At the moment that Lu Yin’s true appearance returned, the violet sight power dispersed. With that, Chang Ling (长灵) and the other two collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Lu Yin looked at the three, his expression heavy, before suddenly turning around. At some point in time, an old man had appeared behind him. Ancient and weathered, the man looked as if he had emerged from the distant past. There seemed to still be traces of time lingering on him. He studied Lu Yin with a faint smile.
Lu Yin looked at the old man and slowly saluted. “This junior is Lu Yin of the human civilization. Greetings, Senior.”
The old man nodded, seemingly impressed. “This old man is Chang Chuan. I’m very pleased to meet you, Lu Yin.”
Lu Yin straightened up and observed the old man. “Senior, are you the Longevity Civilization’s most ancient powerhouse?”
Chang Chuan smiled. “Yes. Though if you want to call me the oldest, the truth is that I already have one foot in the grave.”
“An Immortal should be undying.”
“That’s merely theoretically speaking. A so-called Immortal simply hasn’t found a way to die normally. For example, you, Lu Yin. Can you find a way for yourself to die normally, if you exclude time as a factor?”
Lu Yin thought about it but found that he truly could not. Falling ill? That simply would not happen. For ordinary creatures, aside from being killed due to the law of survival of the fittest, illness was the most common way to die, if old age was excluded.
But Lu Yin could not get sick. If he one day broke through to the Immortal realm, he would then be able to ignore time as well and not die of old age. At that point, the only way for him to die would be in battle, killed by another.
For a powerhouse like the old man before him, there should not be many creatures capable of killing him in a fight. It was much like Ancestor Shan; even at the peak of the Blacklight Civilization, they had not been strong enough to take even a single slap from that toad.
Even if the old man could not match Ancestor Shan’s strength, he could not be far behind. It was also a question of whether or not the man actually was weaker or not.
Even if some mighty being could kill him, they most likely would not do so; the cost would be too steep.
Lu Yin said, “If we exclude time as a factor, why would you say that you have one foot in the grave?”
Chang Chuan sighed. “A feeling.”
Lu Yin was surprised. “A feeling?”
Chang Chuan met Lu Yin’s gaze and smiled. “If I told you that I don’t know myself, but that I simply feel death drawing near, would you believe me?”
Lu Yin was not sure how to answer.
“Civilizations cannot communicate with each other, while fishing civilizations continuously destroy all civilizations they encounter. Is there an explanation for these things?”
“There should be,” Lu Yin said. Ancestor Shan had once shared their conclusions.
Chang Chuan shook his head. “But no one can prove that explanation. This old man’s existence has caused countless others to believe that Immortals are truly eternal, simply because I have lived for far, far too long. But there is no truly immortal creature in the cosmos, just as how there is no truly eternal civilization. Lu Yin, all civilizations’ ultimate fate is extinction.”
A tremor ran through Lu Yin’s body. This was the same thing that Ancestor Shan had once said.
It seemed that all who had lived long enough became convinced of the same conclusions.
He bowed low to Chang Chuan. “If that’s true, then what should be done?”
Chang Chuan stared off into the distance. “Only a legacy can approach being truly eternal. Perhaps a civilization’s history will be severed, or perhaps the past will be forgotten. But as long as a species continues on, that is enough.”
Lu Yin said nothing. He could not help but feel that there was something more behind Chang Chuan’s words.
The old man looked back at Lu Yin and smiled faintly. “The scenes that you just saw are deductions of how to use your Heaven’s Sight. Some may suit you. Do you remember them?”
Lu Yin was startled. “Those were deduced methods?”
“What else could they be?”
Lu Yin stared at Chang Chuan’s smile. The man appeared kindly, like an elder looking at a junior, yet Lu Yin could not shake the feeling that something more lay behind the smile.
He might be young, but he had experienced far too much. When it came to scheming and intrigue, he was in no way inferior to Wei Rong and the others.
Even so, he simply could not guess Chang Chuan’s intentions with nothing to go from.
