_____________
After considering it for a moment, she shook her head internally and decided to give up on the matter. She could already sense various Crownstar Life Rankers being stationed across various locations. Although their presence was faint, it was still there.
Nobody knew of her lifespan-stealing ability; people simply thought she possessed some sort of immortal ability that kept her alive until she eventually faced death. It was best to keep things that way.
If she made a move now, they would decipher her second ability.
Besides, killing high-ranked Emovirae and Monsters whenever her lifespan approached its end was a good method, and it had worked perfectly fine until now. There was no need to act beyond the norm.
"So, how did this war even begin? How did the Velkarin Empire infiltrate us this deeply without you guys even knowing?"
Cindralis couldn’t help but ask, as it made no sense to her that the Velkarian people had made it this far into the Zarethorne Empire.
And as for how she knew they had infiltrated the empire, it was simple. The battle was currently happening inside the Zarethorne Empire, near the borders. Such a thing had never happened before, as wars usually occurred beyond the borders and on neutral grounds.
Hence, she came to the conclusion that they had infiltrated the empire.
Azaron didn’t hesitate to explain everything the Emperor had told all the Nobles and how the Velkarian people had hidden underground.
At Azaron’s words, Cindralis wasn’t satisfied. She felt that the empire had become negligent, thereby lowering its guard and allowing itself to be easily infiltrated. Just because this was the first time they were being infiltrated through underground passages didn’t mean their lack of awareness was justified.
Various abilities existed that could have uncovered the scheme from the start, yet nothing had happened. Which was extremely odd to her.
She didn’t bother voicing her thoughts. She wasn’t a Duke or a Noble, and neither was Azaron the Emperor. So, voicing her thoughts to him would change nothing.
Besides, as the man had said, Zolthemire might be the cause of this, and if he was responsible, then it was somewhat understandable that nobody had found out.
"To think that the Velkarin Empire was this vicious. Planting bombs across almost all Frontiers and Outposts and launching an all-out attack. If the scale of the battlefield is already this staggering, I wonder how much of a loss our Empire would have experienced if they hadn’t been discovered."
She couldn’t help but speak as she imagined the current war being ten times more intense.
Azaron didn’t speak. He didn’t entertain such possibilities, as he wasn’t a man who acted based on speculation or what-ifs.
Cindralis turned her eyes towards Azaron as she continued speaking.
"You said almost all Frontiers were attacked, which means yours were probably among them, so what are you still doing here talking to me? Or were you able to save your people in time?"
Azaron remained silent for a moment, then shook his head as he spoke.
"How could I save my Soldiers in time when we weren’t even aware of what was happening? Besides, Morthern and Zarek are already handling my Frontiers at the moment. I would have been there with them if it weren’t for you holding me here and asking me various questions."
He stated as he arched an eyebrow, watching Morgana attack Damian for interfering in her battle.
Damian could only click his tongue in anger and leave, flying to the Elders’ Frontier to help them instead, since his sister didn’t want his help.
Although Damian didn’t understand what Morgana was doing, Azaron perfectly understood.
At Azaron’s words, Cindralis stared at him with a peculiar gaze. Azaron couldn’t help but turn towards her, his golden eyes meeting her black ones as he asked.
"What?"
At his question, Cindralis didn’t answer immediately. After a moment of silence, she couldn’t help but speak.
"I’ve known you since you were born, Azaron. Since you joined my Star Academy and graduated, so I know the kind of man you are. When I wanted to forcibly make Asher my disciple, you and your hot-blooded eldest son stormed my Dimension. And when the Emperor tried to manipulate Asher, you and the entire Wargrave Family committed treason. And when the Assassin Guild made a personal move against Asher, you and your Knights wiped them out."
She paused for a moment after listing the man’s acts of revenge. And that was just the recent ones, as she hadn’t mentioned the ridiculous things this man had done decades ago when people tried other sorts of rubbish with his other children.
"So, you being here conversing with me calmly and not being angry means you already collected payment for the blood of your Soldiers."
She continued without breaking eye contact.
"What did you do, Azaron?"
Her voice held a certainty that Azaron had done something outrageous. After all, Azaron wasn’t someone who would lose millions of Soldiers and simply let Morthern and Zarek handle it.
Them handling it meant Azaron was doing something else.
Azaron remained silent for a moment, his eyes meeting Cindralis’s as they seemed to be locked in some kind of staring competition.
"It seems you know me too well... Cindralis."
Azaron finally spoke as he broke eye contact, a sigh escaping his lips.
"I don’t. You are just a straightforward, one-dimensional guy."
Cindralis answered, her eyes still on the man as his words solidified her suspicions even further.
"I didn’t do anything much. I just killed their Emperor, a few of their Knights, some Cabinet Members, some Nobles, and a few billion people."
Azaron answered in an indifferent tone, without the slightest change in his facial expression to show remorse for his actions.
Cindralis froze for a moment as she couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Their new Emperor? The Cabinet Members? A few billion people? Some Nobles?
Her mind immediately reached one conclusion.
"Did you wipe out the entire Velkarin Empire?"
She asked, as this was the only thing that made sense to her at the moment.
It was a daring thing to do, but it wasn’t something a man like Azaron or another Wargrave couldn’t do.
If they could launch an attack against their own Imperial Family and Empire, then wiping out a foreign empire they hardly knew anything about was certainly within their means.
"Only half," Azaron corrected Cindralis.
Cindralis stared at the man before her, as she didn’t know what to say.
Only half? He was saying that like it lessened the scale of what he had just done. She closed her eyes for a moment, then inhaled and exhaled, reminding herself to stay away from this man.
’Maybe I should stop accepting the Wargraves into the Star Academy?’
She considered the thought. After all, what if one person within her Dimension mistakenly caused an issue for a Sun or a Moon, thereby leading to these madmen invading her place?
After a moment, she turned towards Azaron once more and spoke.
"But isn’t that a bit too much, Azaron?"
She asked, as it was indeed too much. Billions of lives had been lost to this man’s rage and his chosen response.
Azaron shook his head, disagreeing with Cindralis’s words as he spoke.
"Cindralis, whether the Velkarin Empire was being manipulated or not, one thing remains true: Emperor Horace sent out his men on this particular mission with his own hands. He should have been prepared for the consequences of his own orders."
He stated flatly, his voice brisk.
