Soaring River Secret Plane. In the quiet grove atop the hill, Adam lay sprawled on the grass, his head resting on his interlocked hands as he looked up at the scarce canopy with a faint, gentle smile.
Anna sat beside him, and Valerian lay on her lap, purring in satisfaction. As she stroked the smooth fur on the cat's back, she turned to her little brother and intently studied him.
"You've changed so much," she said with a doting smile.
Adam replied with a soft sigh, "I guess I've been through a lot..."
"Do you want to talk about it?" Anna asked gently.
The raven-haired youth turned to her and asked, "What do you want to know?" "Anything." Anna displayed a warm smile.
"Well, where do I begin?" Adam sighed again as he sat back up. "After the Battle of Ravenfell, I woke up on the Coral Island, which was, in fact, the shell of an ancient turtle called Tebu..."
He recounted his days of madness on the Coral Island. Although Anna had briefly read about it in the letter, she still couldn't help but feel greatly surprised nonetheless.
"You started hearing voices?" She asked with a frown.
"Uh, yes." Adam awkwardly nodded. "Its a side-effect of an artifact I possess. Besides, after that battle ended, my soul was greatly injured, so that added to the madness, I suppose."
Although Anna was greatly curious about the artifact that could drive her little brother to insanity, she knew better than to press further. She already knew that Adam had many secrets. So, unless he shared them on his own, she wouldn't ask.
"And then, I went to Mabi..." Adam told her about the days he spent in the Land of the First Magi. He even told her about the known history of Tron, which he had managed to gather from the murals that stood the test of time in the ancient ruins on that island continent.
The conversation then shifted to the mystical lands of Yen-Lu. Anna was deeply fascinated by the culture and traditions of the lands in the east.
"The Magi there don't focus much on researching arcane mysteries, but instead on philosophy and combat?" She asked with raised brows.
Adam gave a faint shrug.
"They do study magic," he replied, "but not the way scholars do. They treat it as a path to walk, not a puzzle to solve. For them, philosophy shapes intent, and combat tempers understanding."
He glanced at her with a calm smile.
"Insight without experience is hollow, and power without reflection is dangerous," he said. "That is what they believe."
Anna was intrigued. "Very interesting."
"They're also quite xenophobic," Adam said with a laugh. "So much so, that apart from humans, no other species inhabit the continent. Well, except magical beasts, of course."
He glanced at his palms and then clenched them into fists. "After that, I journeyed to the Dark Valley..."
Anna's pupils constricted. "You what?!"
Adam said with a wry smile. "I had to get a powerful set of eyes, right? I found clues in the past that made me realize that going to the Dark Valley would be my best bet."
The crimson-haired princess deeply looked at Adam. "So those eyes..."
"Yes." Adam turned to her, his tenebrous eyes flashing with dark mysteries. "These eyes belong to the creature that resided in the heart of Dark Valley" Anna couldn't help but nervously gulp. "And what's so special about those eyes?"
Adam looked away. "I don't know. There's a lot I don't know about these eyes" And the blood flowing within me, he added silently.
"But, at the very least, my visual acuity had improved significantly." He laughed.
Anna remained silent for a long time. She believed there was a lot more that her little brother wasn't telling her.
"And what about the creature?" She asked. "Did you manage to defeat it?"
"Hah!" Adam scoffed.
"Defeat is an overstatement! That foul creature was unkillable, I tell you! It was too powerful. I believe, apart from me, there's no other being in this world that could stand up to it. In the end, my only option was to send it back where it
came from."
"Back where it came from?" Anna frowned. "Was it not of this world?"
"No..." Adam shook his head, his thoughts drifting to the abomination. "It was probably from the spirit world, I think... I don't know."
He then quickly changed the subject. "In that battle, I even lost my staff," he said
with a wry smile.
The crimson-haired princess was stunned. "You lost it?"
"Yeah, it broke." Adam nodded with a smile. "Without the Staff of Calamity, I don't think I would have been able to emerge victorious."
He heaved a long, helpless sigh. "Sometimes I can't help but wonder... was the reason I came to acquire the Staff of Calamity simply so I could defeat that
abomination?"
Anna deeply looked at Adam, wondering just how much her little brother had to go through in the past few decades. She reached out with her hand and warmly ruffled his raven-hair.
"It's all right," she said with a smile. "I'm sure you'll get your hands on a better weapon in the near future."
"I don't worry too much about it now," he said. "My hands are good enough. Besides, the body enhancement technique I practice will eventually turn my
body into the ultimate weapon."
"Anyway!" Adam turned to her and said with a beaming smile. "After I regained my eyesight, I traveled to Amberfall."
"Hmph!" Anna gently grabbed the raven-haired youth's ear, giving it a light twist. "You'd better tell me everything about it, and don't you dare leave
anything out!"
Adam chuckled. "Very well.
He told her the truth.
He told her everything, about how he had taken on the identity of the wandering Magus Nilrem, how he had helped the Fireborne Family escape the schemes of the Cult of Bones, how he had impersonated Bunosilo and guided Maximillian toward forming a mana core.
And finally, how he had saved Marlow and the others in the city from the Rank
4 undead knight.
He held nothing back.
