Chapter 1117: War Aftermath.

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The battle the human mages had begun with such high confidence now seemed to have drained them completely, because at this point, they were all desperately wishing for it to end.

They were exhausted, though the high ranks had burst out with explosive energy at the start and managed to kill seven goblins, after that the high-rank goblins seemed to have changed their battling approach.

Instead of fighting head-on, they began dragging the battle out for as long as possible, all because it looked like the other tiers of their army would soon overwhelm the humans and win both the mid- and low-rank battlefields.

At the beginning, the mid-rank battlefield had also been stable, as Zack’s overwhelming power, combined with Mabel’s tactical genius, had given them the edge despite the huge numerical disadvantage the Mid rank Goblin had over them.

But now even Mabel was no longer staying in the back, she had moved to the front line alongside Zack, constantly casting layers of water barrier spells to protect the human mages nearby.

Other times, she used the Water Engulf spell, though it clearly wasn’t as effective as a healing spell, however; it still helped clean wounds, and the water essence eased some of the pain the injured mages still fighting were feeling, that way they weren’t making as much mistake leading to death as before.

However; it was because they had started losing numbers that she had stepped forward to lend her strength directly. Zack and his special Gordons squads were already covered in both the blood of their enemies and their own.

Though they had lost some of their members, they still gritted their teeth and continued fighting, because this was not yet the time for mourning their loss.

The low-rank battlefield was even worse, the human mages were barely holding on, while the low-rank green-skinned creatures, carrying their wooden clubs or short swords, attacked with such ferocity that no one would ever have linked them to being a cowardly race.

Just when everything looked that grim, and the battlefield resembled a slow-moving meat grinder, a green light shot through the air in a thin straight line.

It landed directly in the head of one of the Tier 7 goblins clad in battle armor, that goblin had been just about to bring down his weapon on one of the human mages fighting in the air.

After the green light reached his head, it vanished as if it had never been there, leaving many who noticed it confused, but not too far behind it, another light followed.

This one was wrapped in a faint layer of fire, it traveled along the same thin path the green light had taken and arrived at the exact same spot, then a loud gunshot rang out the next instant.

Then they saw it.

The goblin’s head exploded into smithereens, the entire battlefield seemed to freeze for a moment, as everyone turned toward the direction the attack had come from.

That was when the human mages saw the gates slowly opening, at the front stood Alec, Brandon, Arthur, Knight, and Agnes side by side, with a massive golem army behind them.

The one who had fired the shot was Legion, he floated in the air with the barrel of his sniper weapon still emitting smoke, but all he did was pull the bolt at the lower side of the weapon and take aim again.

At that moment, realization finally dawned on the human mages fighting in the low- and mid-rank battlefields.

Reinforcements had arrived.

Even those on the high-rank battlefield stiffened as they saw the goblins suddenly rush forward, trying to close the distance and force close combat, the main reason Legion had been able to take out that goblin so easily without any issues or having to shoot more than once was because of the space the goblins had been giving the human mages.

Even while trying to hack off a human mage’s arm, the victim goblin had still been fearful enough to keep their distance, so it had not been difficult for Legion to aim and hit his mark, since the target had barely moved and had remained in one spot.

But now that they had seen Legion take aim again, they immediately rushed toward the high-rank human mages.

That way, they were certain the golem would not fire carelessly, unless it was willing to kill the human mages they were locked in battle with as well.

“Attack,” Alec said as he pointed his hand forward, and the next thing that happened was his different main golems surging ahead, screaming, “Kill them all,” while their captain-rank golems followed behind them as the massacre of the goblins began.

Titan rose into the skies to deal with a couple of Tier 7 goblins, followed by Butcher, who created a whirlwind in the air to drag one closer before finishing the goblin off.

With the main golems joining the fray, it took less than five minutes before all of the high-rank goblins were completely wiped out, the speed at which they were killed made it almost look like the golems still hadn’t had enough fun, here they weren’t restricted to not killing and they weren’t facing genius students so they went all out.

The moment the last Tier 7 goblin died, one of the goblins in the mid-rank army shouted, “Retreat!” and that was when all hell broke loose. The goblins, who were already reverting to their cowardly nature, didn’t even bother to confirm whether the order had come from a commanding officer or not.

They simply turned and rushed back toward the space-eye portal that was still open, it was the perfect definition of every goblin for himself, as some even threw away their weapons in their desperate bid to escape faster.

It really wasn’t funny at all, but then again, Alec had been able to help Estonia City deal with their Blood Moon problem before the Blood Moon even ended.

The human mages cheered for a while after they had managed to chase the goblins back into the space portal, but that joy faded the moment they turned around and saw the bodies of the comrades who had died in battle fighting alongside them.

“No matter how many times I see it, it will always be a sad sight to me,” the Gordons Patriarch said after Alec walked up to him.

“Yeah, you always used to tell me that war is the price we have to pay for the covetous eyes of the abyss races on our realm, and even though we know there will always be death in war, it still doesn’t lessen the pain that comes with seeing your comrades die. No matter how prepared one is, it is always a sad feeling,” Alec said as he watched the human mages separate the corpses.

They placed the human bodies on one side so that those who knew them could take their remains back to their families and give them a proper burial, once the sorting of the bodies was done, they planned to burn the goblin corpses later.

Because in their belief, it was never a good omen to leave that many dead bodies lying outside one’s home.
