Their journey to Silbesta went without any major problems.
They had twenty royal knights guarding them, and with a formation consisting of multiple carriages, there weren’t any robbers or monsters that would dare attack them.
Cain could sense with [Search] that there were monsters wandering about in the forest, but none of them showed any signs of attacking them.
“We’ll be in Silbesta in a bit. Cain-kun, in the end, we didn’t get to share a bed…”
Cain sighed at Silk, was gazing outside with a displeased face, then, still monitoring the situation with [Search], he answered.
“We haven’t announced our engagement yet, and Duke Eric also warned us, didn’t he? And then, what would Teles say…”
Thinking of Telestia, who had seen them off, Cain gently refuted Silk.
Counting his previous life, Cain was now halfway through his twenties, and although Silk was a beauty the likes of which couldn’t be found in his previous world, there was no way he would make love to a child who hardly even had a small bulge up top.
The carriage continued on without anything happening, and around noon, a town surrounded by walls came into sight.
“Viscount Cain, the town of Silbesta is just coming into view.”
A knight who had been guarding them called out to them from outside the carriage, to which Cain nodded.
(But still, that Count Ragnaf His Majesty spoke of… it would be nice if nothing happened, but…)
A knight had gone ahead to explain everything, so the gates were now thrown wide open, and guards lined up either side of the road to greet Cain.
A caravan of merchants that was about to enter the town was surprised at first, wondering what was going on, but they gave way to Cain’s group at the prompting of the guards.
Cain’s carriage continued moving between them all, and didn’t stop even after entering the town, going directly to the lord’s residence.
The carriage arrived at the lord’s residence after slowly rolling through the town for twenty minutes or so.
“Viscount Cain, we have arrived at the lord’s residence.”
“Got it, thank you.”
Opening the door of the carriage, Cain got off first, then held out his hand to Silk to help her to disembark.
“Cain-kun, thank you.”
Nodding in response to Silk’s smile, Cain looked up at the lord’s residence, in front of which a number of servants, as well as their lord, had already lined up.
Count Ragnaf, a man seemingly in his forties, stepped out from the center of the line, his arms held out wide on either side of him.
“Viscount Cain, Lady Silk. Welcome to Silbesta. I’m the lord of this town, Ragnaf von Ruuvest Silbesta. May the blessings of Marineford be with you.”
The two of them bowed properly and greeted him.
“Count Ragnaf, thank you for taking the trouble to come and welcome us. I’m Viscount Cain von Silford Drintor. We will be in your care.”
“I am Silk von Santana. We will be in your care.”
“How polite. You must be tired from the long journey, so just rest for today.”
Opening the doors, a maid led the two of them to their guest rooms. There was a guest house next to the lord’s residence, but as the Saint would be staying there, the two of them were shown to rooms in the lord’s residence.
While the guest room was small, it was still decorated with a statue of the seven gods. These depictions of the gods looked quite different from their actual forms, but it seemed like they weren’t too fussed about it.
Shortly afterwards, there was a knock on the door, which was then half opened, revealing Silk’s face peeking into the room.
“Cain-kun, can I come in?”
“Sure.”
Entering the room, Silk had already changed out of her travelling outfit, and was now wearing a noble’s-daughter-like dress.
“Thank you. The Saint-sama is only coming in five days, right? So I was wondering what to do until then.”
“Well, we need to go meet her near the border, which is about half a day from here. Otherwise, it seems like we’ve got a couple days to take it slow, so how about taking a stroll around the town?”
“Aww, Cain-kun. Call it a ‘date’, not a stroll.”
“– – ah, right… This town has a lot of zealous believers, so we should definitely go see the church.”
Cain wanted to meet with the gods before he met with the Saint. While he didn’t think she would be able to see through him, if the Saint suddenly said ‘Apostle’, it would turn into quite the troublesome situation, especially in this town. Not to mention his Status, which was now that of a demigod, not even being human any more. Thus, he didn’t really have any choice but to meet the gods.
“Then, we’ll let Ragnaf-sama know at dinner. That we want to go into town tomorrow.”
