Chapter 1244: Sick Motherfuckers

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The fifth Imperial Knight’s Astra Energy erupted in full force as he readied himself to move, but before he could close the distance, Azaron was already behind him, his hand stained with blood as he had torn out the Imperial Knight’s throat, leaving the man with only a small portion of his neck intact.

The Imperial Knight fell to his knees as he clutched his throat, hoping his innate regeneration would be able to handle such severe damage, but alas, it wasn’t enough, as he fell forward and died after a couple of seconds.

All five Imperial Knights, each possessing the Radiant Crownstar Life Rank and entrusted with protecting the Emperor with their lives, had died within mere seconds. Years of hard work had gone down the drain.

Azaron shifted his attention to the location where he had sealed Emperor Horace. Walking over, he willed the Void Prison to collapse. The moment it did, Emperor Horace reappeared. He was disoriented, as he didn’t know how long he had spent wherever he had been trapped.

But he regained his composure within a second. His eyes snapped towards his dead Imperial Knights, and the moment he saw the brutality with which they had died, his expression turned into a frown.

He already knew these five would lose, but he hadn’t expected them to be killed in such a brutal manner.

"In your next life, Emperor Horace, when you hear of the Wargraves, you move in the other direction."

Azaron stated as his hand rose, landing on the Emperor’s head.

The Emperor wore a weak smile. He didn’t try to resist, as he knew how futile it would be. He couldn’t help but reminisce a little as his life approached its end.

He had loved his wife and his baby, but that love couldn’t triumph over his ambition and greed. Although he had ruled the Velkarin Empire for only two months, he had loved every bit of it, and it had been worth the price he had paid. It was simply a shame.

As for calling Halemir to help, he didn’t even consider it. After all, he didn’t even have a way to contact the Sinvairas, but they had a way to contact him. Even if he had a way to contact them, he wouldn’t. He would rather carry the secret of their cooperation to his grave than allow someone as powerful as Azaron to learn about it and somehow survive.

As Azaron touched his head, burning orange flames erupted as he burned Emperor Horace Sol Virelle alive. The man screamed at the top of his lungs, but Azaron didn’t stop until he was nothing but cinders.

Azaron watched as Emperor Horace’s ashes were scattered into the air by the raging wind.

He stayed silent for a moment, then spoke without turning in any particular direction.

"Aren’t you guys a bit too cowardly?"

His tone was flat, neither mocking nor condescending, as he was simply asking a straightforward question.

At his words, six new presences revealed themselves, each of them stepping through space.

They were the Dukes of the Velkarin Empire, each possessing a different hairstyle, with some having tattoos and wearing various rings on their fingers.

"We do not want this war, Duke Azaron."

One of the six Dukes spoke as he floated, his eyes shifting towards the dead Imperial Knights and the tiny pile of ashes that remained of the Emperor.

Azaron stayed silent for a moment. He couldn’t sense a single intention to fight from these six people. He was familiar with all six of them, but they weren’t friends.

As one of the Dukes said they didn’t want this war, he wasn’t joking. They had tried advising the Emperor against it, but the Emperor had still gone ahead with it. They could only advise the Emperor and offer their counsel, but they couldn’t order him around.

"So, even if I wipe out half of your Empire, you still wouldn’t make a move?"

Azaron asked as he stared at the six of them, his tone a bit brisk and mixed with mild disappointment.

The six Dukes remained silent, neither confirming nor denying it. But their silence was all the answer he needed.

The six of them knew they couldn’t take on this madman, even if they tried. They weren’t Knights who were willing to die for their Lord, their Empire, and stuff like that. They were simply trying to fight for their own lives.

If they took on Azaron, they would undoubtedly die. They weren’t naive idiots.

So, allowing Azaron to wipe out half of the Empire’s population, landmass, and everything else was a fair price to pay. As long as their loved ones weren’t involved, they didn’t really have any issues with it.

The Empire could always be rebuilt. Besides, they could always spin a story for the public, claiming that the Emperor and his Knights had died while stopping an End-Class Monster.

The six Dukes’ willingness to let billions die in exchange for their own lives and families was simply a reflection of how the world worked.

People might say they were selfish, but why shouldn’t they be? Of what use were these billions of people that the Dukes should sacrifice themselves for them? What made their own lives more important, such that they should live while the Dukes shouldn’t?

Besides, these Dukes knew that even if they tried to fight and died, Azaron would ultimately still wipe out half of the Empire. So, what was the use of such pointless deaths?

It was best to simply let him do whatever he wanted, and everybody would win.

Azaron shook his head in disappointment. He had come here for a fight, yet these Dukes had chosen to exchange billions of lives for their own.

Although he could kill the Dukes regardless, he wasn’t the type of man who went around killing opponents who didn’t want to fight him from the start.

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the air.

"I wonder if you guys can still call yourselves nobles after this. You’re all just a bunch of sick motherfuckers hiding behind fancy clothes and etiquette."

Space shattered violently as Azazel Haellight finally made his entrance.

He stood as tall as ever, his black hair and skin seeming to glitter under the sunlight as he floated in place. He landed on the black Lightning Barrier, which remained in place even after the Emperor’s death.

At his appearance, the six Dukes frowned. The last they had known, this man had been undergoing some sort of training. They hadn’t expected him to return, but it was understandable. After all, the Empire was in danger, and only he could match a man as monstrous as Azaron.

Azazel didn’t waste his breath on the Dukes. He turned his attention to Azaron as he continued.

"While I don’t exactly know what the Emperor did to make you this angry, besto friendo, you’ve already caused enough damage, and wiping out half the Empire won’t change what happened."

He stated calmly, trying to make Azaron see reason and stop this madness or whatever it was.

Azaron wasn’t surprised by Azazel’s presence. In fact, he had expected the man to arrive much earlier.

"Azazel," Azaron began to speak, his entire demeanour shifting the moment Azazel stepped out.

"The only reason I even settled for destroying half of the entire Velkarin Empire instead of simply wiping it off the world map is that you and I are friends, and the Youngest and your daughter are being shipped by us. If not, best believe I would have gone for erasing it all."

He stated flatly, without a change in expression, explaining why he hadn’t wanted to wipe it all out from the very beginning.
