The Ice Mirror Labyrinth that I had chosen, thinking it would be an attraction like a mirror maze, was more or less what I had expected, though it seemed to have had horror elements added to it.

It didnt seem like the kind of attraction where we simply made our way through the maze and called it a day, so for now, I decided to listen to the explanation.

The mirror monster captures its prey and drags them into the mirror. Once that happens, there is no means of escape, but while the mirror monster possesses tremendous power inside mirrors, it cannot wield much power outside of them. Therefore, it cannot drag its prey into a mirror unless it touches its prey three times.

This was probably an explanation of the number of lives we had. In other words, if we failed to deal with some action from the mirror monster three times, it would be game over.

Conversely, that meant it was okay to fail twice Once again, it seemed like the objective wasnt simply to run away, but to actually do something.

The mirror monster approaches from within the mirrors. At times it will conceal its form, and at times it will change its appearance Find the abnormalities within the mirrors. And once you find the mirror monster, point the Holy Lantern toward the mirror in which the mirror monster is hiding and press the Holy Stone on the handle. Doing so will cause holy light to be emitted from the lantern, driving away the mirror monster. But be careful Once the Holy Lanterns light is used, it cannot be used again for 20 seconds. Be certain to point it toward the mirror in which the monster is hiding. We wish you the best of luck.

I see, so the lantern placed beside that door was the equipment we were supposed to use to clear the attraction I could more or less picture how it worked. It was probably structured like a mirror maze, with mirrors in every direction. As we proceeded, some kind of abnormality, some behavior that would be impossible for an ordinary mirror, would occur somewhere among them, and we would have to identify it and drive it away with the lantern as we continued onward.

There was a 20-second interval so that we couldnt just shine the light at mirrors indiscriminately In that case, was it possible that later on there would be things like feints?

For example, perhaps the monster would immediately move from the mirror where we first noticed something strange to another mirror, and we would ultimately have to shine the light on the mirror it had moved to. Something like that seemed possible.

[D- Do you think this is the kind where something scary suddenly appears in the mirrors?]

[I feel like it would be more like theres something there meant to startle us.]

[Uuuuugh, I- Ill tell you this because youre Kaito-senpai, but I- Im actually pretty bad with scary things]

She said it as though she were confessing some hidden secret, but I already knew, or rather, had realized that Hina-chan wasnt good with scary things.

That said, in Hina-chans case, it wasnt that she absolutely hated scary things and didnt even want them in her field of vision. I think she was the type who was bad with scary things, but if there happened to be a haunted house, shed still go inside at least once anyway.

[Im not particularly good with them either, but its fortunate that there are two of us instead of just one.]

[T- Thats true. If I were alone, I might have given up I wonder if were even allowed to give up?]

[I wonder? Im pretty sure we can if we really want to, but Oh?]

There were probably people who were genuinely terrible with scary things, so I figured it should be possible to give up. As I approached the lantern, however I noticed something resembling a notice posted on the door.

Caution: Horror elements are present beyond this point. Those with weak hearts or who are extremely uncomfortable with horror may place the lantern on the table in the center to exit the attraction. Additionally, if you wish to retire while challenging the attraction, turn the handle on the bottom of the lantern clockwise twice. The lanterns light will go out, and you will be returned to the reception desk.

Ahh, so there really is a means of escape, or rather, a way to retire partway through. I think shell be fine, but if Hina-chan seems to be reaching her limit, well consider retiring. Im neither particularly good nor particularly bad with horror, so I dont think Ill have a problem.

[Looks like we can leave partway through, so if it gets too scary to handle, well just retire.]

[O- Okay. Ill do my best for as long as I can Ah, K- Kaito-senpai c- can I hold your hand?]

[Sure. Then lets hold hands and go together.]

[Yes!]

For now, I decided to carry the lantern myself, and held out my free hand toward the frightened Hina-chan and took her hand. From the feeling of her hand in mine, I could tell that she was pretty tense, or rather, trembling with fear.

Im still fine with the scary stuff, but if they try to startle us with something like a sudden loud noise, even I might jump If possible, I dont want to show my cute kouhai such an embarrassing side of myself, but who knows how itll turn out

[Okay, lets go.]

[Y- Yes.]

When we opened the door and stepped outside the room it was indeed a maze made of mirrors, but since it was a horror attraction, it was rather dim.

That said, it wasnt so dark that we couldnt see our surroundings. If I had to compare it to something, it was about as dark as being in the shade during the daytime, so there was absolutely no problem seeing the path and such.

[Eek!? K- K- K- Kaito-senpai! T- The mirror in front]

[Hm? Ah, I see, so this is how it works]

Responding to Hina-chans frightened voice, I looked ahead and saw something resembling a purple haze behind the reflections of me and Hina-chan in the mirror directly in front of us.

Thinking about it from a meta perspective, this was probably something like a tutorial. The proof was that it was so blatantly obvious.

For now, I raised the lantern toward the mirror in front of us and pressed the stone on the handle the switch. The lantern shone brilliantly, and the purple haze vanished with an eerie scream.

[D- Did you beat it?]

[They said it would drive it away, so I dont think we actually defeated it. Itll probably show up again further ahead, so well have to keep an eye on the mirrors around us.]

[Uuuuugh, p- please make it only mildly scary.]

I smiled reassuringly at Hina-chan as she squeezed my hand tightly and pressed herself against me, apparently out of fear, then took a step toward the mirror maze.