“Yeah, I think that should be fine.”
“Got it. Cain-kun, you haven’t gotten changed yet, so ‘till dinner.”
Saying that, Silk left the room right after.
Cain cleaned his travelling clothes with livelihood magic, then took out his noble’s clothes from his [Item Box] and changed into them. As there was still a little time left until dinner, Cain sat down on his bed and meditated, letting his magic power circulate through him.
Time flew by while he was concentrating, and as the setting sun peeked into his room through the window, a maid came to tell him that dinner was ready.
“Cain-sama, dinner is ready. Everyone is waiting for you.”
“Thank you, I’m going.”
When he arrived at the dining room the maid had guided him to, Ragnaf and Silk were already sitting there.
“I am sorry to have kept you waiting.”
He had thought he would be sitting next to Silk, but he was prompted to take a seat in a chair next to Ragnaf instead.
“Nono, Sir Cain, you are the head of a family. Until the Saint-sama arrives, you are the guest of honour here.”
Ragnaf said, laughing.
“Then, as everyone is here, a toast. We are grateful to the seven gods of Marineford! Cheer!”
““““Cheers!!!!””””
As it was their first day there, the food lined up on the table was especially luxurious. Then, a maid cut up the food and placed those portions in front of each of them.
“Sir Cain, out of all the Gods of Marineford, who do you worship the most?”
Ragnaf asked a little while after the mealtime had started.
“Me, well, none of them in particular…”
Cain had met all seven of the gods, and as such, he didn’t really feel any need to rank them. Also, he recalled the screen in the world of the gods as well.
“Is that so. That simply will not do! The Gods each have their own roles and duties. First off– –”
Ragnaf began talking about the seven gods. He continued ranting on for so long, one could only wonder when he had the time to breathe.
As Cain couldn’t eat and talk at the same time, he just occasionally chimed in, letting the conversation flow. That said, not even ten percent of what Ragnaf said found its way inside his head.
“– – and that is why each God is wonderful.”
“Indeed, I see now. To think you would believe so much in the gods.”
Ragnaf had continued talking on for around half an hour. Exhausted, the best Cain could do was answer with those few words.
They finished dinner a little while later, and Ragnaf, who still seemed to have not talked enough even after the meal, invited them to discuss further, but they refused, saying they were tired from their journey.
Returning to his room, Cain collapsed on his bed, dead-tired.
“I get that he’s a zealous believer, but man… how can he even even talk that much…”
As he was mentally completely exhausted, he summoned Haku and Gin, and diving into their soft fur, he healed a bit.
“Recently, I haven’t been able to hang out with you two… hey, did you grow again.”
Haku was now near three meters in size. Cain, who had dived onto Haku’s fluffy stomach, stroked Haku’s fur.
If possible, he would have wanted to walk around the town with Haku and Gin, but he could imagine all sorts of definitely troublesome things that would happen if he went on a walk with a Fenrir and a Divine Dragon in tow.
After having enjoyed Haku’s coat of fur as much as he could, Cain laid down in his bed and went to sleep.
The next day, after they received permission from Ragnaf, Cain and Silk went on a date in the town. Ragnaf wanted to have guards accompany them, but he was refused on the grounds that it was unnecessary. The knights who were the two’s bodyguards knew about Cain’s strength, so they couldn’t really be blamed.
The two of them walked along, gazing at the townscape. As they didn’t know what would happen if they were to walk around in noble’s clothes without any bodyguards, they wore high-quality commoner’s clothes instead.
“Look, so many delicious-looking fruits.”
Silk pointed at a stall which had all kinds of colourful fruits stacked up in front of it. As they were south of the royal capital, the climate was warmer there, and there were wine-grapes everywhere.
“They do look really delicious. Let’s buy some on our way back.”
“Yeah.”
The two of them talked back and forth, walking through the town, looking into all sorts of shops, before finally arriving at their destination, the church.
“Cain-kun, shall we go pray? I’ll come along too.”
The two of them gave a donation to the sister standing at the entrance, then walked up to the altar, got down on one knee, and put their hands together.
And, as always, a white light enveloped Cain.