“May I ask, Senior, what is the eye that I saw?” Lu Yin asked.
“That is the Longevity Vine.”
Lu Yin was dumbfounded. “Isn’t the Longevity Vine a plant?”
Chang Chuan smiled. “That’s exactly why we’ve been able to preserve it for so long. The outside world believes that the Longevity Vine is a plant. In the past, powerful civilizations have tried to seize it by force, but they only took fakes.”
“But Senior Chang Tian gave Senior Awe Gate a small piece of the Longevity Vine, right?”
“The vine and the eye support each other. A severed segment of the vine can regrow, but if the eye is lost, there will never be another Longevity Vine. What you see as the Longevity Vine is simply a part of it.”
Lu Yin partially understood, but he did not ask any further questions. This was a secret of the Longevity Civilization, and the old man was already being quite generous by sharing as much as he had.
“You should understand that the reason I’m telling you this is compensation,” Chang Chuan stated, not avoiding the matter. “Our civilization never intended for you to obtain Divine Sight, but we didn’t anticipate that you would possess a broken battle technique that Divine Sight could repair. Your Heaven’s Sight complements Divine Sight quite well. Could you leave the cultivation method for the technique behind? Consider it a compensation for absorbing sight power.
“This sight power is the result of multiple generations of cultivators of our Divine Sight. After dying, their sight power is scattered into the Sight Realm, and it saves a great deal of time for later generations when cultivating Divine Sight. It has also helped your Heaven’s Sight.
“If this old man had not intervened, you would have never been allowed into the Sight Realm. I even helped you deduce methods for using Heaven’s Sight.”
Lu Yin felt helpless. “This junior never cultivated Heaven’s Sight. I received it from a senior named Wu Tian, and this junior also doesn’t know how to cultivate it.”
Chang Chuan stared at him, saying nothing.
Lu Yin was being completely candid. He truly didn’t know how to cultivate Heaven’s Sight.
After watching for a while, Chang Chuan sighed. “Then forget it.”
Lu Yin tested the waters. “May this junior continue absorbing sight power?”
Chang Chuan chuckled. “If you absorb it, what will my people do? Do you know how much sight power you just absorbed? By our standards, it’s enough to push Divine Sight to the second level.”
“The second level?” Lu Yin was puzzled.
It was clear that Chang Chuan did not want to elaborate. “After all my people are done absorbing sight power, you should leave. Don’t come back.”
Lu Yin called out, “This junior can bring Senior Wu Tian here! He can teach your Longevity Civilization Heaven’s Sight!”
“There’s no need. Don’t come back.” Chang Chuan’s voice gradually faded away.
Lu Yin looked at the empty land, deliberately remembering every sentence he had exchanged with Chang Chuan. He felt that the old man’s words were hiding tremendous information, yet he simply could not sort it out for the time being.
Heaven’s Sight opened on his brow, swelling with a surging, aching sensation. It felt as if it wanted to release something, yet Lu Yin did not know what.
When he had first obtained Heaven’s Sight, it had not possessed any real attack method.
Right, the second level.
He looked at the three unconscious people and waved a hand. Young War King was tossed back, leaving only Chang Ling (长灵) and Chang Ling (长铃).
The two women awoke, rubbing their heads as they slowly rose. The first thing that they saw was Lu Yin staring at them. Neither woman was surprised, and they simply met his gaze.
“Chang Ling (长灵) and Chang Ling (长铃)—your names are so similar, while your lives were the complete opposite of each other. Even so, you were able to gain the opposite extreme through each other, enriching your will and mental states. You’re very lucky,” Lu Yin said with a smile.
Chang Ling stared at Lu Yin. “You are a being from a foreign civilization.”
Lu Yin nodded.
“Senior Chang Tu let you in?”
Lu Yin pointed upward. “Someone higher.”
The two women’s expressions changed. They understood.
