Chapter 1682 Crimson Depths

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Adam flew over the streets and buildings of Jomuran.

His dark eyes flashed with urgency as his surroundings passed by in a quick blur. The giant stone pillar in the distance grew bigger with each passing moment.

The four-headed abomination was an unexpected variable. He had expected variables in his battle plan, of course. But not one like this.

This abomination was unlike anything he had faced before. He was certain that he would be able to destroy the regular undead knights within two moves. But the four-headed creature... he was not so sure.

Suddenly, he heard a muffled explosion echo from behind him. He sneered. He knew the abomination had already recovered and was already hot on his heels.

Adam poured even more mana into the Flight spell and increased his speed. He gathered a tyrannical amount of mana into his fists, intending to destroy the pillar artifact in one swift attack.

But suddenly his eyes narrowed when he saw four undead knights flying toward him from ahead. Each of them wielded a weapon and was rapidly approaching him.

"Tsk."

Adam clicked his tongue in annoyance and cast a barrage of Magic Missiles.

A dozen orbs of mana flew forward, aiming to intercept the undead knights. Some of them missed, while most found their targets. Yet that didn't stop the knights. The holes in their bodies rapidly regenerated as they closed the distance.

Adam's eyes narrowed, a holy white light gleaming in their stygian depths. And then, he disappeared.

For a brief moment, the undead knights were puzzled as they couldn't locate their enemy. They couldn't even sense his presence.

Suddenly, the wind whipped up around them. Soon, razor-sharp lines appeared across their armor, weapons, and flesh. As their bodies were severed by the cuts, the heat in the air intensified. And then, a giant pillar of flame surrounded the four knights.

Their cold bodies were sliced apart, and the diced-up fragments were consumed in an inferno, burned to ash in less than three seconds.

That was all.

Two back-to-back Rank 4 Spells, and the undead knights had perished.

Adam's figure flickered into existence as he canceled the illusion spell. Behind him, the ashes of the knights drifted in the air, thier existence cut apart and burned away.

The pillar artifact was close.

A few more seconds, and he would have reached it and destroyed it.

But the four-headed abomination was already upon him. The few seconds Adam had spent dealing with the undead knights were enough for it to catch up to him.

The creature's eight hands had, at some point, transformed into bone-white, razor-sharp claws. They turned into a blur, almost slipping out of reality itself, as they came down on the Dark King.

This time, Adam was truly stunned at the sheer speed of the creature. The attack speed was so fast that he didn't even have time to weave hand seals for a defensive spell.

He blocked the attacks that he could, grabbing the creature by the wrists. Then he evaded two attacks by twisting his body at a strange, unnatural angle.

But alas, there was only so much he could do with a limited number of limbs... Four of the abomination's claw strikes got through, carving deep, bloody gashes across his chest and torso. If it were anyone else, their bodies would be reduced to meat strips.

Hot blood sprayed from the Dark King's body, splattering across the abomination's faces. Four black tongues slipped out through its lips and licked the blood with clear delight.

But only a moment later, the grotesque creature froze, as if... it had tasted poison! The four heads recoiled and quickly spat whatever blood they had just tried to consume.

Witnessing this, Adam couldn't help but frown. The injuries to his body didn't concern him all that much. His physique was sturdy enough for the wounds not to hinder him in the battle. It was the creature's strange reaction to tasting his blood that caught him by surprise.

He harrumphed and seized the opening. Veins bulged in his forearms as he clenched his teeth, pouring strength into his grip.

Then, with a sickening tear that echoed through the air, followed by the abomination's cries of pain and despair, the Dark King ripped two of its arms

and flung them aside.

Adam then quickly weaved hand seals and...

Rank 4 Spell: Great Wind Repellance!

The abomination was hurled back by the powerful winds, flying into the

distance helplessly.

For a brief moment, Adam wondered about the strange reaction of the abomination upon tasting his blood. One had to know that the creature was a product of rot and undeath, something that should have been immune to even the harshest of toxins. Yet, it had clearly been affected by simply tasting his

blood.

The more Adam thought about the blood coursing through his veins, the more mysteries he found in its crimson depths. He shook his head and turned his attention back to the target.

This was his chance to destroy the stone pillar.

He picked up speed and soared toward the giant monument powering the defensive barrier around the city.

But at the last possible moment, yet another obstacle arose.

Vortigan hovered in the air in front of him, having just finished the physical components of his spell. He roared and thrust his hands forward. Dozens of bolts of green necrotic energy burst forth from his hands and closed in on

Adam.

Edsel and Elira had been momentarily incapacitated. After all, the Dark King had just exterminated their undead knights, and that resulted in them receiving a strong backlash.

So it fell upon him to stop the Dark King from reaching his goal. He somewhat understood why the Dark King was trying to get rid of the barrier, and couldn't allow him to succeed.

The raven-haired youth evaded the first few necrotic bolts, then blocked a few more. But the sheer volume of Vortigan's spell was too great, and the last few bolts ended up piercing through his body, quickly weakening him.

For a brief moment, relief and triumph washed over Vortigan's heart, but soon, his expression froze. His eyes flashed with terror when he saw the Dark King's figure dissipate into gray smoke.

"An illusion..." he murmured, his heart sinking.

But the surprise attack he expected never arrived.

Elsewhere in the city below.

Edsel and Elira were recuperating inside a relatively intact building. Their faces

were pale, and their breathing was heavy.

Not only had they survived the initial onslaught of the Dark King, but they also endured the mental backlash from having their undead knights killed.

Edsel's situation was even worse as the grotesque creature had brutally assaulted him earlier.

"We should have..." Elira spoke in between shaky breaths, "just... escaped."

Edsel's eyes flashed with rage, and he was just about to reply, when suddenly-

Boom!

The wall shattered as a figure violently broke through. The figure landed right before the two injured cultists. The pair's eyes widened in disbelief when they realized who it was.

With a cold look in his eyes, the Dark King raised his hand and swiped

horizontally.

Splat!

Not een a second had passed since Esel and Elira's heads had been cleanly

severed from their shoulders when another explosion echoed through the

building.

The four-headed abomination had caught up again!
