoke in a laughing tone.
"Forgive me. Because of the Tenth’s words, my mind seemed to head in another direction."
He explained the meaning of his laughter. He shook his head as a smile still remained on his face.
"Let’s hear what’s so funny at the moment then, Seventh."
The Eighth Alternate Version stated, his expression flat and indifferent as he wasn’t exactly amused.
The Seventh smirked at the Eighth’s words. After pausing for a moment, he decided to speak.
"It’s just that I wonder if, in the event that one of us is actually a woman, can either of us impregnate the other, hence giving birth to a child who is maybe more talented than all of us?"
His tone was calm but contained nothing but pure curiosity. His eyes shifted towards the Original Damian, then he looked away with a smile on his face.
The rest were speechless at what they had just heard. They couldn’t understand how someone’s mind had even moved in that direction given the gravity of the moment. But at the same time, it made sense since they were always so carefree because Zero was.
But the Seventh’s words made them consider it. Could they, the Alternate Versions, procreate? They didn’t know if they could or couldn’t, as they didn’t know where the limitations of their own bodies stopped.
And if they could procreate with other Humans, did this break the Wargrave Family Law that allowed only the Primarch to bear heirs, since Zero wasn’t exactly the Father of the child... well, technically, he would be, since his DNA would be a 99.999 percent match.
"We are all having one strange thought after the other."
The First Alternate Version spoke with a heavy sigh as he shook his head.
"First it was the Tenth questioning our existence, talking about us being clones instead of Alternates, and now, the Seventh is talking about sleeping with a female version of himself, which is very concerning, and I don’t see what is funny about that to make him laugh."
The First Alternate Version stated as he wore a tired expression.
"I wonder which one of us would be the next to have some troubling thoughts... Maybe you, Ninth?"
The First Alternate Version asked, his eyes turning towards the Ninth Alternate Version as he asked.
The Ninth Alternate Version arched an eyebrow at the accusation as he spoke helplessly.
"Why are you even asking me? Why not Fifth?"
He asked as he defended himself. He was just a normal guy with normal thoughts.
Although personally, he felt that the question should be directed to Zero. After all, they were all a stem of Zero, no? But he didn’t say it out loud, as he didn’t want to accuse anyone of anything. Especially Zero.
