Vanessa Thorne was in another direction, standing opposite the Third Regent, who seemed to look down upon her with nothing but contempt because of her gender. The man simply mocked and looked down on women in general, as they held no place in his eyes.To the Third Regent, women should be slaves; they should be chained and should be nothing more than sex slaves for men in general. How he came to possess such a twisted mindset, no one knew, but the man knew when to keep it in check and when to show it.
After all, despite his opinion on women, his Grand Regent was a woman who could kill him with a slap should she so wish, and not only that, his Empire’s former ruler was a woman who was also at the Radiant Crownstar Life Rank, who could likewise end his pitiful existence with a backhand slap.
So, in a way, he could be called a hypocrite who hid his disgust toward powerful women perfectly and only showed his disdain and disgust toward women he believed he was stronger than and could suppress.
Vanessa Thorne, who was floating in the air, could literally feel the disgust coming from the man. She didn’t need to read his thoughts to understand what was going through his mind. As a woman who was almost three centuries old, she had met her fair share of men, and it was only natural that she had encountered men like the Third Regent.
She didn’t react negatively, nor did she insult him for looking down on women, as she wasn’t some women’s rights activist. Centuries ago, it had gotten to her when it first started, but now, it was simply a normal routine.
But regardless, this was the first time she was seeing such an attitude from a Black man, which was quite a unique experience in a way.
"I have to say, it’s been about sixty years since I last met your kind."
Vanessa spoke as she had no issue speaking on the matter. She simply wore a smile as it amused her, and that was all.
"But I have to say, if you hate women and we disgust you that much, shouldn’t you have staged a coup against your Empire? After all, it was ruled by a woman. Although I suppose that has been solved."
She continued calmly, not caring if the Third Regent responded or not.
"But your Grand Regent is a woman like me, no? So why don’t you stop being a coward and confront her to bow to you? Or is bullying women weaker than you how you get off?"
She asked calmly, calling him out on his hypocrisy.
The Third Regent wore a frown on his face as he floated a meter above Vanessa, establishing that he stood higher than women in any situation.
He spat to the side as he spoke in a condescending tone.
"I don’t speak to people like you. You should either be in the kitchen, or chained to a bed or bedside."
Vanessa gave a smirk at the Third Regent’s words as she had no problem exchanging words with the man. She was talkative by nature.
"But you just spoke to me, though, no?" she asked.
"Besides, if you feel I should be chained to a bed, I would happily be chained to one if you defeat me. I think there was a saying about leading by example."
She added with an amusing tone, as her red eyes met the Third Regent’s black ones.
She was sure that the Third Regent had already chained some women of his own kind to his bed for him to speak about it. And as for her words about him defeating her, she had no intention of being defeated by the likes of this fool before her.
Simply because she had grown to tolerate their existence didn’t mean she wouldn’t kill any who crossed her path. And unfortunately, today, the Third Regent had crossed her path.
The Third Regent snorted at Vanessa’s words; he no longer wasted words with this lowly woman. His Astra Energy erupted from his body, drenching the sky and the entire atmosphere as he tapped into his ability in one go. He didn’t waste time testing the waters or engaging in close-quarter combat.
As his Astra Energy came alive, some of the tattoos on his body shone with bright black light. Then, the next moment, the tattoos seemed to stretch out from his body as they took various shapes of Monsters, Emovirae, and Humans, their numbers increasing as he summoned tens of each.
They were all black, like shadows, yet possessed some features of what they had been when they were alive.
The Humans possessed the power of Radiant Voidstar Life Rank at minimum, with some at the Pulse and Dust Soulstar Life Rank. The Emovirae stood at Rank 8. The Monsters possessed Myth-Class combat power.
This was the Third Regent’s innate ability, called Death Tattoo.
The ability was simple. As long as any entity was dead, he could draw a tattoo of the dead entity onto his body through the blood of the dead while infusing it with Astra Energy. It didn’t matter whether he killed it or not; as long as it was dead, he had the blood, and he had enough Astra Energy to engrave its power onto his body as a tattoo, then he could summon it later on.
The summons didn’t need Astra Energy to remain alive, but only to be summoned into the real world. Each summon possessed the power they had at the time of their death.
The best part was that since the summons were basically dead, they couldn’t be ’killed.’ If his opponent killed any of them, they would simply return to their tattoo state and could be summoned again after twenty-four hours.
The Third Regent didn’t waste time. The moment his minions were summoned, he sent them forward, each of them shooting towards Vanessa like ants toward sugar.
Vanessa smirked as she removed her thorn whip from her waist and flung it forward with indifferent ease. It elongated and streaked forward with blistering speed. It touched a Rank 8 Emovira first; the Emovira froze as, the next moment, thorns tore outwards from its body, killing it on the spot as it turned into dissipating smoke.
Before the rest could close the distance, from the thorn whip, vines covered in thorns stretched out, shooting outwards, each one wrapping around the summons, halting and sealing them in place.
Each of them struggled endlessly as they made various noises and sounds. They tried to use their abilities, but it was useless, as Vanessa’s thorn vines possessed the ability to seal Astra Energy and abilities once they were bound around their targets.
With a flick of her wrist, the thorn vines constricted, squashing each summon into fading smoke. Although these summons possessed the strength they had at the time of their lives, at the end of the day, Vanessa was a Radiant Soulstar Life Ranker. Trying to wear her out or accomplish anything of the sort with people as weak as these was simply wishful thinking.
"Not even going to engage me directly, huh?"
Vanessa spoke after she wiped out the summons without moving from her spot.
"Regardless, if this is the best you can do, then I am disappointed."
She stated in finality as her thorn whip returned to her side.
