"Why are you guys so surprised?"Azaron asked in confusion as he tilted his head to the side.
"If I wanted, I could have wiped out the entire Velkarin Empire with my very first attack, or even half of it. But I decided not to. Do you know why?"
He asked rhetorically as he began to walk forward in calm strides with his hands behind his back.
"Because that wouldn’t be fun. What fun and satisfaction would I get if I wiped you all out in one giant attack? The fun lies in watching you all watch everything burn and knowing I, Azaron did it."
He answered truthfully. He could indeed have wiped out everything and everyone in one attack. But as he had said, there was simply no satisfaction in that.
Emperor Horace stared at the approaching Azaron as he asked.
"How do you even sleep at night knowing you wiped out a billion people and even plan to wipe out billions more?"
His tone grew heavier as negotiations had failed, reminding him that mad people like Azaron couldn’t be negotiated with.
"Just like you, Emperor Horace. In complete comfort, in comfortable sheets and like a baby."
Azaron replied without a shred of lie in his voice as he spoke the truth. He would truly sleep peacefully after this carnage was over.
Nightmares were for the weak and Will-short.
Horace’s eyes flickered for a moment as he wondered if Azaron’s answer was referring to the scheme with Halemir. He wondered if Azaron’s use of the word "baby" and the phrase "like you" meant he knew everything.
Fortunately for the Emperor, he was simply overthinking it, as Azaron knew nothing of the schemes and whatnot.
Azaron took one last step and vanished from where he stood, his figure appearing before Horace. Ender appeared beside him, but he didn’t use the weapon, as he simply punched out lazily.
One of the five Imperial Knights reacted with insane speed, as he had predicted the attack from the very beginning. A huge rectangular shield appeared before him, its base striking the black Lightning Barrier as he took Azaron’s attack head-on while protecting the Emperor.
With a detonating blast, fist met shield. The Imperial Knight didn’t take a step back as he remained firmly in place, stopping Azaron’s attack perfectly.
Before Azaron could unleash another attack, the shield flashed, and the force behind Azaron’s punch was doubled and bounced back at him. Azaron didn’t react, he didn’t dodge, he simply remained where he stood and tanked the attack with his ridiculous physique without taking a step back.
He had simply attacked lazily earlier; whether the force was multiplied tenfold or a hundredfold made no difference to his power.
From above, the left, the right, and behind, the four other Imperial Knights moved with predatory speed, their weapons leaving their sheaths as their attacks closed the distance in less than milliseconds.
Azaron’s gaze remained indifferent as there was no flicker of excitement in facing weaklings. He vanished from where he stood, dodging all the attacks with a singular motion. When he reappeared, he was before Horace once more, his palm shooting forward to catch the man by the face.
Horace’s reaction was lightning-fast. Black Lightning coursed through his body as he shot backwards with a twisted expression, barely dodging by a hair’s breadth.
At this moment, he knew he had miscalculated. He had assumed that Azaron couldn’t kill him because of politics. But he had been wrong.
Why should the strong care about the rules? Why should the strong care about politics? Why should the strong care about anything that didn’t interest them?
Someone who was still bound by rules had never truly touched the peak.
Although it was ironic, since Azaron was still bound by the ancient rules of the Wargrave family.
Emperor Horace immediately took out a Teleportation Scroll. He wanted to tear it and escape, but before he could tear it, the space around him shattered as the Void immediately swallowed him, locking him within.
Emperor Horace was speechless. All he could see was total, pitch-black darkness. Not even a flicker of light was visible, nor could he move. He tried resisting, but he remained in place.
Azaron had simply locked him in place, intending to save him for last after dealing with these Knights.
From behind, the shield-wielding Imperial Knight threw his shield with immense force and power towards Azaron’s back.
Azaron immediately turned, his right hand moving as he caught the shield, stopping it in place. But he didn’t stop there. The moment he caught it, he pulled it forward, stopping just beside his head, then threw it back towards the shield-wielding Imperial Knight with insulting ease.
The Imperial Knight couldn’t even follow the attack, as he was immediately bisected at the waist by the cutting force behind the shield. His upper torso fell to the left, his lower torso falling to the right as blood and internal organs danced through the air.
He, a shield-wielding Imperial Knight, had died to his own shield. A perfect ending, one might say.
The other four didn’t delay to mourn their dead comrade. The Emperor was being held captive right in front of them, and that took precedence.
A huge axe tore downwards towards Azaron’s head from above. He raised his head, his hand streaking upwards as he caught the attack dead-on with his palm once more. Before the Knight could react, Azaron was already upon him. He clamped down on his shoulder, then tore him in half from the shoulder through sheer physical strength.
The Knight screamed, but Azaron didn’t stop as blood splattered across his face. He held both halves of the torn man in his hands, then discarded them like trash.
The third Imperial Knight closed in, her speed fast, too fast even, as her ability was super speed. But even with her super speed, Azaron didn’t need Astra Energy augmentation to keep up, as he managed just fine, his perception tracking her movements.
His own speed shot up to an insane degree, surpassing the woman’s as he caught her by the throat. Before she could do anything else, Azaron’s other hand moved as he pulled her head from her body. The woman’s legs kicked at the air, her hands gripping Azaron’s right wrist as she tried her best to break free, but it was futile.
With his left hand on her head and his right hand on her throat, Azaron pulled the woman’s head from her body, her neck tearing apart from her shoulder. With a sickening ripping sound, the head was pulled off the body, the spine following as it remained attached to the head.
When the fourth Knight closed in, Azaron moved, releasing the dead female Knight. His left hand moved as he swung the woman’s head, using her spine as a whip. The spine wrapped around the fourth Knight’s head, but before he could free himself, Azaron pulled, causing his head to make a full three-hundred-and-sixty-degree turn.
His corpse dropped onto the black Lightning Barrier, which was still active.
The final Imperial Knight stood with a frown on his face, but he didn’t take a step back. As a Knight, it was his duty to protect his Emperor, and that was precisely what he intended to do.