It was no wonder why this foreigner had been able to enter the Sight Realm. Without the approval of their legendary ancestor, how else could it have happened?
Chang Ling (长灵) and Chang Ling (长铃) both slowly bowed to Lu Yin. “May we ask if you have any instructions for us, Senior?”
Since their legendary ancestor had allowed this foreigner in, there had to be a reason. There was no need for them to ask anything more.
Lu Yin looked at them. “What is the Longevity Vine?”
The two women were puzzled by the question. “What do you mean, Senior?”
Lu Yin asked again, “The Longevity Vine, what is it?”
“The Longevity Vine is the Longevity Vine. What else could it be?” Chang Ling was confused.
It appeared that neither woman knew about the eye.
“How many levels are there to Divine Sight?”
“Three.”
“Four.”
Two different answers: one from Chang Ling (长灵), the other from Chang Ling (长铃).
Lu Yin arched a brow. “Which is it?”
Chang Ling (长铃) looked at Chang Ling (长灵). “Do you really believe that there’s a fourth level?”
Chang Ling (长灵) nodded. “I believe the legends.”
Chang Ling (长铃) shook her head. “That’s nothing more than a fabrication of a storyteller.”
“A fabricated tale wouldn’t have been passed down to our era. Even the ancient histories have mentioned it.”
“But our civilization has existed for so long without any proof of anyone reaching a fourth level.”
“And yet I firmly believe the fourth level exists.”
Lu Yin cut in, “Please explain. I’m not very clear on this.”
The two women warily eyed Lu Yin. “If Ancestor allowed you to enter the Sight Realm, why don’t you know about the levels of Divine Sight?”
Lu Yin shrugged. “I’m not cultivating Divine Sight. It’s pure luck that I’m able to absorb sight power. That senior told me to figure things out for myself, mentioning that Divine Sight’s levels are different from what I cultivate, but I’m lazy and don’t want to.”
The two exchanged a glance. Chang Ling (长铃) stated, “Please forgive us, but we cannot tell you.”
Lu Yin looked at Chang Ling (长灵), who agreed. “We cannot tell you.”
Lu Yin shook his head. He could only ask someone else. Only three people in the Sight Realm had seen his true appearance, and none of them were likely to speak about it.
It also seemed like the levels to Divine Sight were common knowledge.
In the end, Lu Yin was someone from an entirely different civilization.
With that in mind, he turned to leave. Before going, he looked back at the two women. “If Senior Chang Tu wanted to accept you as his disciples, would you agree?”
The two women were stunned, and they stared at Lu Yin in a daze.
He met their stares with his own. “Answer me.”
Chang Ling (长灵)’s voice dropped low. “No.”
Chang Ling (长铃) also shook her head. “No.”
Lu Yin left without asking why. Senior Awe Gate, you won.
Once Lu Yin was gone, the two women let out a breath.
“This is bad! He’ll definitely go ask someone else!” Chang Ling (长灵) cried out.
Chang Ling (长铃) replied, “That has nothing to do with us. It isn’t even a secret. It’s simply not something that we can speak of.”
Elsewhere, Lu Yin found someone who was currently running directly away from where he had been.
“Farther away, farther away! I don’t want to go through that again! Ancestor, how can even absorbing sight power put me in another accident? You didn’t say anything!” Chang Shi muttered bitterly as he continued running into the distance.
Not long ago, he had still been absorbing sight power without any issues, only for it to inexplicably start drifting in another direction. He had immediately sensed that something had gone wrong.
Others had grown curious and had all moved towards the disturbance, but Chang Shi had headed in the opposite direction, to get as far away as possible.
He absolutely did not want to relive the events of the vine-climbing contest. He could not endure that a second time.
No matter what happened—even if some treasure had emerged—he simply did not care. He wanted to stay far away.
While casually moving about, Lu Yin happened to spot Chang Shi.
He then spoke without revealing himself, his voice reaching a hundred-meter radius around Chang Shi, shaking the earth like thunder. “Kid, why are you running?”
