The sound of footsteps entered her ears. Her eyes, filled with blood, shifted in the direction from which the sound was coming, eventually falling upon the person responsible for her current predicament.
She couldn’t help but give a weak smile as she remembered all the simulations she had run in her mind. At the end of the day, the Emperor had been wrong. The First Sun was simply too ridiculous, with or without his soul-bound katana.
Malrik walked towards her, his sun-forged katana followed beside him as though it possessed a consciousness of its own, much like Solaris. But it didn’t.
"Any last words?"
Malrik asked as he squatted down to her level, meeting her gaze while resting his hands on his knees.
She considered Malrik’s question for a moment before speaking.
"There is simply no way you Wargraves are this strong. Your family definitely possesses a great secret."
She stated this with absolute certainty, as she was convinced of it at that moment. How could a single family possess such a ridiculous gap in strength between themselves and everyone else, with only a few individuals capable of matching them?
It was simply too hard to believe.
"Indeed, we do. Isn’t that much obvious?"
Malrik replied as he tilted his head to the side, as what Jada had said was entirely obvious.
"Well... since you’re dying anyway, I’ll satisfy your curiosity and tell you."
At his words, Jada’s eyes flickered. She needed this information; she wanted to know the reason. Yes, she would die, but she would die knowing something that nobody else in the world knew.
"The reason we Wargraves are simply this strong is... because of our Bloodline."
Malrik stated without any change in expression.
Jada immediately vomited a mouthful of blood as her barely stabilised organs became unstable once more due to Malrik’s ridiculous words.
She had thought she was about to hear some great secret, only for this man to be fucking with her. Who didn’t know that the Wargraves possessed a ridiculous Bloodline that had refused to thin out since ancient times, unlike other ancient bloodlines that had been diluted many times over?
But everybody believed there had to be more to it. After all, even people from ancient times couldn’t be this ridiculous, right?
"If you don’t want to say it, why bother talking? Tsk."
Jada stated as she clicked her tongue in disappointment, the anticipation and eagerness building in her chest vanishing.
Malrik simply chuckled as he shook his head. He had indeed been messing with the woman.
"Have you ever slept with a Black woman before?"
Jada suddenly asked, shifting the conversation in an unexpected direction.
Malrik arched an eyebrow at her words as he wondered why she was asking.
"A couple."
He answered truthfully, as he had visited the Velkarin Empire under false identities a few times. His total stay had amounted to just two weeks round-trip, which was a journey he could easily make.
"Then, when you do become a Primarch, marry a Black woman and have babies with her. I’m sure the offspring from the two of you will give rise to even more ridiculous Wargraves."
She stated like she were revealing a great secret.
Malrik arched an eyebrow, surprised by the suggestion, but before he could even ask why, Jada’s Astra Energy hummed once more as she immediately froze her own heart and brain, effectively killing herself.
Malrik was surprised by this turn of events. But it didn’t matter whether he killed his opponents with his own hands or they committed suicide; as long as they died, that was all that mattered.
As for Jada’s last words, he didn’t overthink them. Although he didn’t particularly care about attaining the position of Primarch, if he ever became the head of the family, he would marry whoever he wanted, not necessarily a Black woman simply because of Jada’s final suggestion.
As Malrik rose from his squatting position, his sun-forged katana moved in a flash, decapitating Jada. Her head rolled to the ground, but no blood splattered, as her blood had frozen along with her brain and heart.
It wasn’t that Malrik was wicked; he was simply making sure she was dead. After all, for all he knew, Jada could have been playing dead and waiting for him to leave. Then she would deactivate her ability and return to life.
A man’s gotta protect his perfect kill record.
And with that, he vanished, streaking towards his Frontier.
In another direction, at a village close to the border of the Zarethorne Empire, a Cabinet Member of the Lux Vanthelmor Imperial Family could be seen floating above the settlement. He had been assigned to protect this area and the villages extending in other directions, and he had done precisely that.
He was simply waiting at his post at the moment.
As he floated with his eyes closed, they suddenly snapped open. His head turned in a particular direction, and after a moment, he vanished from where he stood, appearing within a blanket of trees and leaves.
"What are you doing here?"
The Cabinet Member asked, his eyes falling upon the newcomer. It was none other than Cindaros, the Sinvaira of Obsession.
He smiled at the human’s words as he replied.
"I’m obviously here to uphold my end of the bargain. After all, we would never have achieved this much success without you."
His tone was playful and teasing.
Although his tone was playful, his words were true. This Cabinet Member, Holio Del Vanthelmor, had been the one feeding the Sinvairas information about all the Frontiers and Outposts contained within the Imperial Records.
Nobody could simply establish a Frontier; they had to obtain approval from the Imperial Family, which was simply too easy, as the Imperial Family saw no reason to prevent people from establishing military forces that would protect and assist the Empire.
Consequently, the Imperial Family maintained records on almost everything. Even FatelessPen joining the Sun Frontier had been reported to the Imperial Family.
Holio Del Vanthelmor remained silent for a moment before speaking.
"Let’s be quick. There are other Crownstar Life Rankers around, as well as another Cabinet Member nearby."
He urged, as he wanted to get it over with.
Cindaros smiled and nodded. He raised a hand, and a flower appeared before him, which he handed to Holio.
"As agreed, this flower will add about two centuries’ worth of lifespan to your already-decaying body."
He stated calmly, as that had been their bargain.
Holio was dying. His lifespan was rapidly depleting because something had gone wrong during one of his training sessions, permanently damaging his body.
He had sought out private healers rather than Imperial healers, as he didn’t want the Imperial Family to discover his condition, but nothing had worked.
That was until he was approached by the Sinvairas. How they had learned about his condition, he didn’t know.
Taking the flower, he nodded at Cindaros before vanishing from where he stood and returning to his position.
"I look forward to further cooperation, Holio Del Vanthelmor."
The Sinvaira stated as his body transformed into papers of various sizes until he disappeared entirely.
Holio didn’t reply. He simply acted like he hadn’t heard the Sinvaira’s words.
Personally, he blamed the Wargraves, as it was after losing against an Elder from that family that he had entered seclusion to train, determined not to suffer such a disgraceful defeat the next time. Consequently, he had injured himself during training.
He closed his eyes, unbothered by the act of treason he had committed.
