Adam emerged from underneath the rubble. He brushed the dust from his robes, then ran a hand over his wrist and
forearms. They tingled. The attack earlier had landed cleanly. His opponent was strong.
But when his gaze fell on the path he had carved through the city, his
expression darkened. Among broken stones and splintered debris, there was also blood and flesh.
Dozens of new light orbs had appeared in the Lotus' mysterious space, born from nothing more than him being hurled through the city.
He knew what that meant.
I have to take this fight away from here, he thought solemnly.
He expanded his senses outward, his brows furrowing quickly. He noticed the three cultists and their undead knights retreating to the edge of the city.
And one of the cultists seemed to be grievously injured.
What?
He didn't have any more time to ponder as he noticed another presence rapidly approaching him from above. He lifted his head, eyes glinting with a sharp light. And there, he saw it. A dark figure grew larger against the grey backdrop. And in the next instant, it had finally arrived right in front of him.
BAM!
The four-headed abomination clenched all of its fists and violently brought them down. However, its strike never even grazed its target. Instead, it was stopped by a shimmering blue barrier.
Its blood-red eyes blinked in curiosity as it leaned forward to get a better look at its target beyond the barrier.
Adam, too, was scrutinizing the abomination intently. His brows slowly furrowed together when he realized that it seemed to be a fusion of four Mana Core Magi. Its strength, though highly volatile, was quite high for the Mana Core Rank.
Where is the mana being stored? He wondered.
It seems to be-
His thoughts came to an abrupt halt when suddenly... Crack!
Several spiderweb-like cracks appeared on the Shield. Adam's pupils constricted, realizing just how powerful the abomination was.
He sighed and thought to himself, This is going to be a slight problem.
The muscles on the abomination's eight arms bulged and throbbed, and with a violent shove, it broke through the barrier, its fists smashing the ground where Adam had just been a few seconds ago.
A large crater was formed from the force of the impact, and several buildings - and people in the vicinity were destroyed from the mere shockwaves.
The abomination's blood-red eyes blinked in confusion as it stared at the empty ground in front of it. It wondered where its target had gone. "You're being a nuisance."
Adam's cold voice echoed from behind.
The abomination's eyes flashed with... excitement as it finally heard his voice. It vaguely remembered that, in the nascent days following its creation, it had fought several humans, beasts, and even dead things. However, none could stand against its might. And so, it had been locked away in the dark depths of the prison complex, alone and bored.
Until now.
Until the Dark King appeared.
The abomination quickly turned around, its four coppery heads splitting into wide grins. But the next moment, those grins froze when it saw the raven-haired youth point two fingers at it, then swipe his hand upward in a diagonal motion.
Rank 4 Spell: Blade of Emanation.
The abomination could not see the attack, but it felt it. It was faint, almost imperceptible. But by the time it understood what had happened, it was already too late.
It felt the world tilt in its vision, as if everything had shifted to one side.
Only a moment later did it realize the truth. It wasn't the world. It was itself. Its torso had been severed cleanly in half, cut along a precise diagonal line. Its upper body slowly began to slide, separating as it fell toward the ground.
For a brief moment, panic flashed through its mind. It felt fear for the first time. And when it looked into the stygian eyes of its opponent, it knew that it was facing the real deal.
But only a second later, its upper body stopped sliding. It was held in place by the countless dark sinews that had shot out from its flesh. Slowly, but surely, its body was regenerating, and before long... it stood proud and upright once
more.
The abomination's fear and panic was quickly replaced by excitement. It was eager to fight the little human and test the true extent of its power!
But right then, a cold voice echoed once again. This time from nearby. Very
near.
"You're much more hardy than the knights from earlier,"
Adam's eyes flickered with a cold gleam as he pressed his palm against the abomination's stomach.
And then...
He cut the monster into over a dozen pieces!
Cold blood splattered on the ground, and the grins on the monster's face froze
once again.
Adam snorted, then turned around and prepared to finish off the other cultists. He had only taken a couple of steps when his eyes slightly widened.
He heard the sound of flesh squirming.
From the severed edges, black sinews stretched outward again. They latched onto the torn flesh and pulled it back together, tightening, binding, stitching
the halves as if guided by an unseen force.
And in seconds... the abomination was whole again.
It would be an understatement to say that Adam was surprised. If his first attack was meant to test the strength of the enemy, then his subsequent attack was meant to obliterate it.
The last spell had consisted of over a dozen wide wind blades and countless
smaller ones. In theory, it should have turned the abomination into mist and
paste. Yet, it was still standing.
He turned around, a faint foreboding blooming in his heart.
The abomination was already upon him, its fight hands raised and ready to strike him down.
Adam coated his hands with mana and released a barrage of punches himself.
Eight fists against two.
Yet, somehow, he still managed to meet and connect with every one of them!
A few moments later, he finally found a gap and took a step forward. Mana
surged from his core and gathered at his fist.
Hand of Doom: One Hit!
Adam didn't even wait to see the result of his attack, for he already knew the
outcome.
Instead, he turned and flew toward the city center.
He had to bring the barrier down first, or it would take him far longer to deal
with the four-headed abomination.
And the longer it dragged on, the more innocent lives would be lost!
